IS MSG PART OF "THE SLOW POISONING OF AMERICA"?
A website rense.com maintains that MSG is poisoning the world and that it is addictive so is added to nearly all our food in order to affect our food choices. A Canadian researcher has this assertion in his book, THE SLOW POISONING OF AMERICA.
Upon reading the information given at the link http://www.rense.com/genera... what is your evaluation of the deal? Snopes.com had no mention of the book or its content. No adverse data was presented there. We have a friend who is seriously allergic to even just a tiny bit of MSN in her food. Do you know of anyone affected by the stuff? 2 comments from 2 users

MSG is added to a lot of food because it preserves flavor and it makes you feel full. It is in almost all restaurant Chinese food; I always tell them no MSG when I order at any restaurant. Chinese food is usually not high protein thus you feel hungry shortly after you eat, thus the addition of MSG so that you feel more satisfied. MSG does cause you to retain fluid and it is not good for people with high blood pressure or any type of heart problem because it of the fluid retention. But then Salt does the same thing. I have searched online through medical journal articles and was unable to confirm any of the part about making you hungry and increasing insulin production. There are a lot of people who are allergic. I don't like it because I will gain 3 lbs after eating a meal with MSG.....just fluid but uncomfortable none the less. In all honesty there is not a single food preservative that is actually good for us and many of them may have harmful effects on children. There is a movement....a new diet program for children with behavior problems or study problems in school. The only rule is, "Do not eat anything that your grandmother would not recognize." Now that really makes sense. No pre-prepared foods...no fast foods, just basic fruits, vegetables, meat.....of course that has to be the ideal way to eat. However, as Americans....we are spoiled and would find it hard to comply. The cause of obesity in America has nothing to do with MSG.....it is the McDonald's mentality. If you want to watch a really great and very interesting movie documentary, go to the video store and rent "Supersize Me".....this guy eats nothing except McDonald's food for one month and it follows him with lab work, etc. It is astounding what fast food does to the human body. The guy went into Liver failure by week two. Then Mom who thinks she is cooking when she fixes Hamburger helper or prepared entrees from Sam's continues the poisoning at home. High fat, High sodium, High preservative. We have totally stopped all pre-prepared foods at our house.....bad family history of heart disease. It is amazing how your grocery bill drops and you do actually feel better and the doctor loves the improvement in my lab work.. I definitely do avoid MSG.....but I hardly think it is a plot like Rense would like you to believe.
