Your Advocate: an editor's blog
As editor of the Victoria Advocate, I want to amplify the readers' voices. I aim to promote transparency about what we do at the newspaper, on our Web site and any other delivery methods. By doing this, I hope to build trust with our readers as we seek to serve our community.

Welcome to the new Web site for the Victoria Advocate. It's all about engaging you in your community. We have new ways for you to blog, to add calendar information, and to post comments, video and photos.

In the newsroom, we're joining in the conversation by blogging ourselves. All of our reporters and some other staffers have selected blog topics we hope connect with our readers. Most are new to this new form of journalism, so please bear with them as they learn what works and what doesn't. In starting on this adventure, we've referred to the tips offered by John Robinson of the Greensboro (N.C.) News-Record. My column Sunday goes into more detail about the changes we're making both in print and online.

We hope you're inspired to create your own blog and participate in various ways. Any site's success rests on the people formerly known as the audience.

Blogging is one of many ways we hope to improve our online interaction with readers. Let us know what else you'd like to see.
