It's another "Dark Knight" post, but I had to put it up. Finally Heath Ledger's Joker has been revealed on the cover of a UK magazine. And he looks good as Gotham City's Clown Prince of Crime. I was wary of Ledger as the Joker in the beginning especially since he had bashed comic book movies in the past. But I am willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. While there is no comparing him to Jack Nicholson's Joker of the 1989 Tim Burton directed "Batman", I am interested to see his take on the character. Take a gander.... So producers are moving forward on the fourth entry in the racing series. Personally I think it should be called "4 the Fast & 4 the Furious" but that's me. If I remember correctly the first sequel had three possible scripts/scenarios written. One that featured Walker if they couldn't get Diesel back, one that featured Diesel if they couldn't get Walker and one that reunited them if they could get both men to sign on. Well Diesel didn't and Walker starred opposite Tyrese, Ludacris and Devon Aoki. In the third entry, Tokyo Drift, we met a street racing punk who is sent to live with his father in Tokyo and falls into the underground drift racing circuit. I didn't hate it as much as I expected to and I loved the Diesel cameo at the end. I like fast, hot looking cars and women and this series has boasted plenty of feasting for the senses. And come on after the first one came out, who didn't want to buy a Honda Civic and fix it up? Or tell me how many people got their automobile's exhaust system redone at the very least to give it that fast and furious sound? Moviehole (http://www.moviehole.net) is reporting that Jordana Brewster's character from "The Fast and the Furious" will be returning in this one. Justin Lin (Tokyo Drift) will be returning to direct Walker and Diesel in the new flick. I didn't want to kill Bow Wow when I saw Tokyo Drift so I am already a fan of this director. The site also has some synopsis info (spoilers below):
...and while it didn't completely suck like I expected it to, it didn't hit a home run either. My problem with Hitman started the moment I saw the trailer. It fed you this image that the Hitman character was this saintly killer of killers, rooting out evil by offing the worst of the worst. I wanted to strangle the director at that point. I have played the games the movie is adapted from and I have loved them. But the movie, at least going by the trailer, was deviating from the game so much. The guy kills people for money. Period. Anything else is just stupid. Second problem...when has there ever EVER been a good live action movie adapted from a video game? Double Dragon? No Needless to say I wasn't expecting an Oscar caliber production. My casting issue is with Timothy Olyphant. The guy just does not put fear into me when I see him. Agent 47 should be able to put some fears into the people he goes after, when they are fortunate enough to see him before he offs him. They did an okay job, but I would have gone with another guy. Who? I am not sure who. Not Vin Diesel, but another unknown bald guy. People get shot, things get blown up for a while. The plot is held together by spit and paper clips. You can wait for this to hit the DVD bargain bin. Play the video game while you wait. Are there any? I have seen a lot of movies in my time, but I can't recall all that many Turkey day movies that stand out. For assistance I Googled "Thanksgiving movies" and found various lists of top 10 Thanksgiving movies. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Pieces of April Home for the Holidays The Ice Storm If you have any others, feel free to put them up. Christmas time we are drowning in movies, but not for Thanksgiving. Someone needs to do something about that.
Who in their right mind does not know the call of GI Joe as they launched into battle against COBRA, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world. The cartoon was awesome, the actions figures, the toy vehicles it was great, even the PSA's were enjoyable, if not laughable now when you look back on them. Well now the Joes are coming to the big screen courtesy of Paramount Pictures. The story is set at Brussels-based GI JOE, an acronym for the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, and revolves around an international co-ed force of operatives who use high-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organization headed by a Scottish arms dealer. Sienna Miller is reportedly the first actor to enlist in Paramount Pictures' big-budget tentpole G.I. Joe, reports Variety. In the meantime check the intro from the movie. Spectacular animation, awesome song and you get Cobra Commander's classic "Cobra Retreat!!" Line. http://www.superherohype.co... As studios have started to postpone movie productions and networks continue to shut down due to the writers strike, some good news has finally come in. The strike has already affected night talk shows and some network shows including shutting down production on the Bionic Woman. So will these new talks help or will the Hatfield's and McCoys continue their feud? I don't know about others, but I am annoyed at the strike because it stands to affect "Heroes" and several films I have been following. I mean how hard is it to sort out all these people make gobs of money. Who cares? So you're sitting with your friends. So I challenged her and others around me to name 10 Movies that Matter. I guess I am biting a bit of the concept of 100 movies you must see before you die, but oh well. It took a lot longer for people than I think it should have. But they had to be movies that mattered in the grand scheme of things. And you would know as soon as you uttered it whether it was one that mattered or not. Mine: Gone With the Wind Seinfeld's Bee Movie edged out Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe's American Gangster this weekend pulling out an estimated $26 million. I am a week late I will admit, but I saw American Gangster this past Friday and I was impressed. Denzel has played a character with the same sort of presence, bravado and attitude in a number of other movies, so I got what I expected out of him. I was impressed with Crowe as Richie Robbins, a womanizing poster boy for a bad father's but one of the only honest cops left at the time. While I was disappointed when I read early reviews that dictated not much screen time and interaction with Washington and Crowe, it worked in the movie. Seeing their separate stories unfold and come together with each passing scene as Robbins got closer and closer to the heart of Lucas' heroin empire, was great. There's a kind of edge-of-your seat excitement when the moment happens when they lock eyes for the first time, Robbins confident, Lucas, showing hints of weakness and doubt in the armor he wore throughout the film. I am not one to use a lot of cliches so I don't use that description lightly. Sure you see a lot of folks get their wigs split, but it's a gangster movie, what do you expect. Check it out. Fred Claus squeaked into third place. But it's Vince Vaughn. Every movie Vaughn is in (much as I love the guy don't get me wrong) he's the same guy, so stay home and throw in "Dodgeball" or "Wedding Crashers" for a funnier Vaughn and wait for this to hit the video store.
I had fallen off the blogging train, but for my five loyal fans and blog readers I am back. Usually I would be giving you sage wisdom on what to bring home to rent on this lovely Tuesday I am instead going to bring you a bit about the new Bat-film, "The Dark Knight". As stated I know I am not the only one who has their calender marked for July 18. Batman Begins was a phenomenal movie from Chris Nolan that reinvigorated the Bat-franchise and erased the stain that was "Batman & Robin" and nipples on the bat-suit. Nolan brought realism and purpose to the character and while the movie has some kinks I could nitpick about here and there, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The last few minutes with the Joker reference were great. Now we get Heath Ledger as the Joker. I was leery on him at first as he is gone on record as to why he did not want to do comic book movies in the past. And there were not kind words to be had from him on the subject. But he's in one now. Not much has been seen of him, but the images that have been released are fairly terrifying and that is awesome on so many levels. With Nolan back, Christian Bale back in the lead role, Morgan Freeman in an expanded role and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent and potentially, Two-Face. It's going to be a long wait for July.
American Gangster The movie premise is interesting and one can help but be sucked in by the man actors involved. It's a pity they only share little screentime at the same time. But I will still check it out. I have been waiting for it since I saw the poster months ago. Bee Movie Seinfeld is Barry B. Benson is a graduate bee fresh out of college who is disillusioned at his lone career choice: making honey. On a rare trip outside the hive, Barry's life is saved by Vanessa, a florist in New York City. As their relationship blossoms, he discovers humans are mass consumers of honey and decides to sue the human race for stealing bees' honey. Yeah, it sounded stupid to me too. But you can take the most absurd concept, make it CG with cutesy characters and it works. Martian Child |
