We did a crazy thing this weekend. We took our 2001 Honda Odyssey family hauler down to the local Infiniti dealer and traded it in on a RX-8 sports car. Now you might ask, “Gabriel, don’t you have 4 kids?”

"Why yes I do." However, we are tired of feeling old and suburbanized and do not want to be a van family any more. We still have a 7 seater SUV so we can still haul the kids around. The difference is that now I have a regular car to drive to work and we have a nice fun vehicle for the weekend and date nights.

The minivan was very convenient but not much fun and the experience I had driving it was that most people on the road look at it with distaste and annoyance. I would be driving 70 and get passed constantly because it was a minivan. No one wants to be passed or be behind a minivan it seems. In the same situations in the SUV the people would behave totally different.

So good bye van, hello performance;  I’ll be the guy zipping by you in the loud Japanese tuner car with the kids in the back grinning ear to ear.  Anyone else feel the way I do?

Well I for one saw this coming.
Sony finally won a battle. Betamax, er Blu-ray wins out and I can keep on enjoying my Playstation3. I read an article about Toshiba announcing that they are not going to make any more HD0DVD players, thus forfeiting the contest to set the standard for High Def discs. If you have never watched a movie on Blu- ray, you are missing out and your eyes are suffering. It is quite frankly like looking out the window of your house, even better then HD channels on cable.
Anyway, the point of this topic is, why was there a war over disc type to begin with? They were very close in capabilities and a lot of money has been wasted now by the producers and the consumers on an obsolete product. The XBOX 360 sold an add-on HD-DVD player for $100 bucks that millions of people bought. This thing is now worthless and Microsoft will have to put out a Blu- ray player for it to compete.  Ahh well, I’m glad I chose correctly with Sony this time. I got burned by Microsoft with the first XBOX so I tend to shy away from their stuff if possible.
Anyone else a Playstation3 fan?

Tomorrow is almost here and I have to do some preparation. Hopefully the wife doesn't read this until later in the week.

I am trying to think of something to buy and of course I get the "Oh you don't have to get me anything" line. They even have a commercial on the radio where the girl says don't get me anything to the guy, and in his mind he is saying, " Chocolates? Does that mean she wants chocolates?" So much pressure.

Instead, I am going to take my wife to a special spot on the lake where I took her shortly after we met. I am going to cook a pasta dinner and we Will sit and watch the sun set. It should go over well unless it is too dam cold or windy.

Wish me luck. Anyone else have any big plans for tomorrow?

There is a little known theater in Austin/Houston called the Alamo DraftHouse. Being from Austin, we go as often as possible and so do many others. This weekend I was in Houston and went to the Alamo at West Oaks mall on Saturday night to see Fool's Gold. Movie review aside, the theater was near empty and I was astonished becuase if this were Austin it would be jam packed, especially for a new release.

Alamo is a theater that has every other aisle removed and replaced with a bar like table for you to eat and drink beer/wine on. They serve every beer you can think of in draft/bottle and some great food. People are missing out.

If you ever get the chance, try a flic out there and you won't ever goto a regular theater again.

The movie wasn't half bad either. Kind of like Romancing the stone meets a romantic comedy. 3 out of 5 stars?

I wanted to follow up on the Loss of a Cowboys fan post I did previously. The Giants beat the Cowboys and then go on to with the Super Bowl, which I think is a fitting end. It should have been the Boys, but the Giants managed to do the same thing to Brady that they did to Romo, so I don’t feel quite as bad as I did. I love seeing the underdog win so this is the first year in a long time that I actually watched, and was excited to see the Super Bowl outcome. It was pretty satisfying to see poor old Brady get flustered and blow the game.

I had read articles about how the Patriots were emotionless and it showed. The Giants were very happy to win and cried like any god champion does. I am sure if the Pats had won they would have gone up on stage and acted like the robots they are.

Enough ranting, football is over except for the Party Bowl, I mean Pro Bowl next week which no one really watches anyway. When is the next World Cup anyway? I want to see some soccer riots.
