"No way,no how,no John McCain" The Hillary Factor and why Excellent Choice Nuance v Steadfast Start the real campaign Glad to be back Vacation bound....Destination...Chicago Do negative ads work? Will be vice presidential choice influence your vote? Scott McClellan outs Fox News October 07 November 07 December 07 January 08 February 08 March 08 April 08 May 08 June 08 July 08 August 08 John Edwards & Barack Obama went straight for the jugular in going after Hillary. They attacked the vote on calling the Iranian Revolutionary Council a terrorist organization. Saying it will give this president the excuse he needs to go to war with Iran. Hillary’s inconsistent answers were exposed on social security and at the end of the debate she agreed with New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's controversial plan to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants but then a minute later started backtracking. Now Bill Clinton was a master at being evasive but her facial expressions and demeanor showed she is no Bill Clinton. Will this debate change the numbers? I don’t know. I think what was really exposed last night was status quo positions of the front runner. How can my party complain about the secrecy in the Bush Administration if Hillary does not turn over all her documents? I understand it gives the other candidates an unfair advantage, because she will be the only candidate required to do this. But if this lack of transparency is going to stop, someone has to take the lead. The other is lobbyist money; Hillary has out raised all the candidates of both parties in lobbyist money from Wall Street, defense department, and insurance and drug companies. Some might see it as success but really it business as usual. Somehow we must have a leader to take us to public financing because these lobbyist have too much influence. I am getting suspicious as to why the Bush Administration is getting their way on the latest NSA spying bill. Did the telecommunication lobbyist have something to do with it? I don’t know. This may sound like a slam on Hillary but it really isn’t, it just exposes some of her weakness in a primary. Great leaders learn form mistakes and they don’t usually repeat them. Constructive criticism will only make a person stronger.

Lets get back to the important issues, please.
This morning, I tuned in to MSNBC’s "Morning Joe" for a recap of the week-end news. The network was all over the Jeremiah Wright appearance at the NAACP convention in I say, why not? Jeremiah Wright has just as much right to gain fame ,fortune and redemption using politics as Reverend Billy Graham, Falwell and Pat Robertson did. Jeremiah Wright has a book coming out in about a month, so he will make many appearances, as did the above-mentioned clergyman.Barack Obama has already denounced the controversial statements of his former pastor, so there is no more he can do.Barack Obama told Chris Wallace that the issue of his pastors words are fair game. This only goes to prove that Barack Obama and Jeremiah Wright are not joined at the hip. For Jeremiah Wright to go in isolation, until after the election would be dishonest and deceiving. If voters think that Barrack Obama will instill an agenda of racial division, then they should not vote for him. I have yet to see any evidence of that. To borrow a line from Jeremiah Wright "...I served six years in the military, does that make me patriotic? How many years did (Vice President Dick) Cheney serve?" I would've taken it a step or two more by saying "I do not condone torture, nor did I bypass the Constitution by monitoring American citizens without a warrant, or FISA court approval.” When did we stop taking the totality of the person into consideration? I am sure the George W. Bush and Cheney supporters, have taken their redeeming factors into consideration. So can we let Hillary Clinton stay in the race until she runs out of money, stop worrying about the flag pins, Jeremiah Wright, or if John McCain benefited by using his wife corporate jet for campaign trips? 3 comments from 2 users

Yes,maryann opinions vary ,but 81% think this country is going in the wrong direction. So the important issues. I'm talking about, reflect this number. Economics,Iraq, Social Security ,and health care are pretty high up on this list. Like I said, unless a potential voter thinks that Barack Obama is going to adopt a racist agenda, his pastor's views should not be that important. IMO..... again take the totality of both persons , if that issue is really important to you. You do yourself a favor, but I agree on the lack of judgment angle. Likely scenario Maryann..... Michelle Obama, probably chose this church and is probably more in tune with its teachings...I think the wife has the most influence.,when it comes time to pick a church and religion.... No stats or data to back this up,but he may just be a passive member in that church.. Not an excuse but just a thought. posted by

I agree with a lot of your points John, but I don't really worry about the GOP ,because their numbers are dropping and the new Democratic voters are away up. I think Barack Obama will be able to sway more independent voters that John McCain or Hillary Clinton. This country is long overdue a discussion on race. Why? Because no one wants to hear the struggles of the 1950s, instead, they want to start in the1990s..... I can understand the anger over reverse discrimination policies that we have in place today, but legislators are scared to reverse them. Perhaps it's time to do away with affirmative action, but first we must make it known that that program was a necessity at one time ,in order to level the playing field. I just had a person tell me today (38 years old) he didn't know things of the nature that Jeremiah Wright was talking about, actually took place. When we have the discussion., It must be civil without using in-your-face tactics. posted by

Mike, I think the key word is "important" issue. What's important is an opinion, and people's opinions vary John thinks that the pastor should keep talking. I do to, but for different reasons, as I am not a Hillary supporter. Maybe this thing will run its course, but J. Wright has a way with words, and that "way" doesn't always help Obama. As a voter, I think it is important to look into those who help form our potential president's worldview. If this man brought Obama to Christianity, he was an influence on him to one degree or another.
