...if you like these sort of movies. I hate pointless sequels myself. But apparently...

The Hollywood Reporter reports that "Dexter" co-star Julie Benz will headline "Saw V," the fifth installment in the "Saw" horror franchise at Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures. Tobin Bell, who portrayed Jigsaw in the previous films, will also appear in the film as well.

David Hackl - who served as the production designer on the second, third and fourth "Saw" films - will helm the fifth film. Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan penned the screenplay.

Shooting is underway in Toronto for an Oct. 24 release.
**

I wonder if we can petition to end Halloween. Because if we did that, there would be no saw. I mean, when are they going to stop...Saw X? Saw XXIV? Saw.....whatever the Roman numeral for '85'?

Franchise movies should be done in threes. Period. The Evil Dead series,  Resident Evil, The Matrix, X-Men, Spider-Man...they did three...and for the record, all the third movies were horrid in my opinion. Star Wars was done in sets of three.

Harry Potter seems to be the only exception to the rule I'll admit.

Three is your cut off! Wait a bunch of years, reboot with something new. By the fourth movie you're retreading so much of what made the first movies good that you make it a joke.

I know money talks in Hollywood and if you keep making money, you should keep shelling them out. I have made a promise to myself though, that I would never make a pointless sequel, I am just hoping I can stick to it and once I finally break in out there, that I won't sell out for a buck for my Super Awesome Movie 4, 5, 6....

"He's the world's greatest ninja, but he's also next-generation. He's not afraid to use a sword one second, and a split-second later he's pulling out his Glock," Sommers told USA Today. "His chief nemesis is arguably the world's other great ninja, Storm Shadow. The two grew up together, were blood brothers and now are mortal enemies."

Sommers stressed that the movie is an origins story, so his challenge is to explain why the bad guy wears a metal mask, why Snake Eyes doesn't talk and other strange things kids took for granted. "For people who know nothing about it, it'll make sense," Sommers said. "And to people who love this stuff, it'll show where they all came from."

Adapted by Stuart Beattie, the action-adventure also stars Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui, Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Arnold Vosloo and Christopher Eccleston.

I was a bit apprehensive before but seeing this picture...man I am aching to see what the other Joes and Cobra troops are going to look like....
Yoooooooooooooooo JOE!!!!!!

So the executive producer of "The Grudge" and "The Ring" decided creativity is still overdone, and have crafted another remake of a better-made Thai movie.

In "Shutter," Joshua Jackson and Rachel Taylorstar as photographer Ben and his new wife Jane. Ben's new assignment--a lucrative fashion shoot in Tokyo--was supposed to be a kind of working honeymoon. Ben and Jane arrive in said Japan and end up running down a woman standing in the middle of the road, who has materialized out of nowhere. (Don't you hate it when that happens?)

Upon regaining consciousness after the accident, Ben and Jane cannot find any trace of the girl Jane believes she hit with the car. After arriving and getting into his work, Ben, has discovered mysterious white blurs--eerily evocative of a human form--that have materialized on an entire day's work from the expensive photo shoot. Jane's concerns escalate as she believes the blurs in Ben's photos are the dead girl from the road, who is now seeking vengeance for them leaving her to die.

Dun dun duuuuuuun!

I try not to prejudge and all, but this is another one I just have a hard time having high hopes for.

Other options this weekend are Owen Wilson,'s "Drillbit Taylor" and another Tyler Perry, stage play turned feature film, "Meet the Browns."

And while "Never Back Down" did not completely suck as much as I thought it would, it was far from a great or even mediocre movie and far from this generation's "Karate Kid" Froy thought it would be.

While Jeff Wadlow's crafted some beautiful fight scenes, the acting in the rest of the movie was so not up to par.

Sean Faris actually did alright in his role as Jake Tyler, a high schooler with a history of brawling and daddy issues. Austin-born Amber Heard reminds me quite a bit of Jessica Alba in the face. Although her acting is below even what Alba churns out in her movies and that isn't saying much. Djimon Hounsou did a fair job as Jake's trainer.

So Jake and his daddy issues get a rough introduction to the world of silver spoon fed rich kids and underground MMA combat. His pride is hurt and he wants payback. But as he trains he finds something more than revenge and a way to deal with the fight he has within himself.

And while I admire filmmakers for trying to step out of the box and take to vastly different things and smash em together, I just don't see these pampered pretty boys/girls having their weekend raves at their parents 50-room mansions and breaking out into UFC combat.

Maybe it happens. Maybe that's what happens when you get bored and have too much money,  I have never been in the position so I wouldn't know.

Bad acting, male and female half naked eye candy and blatant rip offs of the Rocky movies are included. You could definitely better spend an hour and 46 minutes of your life. Wait for this to hit cable.

So I saw the trailer for the new "Incredible Hulk" movie starring Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt, and I find myself underwhelmed.

I love Edward Norton and it's a comic book adaption so you know I will be in my seat for it on opening day.

The film is a reboot of the Hulk franchise which basically forgets Ang Lee's version of the Hulk. Now I know that movie catches a lot of flack but I don't think it was as bad as people try to say it was.

This Hulk is supposed to be more in line with what the Bill Bixby TV series was. It will even incorporate the ending theme, which is a nice nod.

But of course I will hold my absolute judgment till I see it. The trailer (the best part of any movie) just doesn't get me jazzed like Iron Man though.

March 12, 2008

Edward Norton (upcoming The Incredibe Hulk) and his Class 5 Films are preparing to shop a feature documentary about the historic presidential campaign mounted by Sen. Barack Obama, says Variety. Here's a clip:

Class 5 has engaged Endeavor partner Ari Emanuel and lawyer Andrew Hurwitz to make a distribution deal for a film the company is producing for release in 2009. Doc has financing in place from Good, Green Film Co. and Citi Prods.

Amy Rice and Alicia Sams are directing the as-yet-untitled pic. They began shooting footage before Obama’s declaration of candidacy to become the Democratic Party’s 2008 presidential nominee. Emanuel, who guided the sales of Sacha Baron Cohen’s pseudo-docs "Borat" and "Bruno," and the Michael Moore docs "Sicko" and "Fahrenheit 9/11," has been an outspoken supporter of Obama. The brother of Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) has organized meet-and-greets in Hollywood and hosted fund-raisers for Obama. Norton, a longtime Endeavor client, has also been a supporter, reportedly donating to Obama’s campaigns.

I bring you two movies, from the trailers (my favorite part of the movies) that I am looking forward to.

The first is Al Pacino & Robert DeNiro staring in "Righteous Kill."

As the Yahoo! summary goes...

"A pair of veteran New York City police detectives are on the trail of a vigilante serial killer. They are called in to investigate the murder of a notorious pimp, which appears to have ties to a case they solved years before. Like the original murder, the victim is a suspected criminal whose body is found accompanied by a four line poem justifying the killing. When additional crimes take place, it becomes clear the detectives are looking for a serial killer, one who targets criminals that have fallen through the cracks of the judicial system. His mission is to do what the cops can't do on their own--take the culprits off the streets for good. The similarities between the recent killings and their earlier case raise a nagging question: Did they put the wrong man behind bars?"

When I heard about 50 Cent (he's in the movie) shooting a movie with DeNiro, I threw up in my mouth a bit. But now that I see this is the movie and that there seems to be not much 50 Cent in the movie (from the trailer, I could be wrong) I have higher hopes for this movie and eagerly wait the Sept. 12 release.

The second movie is Street Kings, with Keanu Reeves, Forest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie, Chris Evans, Jay Mohr.

Perhaps Forest "PF Flyers" Whitaker did a worthwhile job in this.

According to Yahoo!

"Tom Ludlow,(Reeves)  a veteran LAPD Vice Detective, sets out on a quest to discover the killers of his former partner, Detective Terrance Washington (Terry Crews). Captain Wander's (Whitaker), Ludlow's supervisor, duties include keeping him within the confines of the law--and out of the clutches of Internal Affairs Captain Biggs (Laurie). Ludlow teams up with a young Robbery Homicide Detective to track Washington's killers through the diverse communities of Los Angeles. Their determination pays off when the two detectives track down Washington's murderers and confront them in an attempt to bring them to justice."

Again the trailers did a good job of selling me on this one. I'll be in the seat April 11.

So I am waiting for Vantage Point to begin Friday night. Awaiting the best part of the movie going experience for me, the trailers. Well this trailer comes on that involves some sort of underground fighting. The testosterone-triggered reaction in me was immediately, 'oh #%!$ yeah!!'
But...
The trailer continues and I find out it's the story of  Jake Tyler a, star high school athlete with a penchant for temper flares and brawls who has has recently moved to Orlando, Florida with his family to support his younger brother's shot at a professional tennis career.

Jake is an outsider (of course.) Making an attempt to fit in, at the invitation of a flirtatious classmate, Baja, (Baja? The girl's name is Baja????)  Jake goes to a party where he is unwittingly pulled into a fight with a bully named Ryan McDonald. While he is defeated and humiliated in the fight, a classmate introduces himself to Jake and tells him about the sport known as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

He sees a star in Jake and asks that he meet with his mentor, Jean Roqua ( Djimon Hounsou, who hasn't been in anything worthwhile since Amistad. Though I did like him in Constantine).

As the movie summary continues...Roqua will take Jake under his wing, but it is up to Jake to find the patience, discipline, willingness and reason within him to succeed. For Jake, there is much more at stake than mere victory. His decision will not just settle a score; it will define who he is.

Who in the world OK'd this trash? I just want to sit in on a pitch meeting like that.

Exec: OK, what you got?
Writer: We've got fight club, we've got the hills.
Exec: Both which were critical and commercial smash hits (of course knowing inwardly that that is true about only one of the two, take a guess which one)
Writer: Now smash em together....NEVER BACK DOWN!!!
Exec: Brilliant! Here's 50 million dollars, bring me an Oscar back!

It sickens me I am struggling to come up and do projects to get experience, get noticed and I have so much original stuff better than this, yet these are the people continually churning out movies....

as I said...gag me....

Wow....now this is something that can completely go awry....

From Cinecon

"According to a story in UK's Daily Mail, the blogosphere has people outraged in regards to Robert Downey Jr. taking on the role. Downey Jr plays a worthy Oscar-winning actor taking on a role originally written for a black actor, and rather than re-write the part, he goes method.

Said Downey Jr., "If it's done right, it could be the type of role you called Peter Sellers to do 35 years ago. If you don't do it right, we're going to hell."

In the action comedy “Tropic Thunder,” a group of actors shooting a war movie is led by Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller), a pampered action superstar, Kirk Lazarus (Robert Downey Jr.), an over-the-top Australian-born method actor who has gone to extremes to get into character, and Jeff Portnoy (Jack Black), a gross-out comedy star. "

Wow. So I am soooooo looking forward to "Iron Man" as you can tell from reading my blog recently, but man this...wow I just can't believe he took a role like this. I mean I will have to see the final product to make my final judgment, but just looking at the picture and what I know now I am shaking my head already.

...and while the movie was good, man there was so much unintentional (I am sure) comedy from Forrest Whitaker that overshadowed so much.

Whitaker plays a guy who is sight-seeing in Spain, the location of a huge peace summit where the president of the United States is shot. He is, as you have seen from the commercials, teasers and such, pulled into things. But the character he plays is so just...stupid. He is goofy, makes more facial and body movement than necessary and he runs goofy to boot. But that goofiness is okay because as I learn from watching Vantage Point that goofy running gives you speed like the Flash. One minute he's up on a catwalk watching a cop being gunned down and the next he is sprinting the rescue of a little Spanish girl whose ice cream his butt spilled earlier.

Homeboy had his PF Flyers fastened tight.

I don't know, I mean the guy goes from getting an Oscar to this. It's like the director told him to dial up his inner Forest Gump and turn it up several notches.

Why Forest, why?

And don't get me started on the trailer for that movie that is apparently Kickboxer meets the O.C. that's a rant for another blog.

So as I continue work on Go-Onger and now Gekiranger, I have decided to reach out to a few casting sites that have worked for me in the past and see if I can round out my cast and get some extras.

Star Search Casting
Starz Casting

Among a few others. We'll see what happens. Non-paying gig, and Power Rangers? We'll see how many bite.

Filming didn't go down as scheduled Wednesday. But we still move ahead. Leslie should be filming a scene with Nick "Nolan" Rogers of Ballcrusher fame, on Sunday afternoon.

We at Point/Click productions are doing some simultaneous Sentai shooting as well.

Bj Lewis & Allison Miles will be pulling double duty as Gekiblue and Gekiyellow in an episode of Juken Sentai Gekiranger.

Lewis and Miles star as Rowen and Lindsay, two Juken martial arts students charged with stopping the evil Shongoo-shai Empire.

Joining them will be Niko Walsh, the little sister of Rowen's best friend, David, who was killed trying to stop the Shongoo-Shai. Niko was sworn revenge and leads the Gekiranger in the most important battle against evil!

You know...probably not. But who am I to judge, but someone who likes movies that are actually good. Sorry DeDe, but the movie was not and neither was the former Fresh Prince.

But I give you the leaked alternate ending to "I am Legend."

That is all.

A short entry today....

If all goes well, we should shoot a couple scenes tomorrow evening, post-kickball.

Other than that I have been tweaking the audio from the voice cast for the Japanese footage and recorded some of Leslie's lines with her. Now to just do my own and Wes' and I will do more tests.

Go-On!
