Should private companies control birth control?

Jen Craig said,

"The problem is not that employees are expecting their employer to pay for anything...by what they are expecting is not to be discriminated against. The health insurance being provided is compensation for the work being done as part of the pay package. It's like hobby lobby being allowed to tell their employees what they can amd cannot spend their income on. And for the record, the birth control hobby lobby is contesting DOES NOT CAUSE ABORTION! I don't care what their religious beliefs say...you cannot argue with medical and scientific proof!" - 17 hours, 4 minutes ago

Should private companies control birth control?

Dustin Green said,

"The issue here is that Hobby Lobby "lobbied" that it was a "person" and had constitutional rights. Ummmm last time I looked corporations ARE NOT people. They do not have the same rights afforded to me and you. This is crazy. They claim to be SO religious but yet Hobby Lobby constantly gets tax breaks from the same government they are against. There a bunch of hypocrites. They have no right to tell anyone man or women that they will not cover certain things. It is not up to them. PERIOD! We need to keep religion out of the public square period. Look at what has happened through out history when religion was in the public square. Muslims/Christians/Jews murdered millions of innocent people in there crusades and wars. Even to this day. Hobby Lobby has no religious rights when they are getting tax payer funded & government funded tax breaks. " - 17 hours, 57 minutes ago

Should private companies control birth control?

Kristen Huselton said,

"If one of these companies would go so far as to fight other items of concern that goes against their religious beliefs, such as, let's say covering prescription medication that treats ED because it goes against the will of God (if this is how it is, it must be how the Lord intends it to be, etc), well they would most likely be shot down and told they're silly. Of course the hypothetical situation doesn't have to cover reproductive rights, it could stretch to other areas regarding employees rights, but it's always a fight about women's reproductive issues. Why? It's as medically relevant as other health concerns, so why is it always this issue that is consistently picked upon?" - 19 hours, 7 minutes ago

Should private companies control birth control?

Kristen Huselton said,

"The owners of the company make their stance on medically incorrect 'beliefs', in regards to the contraceptives that they refuse to cover. They believe that those contraceptives cause abortions...which, as medically proven, since it is a measure to PREVENT contraception, is not a sound argument. Throwing their religious beliefs against sound fact, and consequently being made into law, is unsettling. These corporations are now regarded as religious personhoods. There are lines that need to be drawn." - 19 hours, 18 minutes ago

"I never heard Sustaita play or sing, but I feel I know him through my Mother, Gabriela Gomez Humphrey, who loved his music. When he would play in Victoria, she would beg my Father to take her to the dances. She did not want to miss any of dances. She idolized him like teenagers idolize their favorite rock stars today. His music and his voice made her happy and, perhaps, in her solitude, she swooned also. If she were alive today, she would have shed tears for his death. So, for her, I extend my condolences." - 21 hours, 10 minutes ago

Guest column: We should be saving coastal treasure

San Antonio Bay Foundation said,

"This article is extremely misleading as the science simply does not support the statements made. The 5th Circuit Court based its decision on the lack of proximal cause, hence the chain of causation lacked vital links (science) to support this view point. Long term declines in species of wildlife are seldom attributed to a single source issue. We must work together and refrain from costly, frivolous, law suits which exhaust available funds. Approximately $10,000,000 were spent, by both sides, on TAP vs. Shaw . Those funds could have been utilized to directly benefit whooping cranes through conservation easements, research, habitat management, outreach, environmental education, etc... Should private companies control birth control?

Ronald Sandidge said,

"Well Ms. Gill has not been educated in business. #1, you as an employee do not get to chose what you employer subscribes to for health insurance, if they do at all. It is helpful to get it that way to get a group rate but they are not required to have it. And they don't have a set rate, they may make you pay for it and the benefits are 50/50. And you can work there or go somewhere else. It is just enticement to get better employees if the company wishes to do that. When I started working most did not offer it in anyway. Just like BCBS, different plans pay for different things. I ran into that again not long ago. Just the way it is. And book full of untruths John? If you don't study history maybe, which most do not nowadays." - 1 day, 1 hour ago

Should private companies control birth control?

John Schlembach said,

"For the record, here is my full response. Broadly speaking, no. I'm not going to rule out the idea of an exemption just because, but the problem comes with its own baggage. That is: once it gets started, where does it stop? As in the case of Hobby Lobby, since the SCOTUS ruling, there have been companies drafting letters to the President asking for a similar exemption in their hiring practices. They wish to discriminate against gays and lesbians. To continue the idea further, what's to stop a company from falsely claiming a religious exemption to get out of paying for an expense as Eden Foods CEO Michael Potter has done? This would have to involve the government to determine what is and isn't a legitimate religious belief. I don't think anyone wants to go down that road." - 1 day, 9 hours ago
