Oliver Stone to make Dubbya feature and a hip hop Jane Austen?
Unless you have been living under a rock forever, you know who Oliver Stone is and you know the movies he has been involved with. World Trade Center, Alexander, Any Given Sunday , The People vs. Larry Flynt , JFK.... well The Hollywood Reporter reports that Thandie Newton and Ioan Gruffudd have been cast in Oliver Stone's biography of President George W. Bush, titled "W." Newton will play Condoleezza Rice and Gruffudd will play former Prime Minister, Tony Blair. Josh Brolin has been cast as George W. Bush and Elizabeth Banks will play First Lady Laura Bush. James Cromwell will play George H.W. Bush and Ellen Burstyn will play Barbara Bush. According to sources to the trade, those familiar with the script say Bush "is depicted as an easily distracted figure predisposed to personal agendas, though they say the script occasionally shows a more sympathetic side." AND Variety reports that Sony's Screen Gems will produce a hip-hop musical version of Jane Austen's "Emma." Chris Bender and J.C. Spink will produce via their Benderspink banner. Tyger Williams wrote the screenplay. The contemporary set version will take place at an inner-city high school and revolves around a stepbrother and a stepsister. Scott Strauss and Shannon Gaulding will be producing the feature.

When he (W), ran for election--a lot of his supporters had Dubya stickers on their cars. Now it is offensive? His life is offensive. Frat momma's boy that he is. All William Oliver Stone has to do is write the truth about GW and his family and that will be offensive enough on its own. He made a good movie about Nixon that was rather sympathetic. He has either directed or written many great movies. Personally, he is a little arrogant. But many of his movies are awesome. OK, JFK sucked. Also while Bush was AWOL , William Stone enlisted in the Army and was in Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division. Yea, but.......No...........Oh, he is a Liberal--his service doesn't count. Just ask Al Gore, John Kerry, John Glenn, John Murtha, Max Cleland or Bob Kerry. posted by

southtexas, chill out! Yes, Bj knows it is President Bush, but calling him Dubbya is offensive?? Please! He's been called much worse I'm sure. I agree with Richard. I think that Oliver Stone wants his movie to make money and calling his movie W or Dubbya or Dubba Bubba or whatever will catch a lot more attention than calling it "A movie picking on President George W. Bush right as he's leaving office because I think he was a stinky president and I can't wait for someone else to be elected." And Sailor, I'm not sure Mr. Stone is as despised as you think. There are lots of people who enjoy his movies [I personally don't own any, but have seen several] and take them as what they are: ENTERTAINMENT. I think a lot of times people forget that moviemakers are in this biz to make money and if they can make it by throwing someone else under the bus, they will. I do not let Mr. Stone, Mr. Moore, President Bush or anyone else tell me what I should and shouldn't believe or think. I form my own opinions after gathering as much evidence as possible. So yeah, do I think the Oliver Stones and Michael Moores of the world take it too far? maybe. But I don't begrudge them making movies or making money. And I don't think they should be despised for expressing their opinions through their form of art. If I don't agree with their opinion or don't care to hear/see it, I don't watch the movie. DUH. Bj, a hip hop "Emma"? Wow. Might be great IF they can pull it off, though I'm not normally a fan of updating classics. posted by

"According to sources to the trade, those familiar with the script say Bush "is depicted as an easily distracted figure predisposed to personal agendas, though they say the script occasionally shows a more sympathetic side." Of course he will. I'm suprised if it will even be that mild. In my opinion Stone has only made two decent movies. "Heaven and Earth" and "World Trade Center" Stone is a conspiracy theorist and an Uber Liberal. of course he is going to make a Negative movie about the President. there is only one person in Hollywood more despised than Stone. and that guy makes Stone look like Rush Limbaugh in comparison. Michael Moore OK now I gotta go wash my mouth out for uttering that name. (or wash my fingers as I'm typing)
