John Edwards & Barack Obama went straight for the jugular in going
after Hillary. They attacked the vote on calling the Iranian Revolutionary Council a terrorist organization. Saying it will give this president the excuse he needs to
go to war with Iran.

Hillary’s inconsistent answers were exposed on social security and at the end
of the debate she agreed with New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's controversial plan to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants but then a minute later started backtracking.
Now Bill Clinton was a master at being evasive but her facial expressions and
demeanor showed she is no Bill Clinton. Will this debate change the numbers?
I don’t know.

I think what was really exposed last night was status quo positions of the front runner.
How can my party complain about the secrecy in the Bush Administration
if Hillary does not turn over all her documents? I understand it gives the other
candidates an unfair advantage, because she will be the only candidate required to
do this. But if this lack of transparency is going to stop, someone has to take
the lead. The other is lobbyist money; Hillary has out raised all the candidates of
both parties in lobbyist money from Wall Street, defense department, and insurance
and drug companies. Some might see it as success but really it business as usual.
Somehow we must have a leader to take us to public financing because these lobbyist
have too much influence.

I am getting suspicious as to why the Bush Administration is getting their way on the
latest NSA spying bill. Did the telecommunication lobbyist have something to do
with it? I don’t know.

This may sound like a slam on Hillary but it really isn’t, it just exposes some of her
weakness in a primary. Great leaders learn form mistakes and they don’t
usually repeat them. Constructive criticism will only make a person stronger.

Today, political correctness (PC) is a tool that social conservatives like to use as a license  not to offend.  They seem to blame society or the left for holding them back.

The way, the term political correctness is being used today, came about in the 1990s to downplay socials changes, when talking about race religion a gender.

In this and age, I  almost never hear Democrats, Independents, liberals or progressives use this term.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s that term was used by the new left feminist movement to mock the “anti-pornography movement” efforts to define “feminists’ sexuality”.

Labeling people and putting people into a special category is a tool of political correctness.

1.   Their opponent’s views are dismissed, because they come from a special group.

2.   Personally I think social conservatives use labels as a defense mechanism.

3.   Without labels, social conservatives would actually have to give some thought as to  describe the person they are debating.

About 10 years ago, my old company made us go to several classes on “a Matter of Respect”.  During one of these classes an old-timer asked “How do we address the new female employee” the answer, call her Janice.  The old-timer was confused over at the Ms, Mrs., and miss terms.  Political correctness prevented the old-timer from using the mannerisms he had used for ages.  Another example happened back in the 1970s, when my company hard it’s first African-American.  Same political correctness question, but with a different twist.  My coworkers specially wanted to know how we describe our new worker.  “African-American or black?”  The suitable answer was to listen to how he describes himself.

I know that people dislike political correctness ,because it makes them feel awkward, and it makes him feel like they have to accept the new social change.  They feel as though they’re losing some of their power.

The social conservatives won the political correctness battle against the Dixie Chicks  saying talking bad about their president, on foreign soil, and during time of war is down right unpatriotic. The Dixie chicks, career was nearly ruined.  Now these same social conservatives lost when they tried to label dissenters as being. Unpatriotic, so political correctness can move both ways rapidly.  Who knows, perhaps in ten years the left will use his term as a tool.

*a major portion of the facts used came from Wikipedia.

I have noticed some of the posters are echoing sentiments of the past and injecting scriptures as if to say “God is on our side” then they wonder why people call them hateful.  The other side is not any better with their in-your-face attitude.  No one likes to be forced to accept anything.  Great leaders of the past, such as Gandhi, and Dr. Martin Luther King used peaceful means to make their point.

Even though America has made great strides, we have never completely resolved our differences when it comes to race, religion and sexual orientation, leaving room for extremes on both sides to keep the pot stirring.

We have not come far from the 1800s when ads for John Adams, read” Adams and God, or Jefferson and no God”.  The very fact Mitt Romney had to make a speech to convience the American public, that his faith would not influence his presidential decisions is unbelievable.  This is the same man that said he would not let Muslims serve in his cabinet.  Well, maybe Secretary of Transportation. I thought it was a good speech, except when Romney  quoted Adams to make his point to the Evangelicals.  He misquoted Adams , “our constitution was made for a moral and religious people” because Adams separated morals and religion.  Being an intolerant and exclusionary can apply to both atheist and Christian,so if elected, Romney will have to represent all the people.

Yesterday, Mike Huckabee said.  “If a man tells me, he does not wear his religion on his sleeve, then that man has no faith”. (Sic)  That angered me, because that is being judgmental.

He can not tell me that ,the values instilled in me years ago, cannot subconsciously be the driving force of my decisions; just because I do not wear my religion on my sleeve.

There is a fear among some Christians that America is becoming too secular.  They cite the removal of prayer in school and making Roe v. Wade law as proof.  Several pundits have hyped their fear by taking isolated incidents and exaggerating them as the norm. I think America is much more multicultural now, than it was in the 1950s so the “The leave it to Beaver Christmas” is a thing of the past in some areas.  Christians make up about 80% of the population and rising, so their fears are not valid.

From time to time, extremists will try and remove God from the pledge of allegiance , from our coins and from the public domain in general.  Courts have decided with tradition every time, so they remain.  Extremist will also try to defy federal and state law, such as in the Mary Schiavo and Judge Moore case.

Religion will always be a big part of this great country, but sometimes it needs its checks and balances.

The lack of an honest dialogue is the number one reason; we cannot pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill.

The slogan “I’m for immigration, legal immigration” is a prime example.  I can say, “I am against drugs, illegal ones”.  We are all against lawbreaking, but why is this law so important?  Could we be skirting the issue?  I read an article by Douglas Mackinnon, stating he was not a xenophobe or a racist, just because he was for border control.  He went on to say he was married to a Hispanic -American, and he speaks Spanish; so did he think he had a special license and would not be judged on his writing?  Could it be Mr. Lou Dobbs and Mr. MacKinnon obsession with the southern border, saying nothing about the 6 million overstayed visas, Canada and the other 40%, that are breaking our nation’s laws? They rarely mention the companies who are violating our federal wage and labor laws.

The northern and southern border should have been sealed on September 12, 2001. Our neighbors to the north and south of us would have understood and supported us.

Border security is a priority, along with documentation.  Not much is said about the comprehension immigration bill that was turned down.  This bill had 18 months of border enforcement tactics before any talk of work visas.  Just think we would be into the 10th month of electronic surveillance, more border patrol, employer sanctions, and implementing the biometric card system for future documented immigrants.  We opted for status quo, because of the threat of amnesty.

Oh, we could close down a few packing houses and chicken processing plants.  But what will they do?  They would consolidate and be more profitable, calling for more illegal immigrants.  If you go to New Orleans and start to shut down the construction sites that are hiring illegal immigrants, you will set that devastated city way back. We must keep a close eye on the economy as we are going through this process.

We have an aging workforce and a reproduction rate of 1.2%.  The defeated comprehension reform bill, called for, an additional 140,000 immigrants.  Why do I feel that we need the 12 to 20 million undocumented workers that are living here now?

Both political parties are responsible for our broken immigration policy.  Republican support for illegal immigration is economic (donors), while those in a party that opposed illegal immigration is based cultural differences.  The Democratic support for illegal immigration is culture, and those who opposed is economic (unions).

Mike Huckabee’s immigration plan is a sample of not understanding the problem.  He seems to think that we can just tell them go home for a few days, and we we’ll reprocess them on their entry back into this country. He used the Visa credit card company way of processing their credit card applications….. Number one, the illegal immigrants would not trust our government will let them back in.  Number two, our Social Security and immigration database is a bad need of repair. Mr. Huckabee seems to think it would only take one or two days processing ,using in the Visa card method, then why send them home, process at the company site. A little bit of pandering to both sides of this issue.

I purposely left out the social benefits, because the new comprehensive immigration reform bill will address that issue.

My solutions, read and understand the proposed bill, because none of us can fully comprehend all the details that went into the comprehensive immigration bill. Then we can have an honest dialogue on illegal immigration.

The thing that upsets me the most is despite knowledge that Iran had suspended their nuclear program in 2003; this administration kept up the WWW III rhetoric.  What harm did this cause none here at home, because I genuinely think this country stopped listening to the president years ago, but Russian, China and Germany were being pressured to ratchet up sanctions on Iran?  Now that this NIE report has been released, we lose what little credibility we had worldwide.

Don’t get me wrong.  Iran is a sponsor of terror, Hezbollah is alive and well.  Iran supplied the IEDS that are killing our troops in Iraq, and they should be on a terror watch but not bombed for a non-existent nuclear weapon program.

After watching the left-leaning media bias networks, I switched over to Bill O’Reilly to get the right wing version.  O’Reilly’s guests were John Bolton and Glenn Beck.  What a credible pair…lol.  As expected, the guests were very skeptical.  O’Reilly went on to say that the Looney left and Blame America crowds were rejoicing over this news.  O’Reilly tried to carry water for this president, but as usual he was uninformed.  He said the president was just informed of this damaging report last week, but in the president’s own news conference, admitted he knew parts to this report in August.

The politics

On the Republican side, seven candidates will have to re evaluate their positions on Iran.  Ron Paul was right all along.

On the Democratic side, this will be damaging to Hillary Clinton’s because she voted for non-binding resolution making the Iranian guard a terrorist group.  Most Democrats viewed as giving this administration an excuse to go to war.  A fool me once scenario.

Now this new report is as a reverse course from the 2005 report, which indicated Iran was on his way with his nuclear program. Over to past year, officials have put into place rigious new procedures for analyzing difficult target areas such as Iran, China, North Korea and global terrorism, according to the New York Times.  After the fiasco in Iraq.  our intelligence agencies said.  “Never no more”.  Credit should also be given to Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

Jon Stewart please come back, because yesterday’s presidential news conference would make a funny skit.

Media bias is a term used to describe a real or perceived bias of journalists and news producers within the mass media.  According to Wikipedia.

Let me start with the local media, the biggest gripe I see now is the format of the Victoria advocate not their bias.  I have seen the change. The old editor would write his disclaimer at the bottom of a letter to the editor, if the facts of the letter were questionable or false.  The old editor would actually take a stance on political wedge issues such as gay marriage and federal funding of embryonic stem cells research.  I know he was a Democrat, but he took a stance.  I know the Victoria Advocate is limited to space, so I get all of my national news from other sources.  I wonder if the Victoria advocate will keep up their endorsement tradition in the upcoming election.

The mainstream media are usually perceived as ABC, CBS and NBC. Then we have the cable networks, CNN ,MSNBC, and Fox. If you listen to the conservatives that it’s all the above versus Fox.  Is it really that bad?  Rumor is, Tucker Carlson is fixing to be fired at MSNBC so, that cable channel will become totally liberal to combat Fox .This will leave CNN the swing channel.  If that becomes the case, then I will be convinced of a liberal bias in the news media.

Newspapers might be a thing of the past in 10 years. The New York Post, Washington Times and the Wall Street Journal editorial page are conceived to be conservative newspapers but their circulation numbers fall way behind perceived liberal papers such as the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and the Boston Globe. Conservatives now rely on right-leaning blogs and tak-radio.

Talk radio is not even close with conservatives dominating that media.  It is said that Rush Limbaugh has 20 million weekly listeners.  Want to agitate a conservative, just say, you think “the Fairness Doctrine” is a great thing.  :-)

I enjoy the new Victoria advocate on-line forum, because it is now more inclusive.  I enjoy the back-and-forth from my conservative opposition.  This free blog allows anyone to voice their opinions, and that’s a great thing.
