Greg Abbott to visit Victoria West High School

Patrick Nelson said,

"While I can understand the reasoning behind keeping West High visit unavailable from the public as just another standard procedure birthed by a series of unimaginable evils - I have to admit that I am very disappointed if he doesn't make any other stops locally that's open to public , while he is down in the area... Given that current events/issues/politics is a passion of mine, I would have loved to attend an event with him, maybe if I'm lucky even get to shake his hand.... If anyone reading this knows of any other stops that he would be making in the general area, please let me know " - 2 hours, 6 minutes ago

Students examine AIDS, genocide in state projects

Kate Klimist said,

"Ms. Arratia, Thank you so much for your post. It means so much to me that you took the time to watch and write a response that adds to the project. Perhaps I should change the message from "will" to "could". One message is clear, if there is a possibility of contracting HIV, a person should be checked every year. Skylar Jones, I am so incredibly proud of you. Congratulations on a brilliant project. As usual, you find a way to touch everyone with purpose. Way to go, Skylar!" - 6 hours ago

Victoria officials weigh cutting back road projects with increasing tax rate

Brian Vandale said,

"Cut back on the pay raises you give yourselves.Stop wasting monies on what Victoria doesn't need and spend it on the roads. And that doesn't mean just in the Country Club areas. It seems that the only solution y'all can think of is raise everyones taxes, but give tax breaks to major companies that don't stay here. This fits right in with Ben and his driveway, pay more taxes and do as we say.We need more money to waste." - 9 hours, 18 minutes ago

Greg Abbott to visit Victoria West High School

Misty Brasfield Urrabazo said,

"Well of course he would go visit schools with such large enrollment, new buildings, and funding potential. I would love to see him visit Bloomington ISD just to see what the percentages of economically disadvantaged are and the LIMITED funding opportunities that exist. and before the negativity starts flowing in... that last statement was not a slap to Bloomington residents and tax payers but a fact of how these percentages influence funding from the state and local level. The small schools hurt financially too and they are often overlooked. Why not visit BISD and get a tour of what smaller schools are facing and what they actually do." - 10 hours, 28 minutes ago

Victoria resident refuses to remove renegade driveway

Paul Polasek, Mayor City of Victoria Texas said,

"I only participate in the advocate blogs to help facilitate good discussion and differing opinions, I simply do not have time to respond to everyone here. Regarding this issue, please understand 14 of your fellow citizens, 7 on planning commissioners and 7 council members, read through all the facts and all agreed on this issue. In no way was this decision mine alone. The process was played out over a couple of months. I would caution people from coming to such strong conclusions based on just the contents of the article alone. Just my opinion." - 12 hours, 14 minutes ago

Victoria resident refuses to remove renegade driveway

Paul Polasek, Mayor City of Victoria Texas said,

"Let me provide an example of why in this case permits are needed. Driveways such as the one shown in the picture are required to have a certain amount of “slope” on the sides. Why? Because over time we have learned that if a driver runs off the road, into the ditch and hits the side of the driveway it can cause serious damage and possible death. By requiring a certain amount of slope, damage in these types of accidents is minimized. The sides of the driveway Mr. Commerson installed do not have the required amount of slope because he did not obtain a permit it and build it to specification. Now wouldn’t it be terrible if some young person ran off the road and hit that driveway and lost his or her life. " - 16 hours, 20 minutes ago

Victoria resident refuses to remove renegade driveway

Paul Polasek, Mayor City of Victoria Texas said,

"There is much more to this story that is not included in this article. On multiple occasions during the process of constructing his shop Mr. Commerson was told verbally and in written form he would need to get a permit for his driveway. His permit would have required a variance and in my opinion most likely he would have gotten it. Seven members of the city planning commission voted unanimously to deny this after hearing all the facts. Mr. Commerson didn’t even show up at the planning commission meeting to offer an explanation. Each city council member was given a detailed report of the situation and all seven members of council agreed with planning commissions. We have a duty to uphold the rules and the regulation the citizens of this community all abide by. It would be unfair to all those who abide by the permit process for us to just ignore this. Students examine AIDS, genocide in state projects

Anna Arratia said,

"I watched the video and it was very good! Great job! My only comment that is bothering me about the video is the end when she stated, "it will be 10 years before you know if you have HIV or AIDS". The way it comes off is that it takes 10 years to show up, this is false. It may for some people that are in really good health, but mostly, and all depending on your health and immune system, it only takes a few months. If you think you contracted HIV last week, it won't show up right away, but the virus will show in a few months. Many people just don't realize they have it and don't get tested for it. So it's important to get tested every year just to make sure! The state does a great job at contacting individuals who might have come in contact, and it's all confidential! Other than that, great job at bringing awareness to this cause! There are many misconceptions about HIV/AIDS and she is absolutely right, it's about knowledge and making better decisions! Victoria resident refuses to remove renegade driveway

Laura Vickers said,

"with everything that is wrong with Victoria they have to go after one man with a perfectly good driveway! Looks like we're going to have to do something about our council man and anyone else that runs our city! Election put them in their jobs maybe some new blood will bring new perspectives because this is stupid flat out stupid. They should of inspected it and if it is not to code give him time to bring it to code NOT TEAR IT OUT! I will sign a petition for him to keep his driveway if that is what it takes. Jerks they are being petty and childish! " - 19 hours, 1 minute ago

Victoria resident refuses to remove renegade driveway

Hillary Fluitt Rosengrant said,

"oh for crying out loud let the man keep the driveway! Its absurd that the city is overly concerned with something like this when we have other important issues they could be focusing on. Have him pay the permit fee, get it to specs if its not, and maybe a small fine for not applying for the permit before hand. Its obscene that this is even a major issue. It should have no effect of his property value and even if it does its his property and he is the one who would take a loss if sold. it looks good and isn't an eyesore or anything so i don't see what the issue is other then simply not following procedure. And with the mayor saying he would've probably approved just shows this is more a pride and making an example out of someone more than anything. Approve it, pay the permit fee, a small fine, and move along!!" - 19 hours, 5 minutes ago
