Taking time to contemplate! Sweat helps!
Amidst the cutting and splitting of firewood and the planting of fruit trees, the sweat and hard work always gives me pause to think. Louis L'Amour always said, "Take time to contemplate!" L'Amour, my literary and poetry mentor, was indeed a man of deep thought. I learned to love reading his work from my dad.

Anyway the sweat and work got me to thinking over a few things to see what I've learned over the past few years. I decided I'd put them down in words so maybe my son, Lance, might learn many of the things I learned way too late in life. In regards to spiritual things;

  • The Lord God is longsuffering and it's never too late to get right with Him.
  • Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
  • And Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life and the only way to Heaven despite what Oprah says!
  • Parents are treasures never appreciated until life has whipped your rear!
  • Parents are to be loved and honored, no matter what, so your days on this earth may be long!
  • No one is too busy, too intelligent or too good to have an often kind word for and gentle loving talk with their parents!
  • The Holy Spirit is here to give us power, not to be quenched or grieved! I have been guilty of both far too many times!
  • A anointed Pastor who prays for, fasts for and shepherds his flock in good times and in bad should, in turn, be honored by and ministered to by his flock!
  • Paul, the Apostle said, "Pray without ceasing!" Excellent advice!
  • Many people who call themselves Christians have forgotten to hate the sin, not the sinner! With whatsoever measure we judge others, that same measure will be meted back to us!
Regarding personal things;
  • My motto is always to write down those thoughts. Essay, poetry or prose, you can always come back years later and be surprised at just how painful or delightful a given period in your life really was!
  • www.poetry.com is a good place to store your grief-your wonder, your successes-your failures, your regrets-your hopes, your pain-your healing...I have left anguish and joy there.
  • Having been very ill for quite some time I miss collecting a paycheck for work I was proud of!
  • Finally getting well is a wonderful thing!
  • A home, without someone you truly love to share it with, is just another piece of real estate!
  • I'm far too young to have so much gray hair!
  • Writing is a wonderful escape! A delightful release!
  • Aching joints after a days work are a blessing!
  • When you love, always love truly and deeply, no matter what!
  • When you give of yourself, give all, no matter the risk!
Of things political;
  • Both political parties are corrupt and deserve our scorn and reproach! Neither, our loyalty!
  • There's only one completely honest member of Congress! Ron Paul!
  • Americans have killed off two generations of children in our abortion mills! We deserve what's coming!
  • Politicians are presently trying to spend our way out of a mess we created using our children and grandchildren's money! Disaster is pending and deserved!
  • "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country!" Don't tell that to those in line at FEMA! It's politically incorrect!
  • My Dad said this country started going down hill when we realized we could vote ourselves government benefits! He was a wise and politically incorrect individual!
  • I was recently derided for working hard to get off of disability! I was advised to soak it up!
  • Rightfully, your next stimulus check should be spent buying silver dollars for your children and grandchildren!
  • You never really appreciate the local tax protest group until you pay your first property taxes!
  • In today's world truth is more relative than relevant!
Of things local;
  • Change happens! Embrace it! Grab it! Guide it! Be careful with it! Work the change or it will surely work you!
  • In this economy we have seen the average working people slip to the working poor! And that's a fact, Jack!
  • A nuclear plant, an ethanol plant and a new coal plant. Upgrades to the barge canal, a four year college and a rebuilt Macaroni Rail Line! A surge in local growth is coming!
  • We can either carefully guide it or we can stomp our feet and bellyache about the inevitable and wind up paved over like the Central Texas Hill Country!
  • As long as we have a resource, water, someone else wants, Bill West and those pulling his strings will do their best to take it!
  • Paul Revere was only appreciated by a very few! The Revolutionary War was fought and won by a MINORITY of colonial citizens! I can identify!
  • "A prophet is not without honor except in his own town!" Jesus nailed that one on the head! Oh yeah, He was a carpenter!
Some will agree and some will disagree with all or parts of what I've said here but all know that I say what's on my mind without reservations! Guess I'm still politically incorrect too! Ok, I've cooled off! Time to mulch those new fruit trees and I have a date with a lovely ax!

How can anyone say that parents should be loved and honored no matter what? That's ridiculous!  Not every parent is deserving of being honored.

Abe, I use a heavy maul. It makes the wood JUMP apart when I split it. How have you been? I've lost 70 pounds and feel a little better but the diabetes is still bothering me. Any more than about an hour and a half on my feet and I have to sit down until the circulation returns. It's irritating. Can't write with a pen or pencil like I used to either. Fingers go numb! Drives me nuts.

I know the number is small but the nasty feeling and comments towards me from the radically anti-nuke crowd hurt my feelings especially after all of the incredible amount of work I've done to protect our water resources.

DOC:  GOOD POST.  Make sure it's a choppin' axe and not a battleaxe.  :>)
