I agree, Pilot. I would say that it made me give my kid an extra hug, just because, but since I don't have a child, I will just give my dad an extra hug and tell him I love him today. Heaven knows what fathers and grandfathers do for their children is out of love, and this will never leave the grandfather's memory for the rest of his life. I wish him love and peace on today, as well as you, Rusty, and Pilot. Happy Father's day, dear dads.

Rusty.....I am no longer a hunter. Learned it and used it as a lad, but just gave it up at a point when I figured the best way to shoot 'em was with a Nikon,  and to do my gathering at H.E.B. I respect the tradition of hunting passed down from generation to generation. I detest the "trophy hunting" aspect of it. As far as this incident, only the parties involved can fully understand what happened, and whether they could have prevented it. It was without question, a tragedy and a life altering experience for the families of those involved. There is no acceptable substitute for prevention. Hopefully, some who read of this accident, and looked at their children and grandchildren on this Father's Day, were so moved by the grief that this family endures, that it is burned into their mind to a point that they will double check the safety, or wait until they are in their deer stand or duck blind to chamber up that first round. To the grandpa that was holding the rifle.........it could just as easily have been in the truck at a busy intersection. The Maker knows you were on a teaching mission of love. Learn from the experience and the pain, and teach and ensure that it doesn't happen to the next grandpa doing what you were trying to do.
