Modeling compound or delicious treat? Why not both?

OK, I want a show of hands out there. How many of you guys have eaten Play-Doh?

Seriously, be honest. You don't have to admit to it publicly. Just acknowledge that it's happened.

I've never tried the store-bought stuff, but my mom would mix up a peanut butter Play-Doh recipe for us every once in a while - something we could play with for a while, possibly decorate with chocolate chips and the like, but then gobble away.

And with the exception of the stickyness that ensued, it was a pretty good deal. I thought that, with summer's end approaching, this could be another way for parents to keep the kiddos occupied - and an easy snack to prepare, too.

Here's how:

Take a cup of non-fat dry milk, a half cup of peanut butter and a fourth-cup of honey. Mix it up and VOILA!

It's actually pretty good.

As far as "real" Play-Doh, I guess I can't say. (Although I will admit to taking a chomp out of a stick of chalk once, thinking it looked a lot like those vanilla-flavored sticks that come in Fun Dip pouches. Not the same. Trust me) I have plenty of friends who say they actually like the taste of  Play Doh. From its smell, it seems like it'd be a bit salty. But who am I to guess?

In case you're curious, check out this Web site for another viewpoint on the Play Doh-eating phenomenon. Funny stuff.

PlayDoh -the clay that ends up being a pychodelic mess in cans. I remember that stuff....put crayons & paste also come to mind. I remember kids eating paste in school. It came in large tubs and the teacher would give us popcicle sticks to use with it. There was also a boy I remember who sat across from me in 1st grade named Lewis (never forgot him hee hee hee) who stuck crayons in his ears and other facial orifices, One thing that use to mesmerise me, though, was Silly Putty. You could mash it down on the funny pages and it would copy it to the Putty. I used to love contorting the faces that were imprinted. Okay, time to grow up for a little while. I'll regress later on today.

I know what you mean - I love the way both things smell, too! That, and sunscreen. They all bring back happy memories of childhood and summer. Sometimes it's fun going back. I use my best friend's 4-year-old sometimes for that very reason. She gives me an excuse to color on her chalk board, play with her Light Bright and mold with Play-Doh. :)

I've never eaten Play-Doh that I remember, but still love the smell. The smell of that and of crayons will always be a sweet remembrance of childhood for me. Gosh, I haven't played with Play-Doh in years (D'OH!). But now you make me want to go out and buy some. I just recently bought a ginormous box of Crayolas and some coloring books for myself and my grandmother, and we sit and color away. My aunt even joined in one day when she was here. Here's to never forgetting childhood pleasures!
