The Write Stuff
This blog is about writing. Not reporting or journalism, but creative writing -- poetry, short stories, novels. And not just about the finished product but how we, as writers go about the process, and the trials, tribulations, blood, sweat and tears that go along with it. I'll also talk about another process -- publishing. Finding the right literary agent or publisher, self-publishing, e-publishing, what are the options and what are the chances of breaking into print? That's about it. I am by no means a best selling novelist or have all the answers, but consider this the beginning of a dialogue among a group of people who put pen to paper (okay, finger to keyboard) to release something inside us, something that must be shared.

ALongLook - > The Write Stuff -> Awakenings
Awakenings

I jolted wide awake last night, actually early this morning, with a potential lead paragraph for the true crime story I'm writing. I love it and hate it when that happens (depending on how long it takes to go back to sleep).

Here's what came to me:

"I shook hands with a baby killer. I grasped the same right hand that held a 3-year-old face down in a bathtub and strangled an 11-year old with a telephone cord.

The handshake and accompanying verbal greeting seemed like the right thing to do at the time. I was standing in line at a Subway restaurant when he walked in and we were face to face. I couldn't slug  him. So, I stuck out my hand."

Well...that's just the initial thoughts, I'm sure I'll tweak it. Maybe I'm on my way now.
