Magazine cover distasteful
It amazes me that Golfweek vice president and editor Dave Seanor finds it hard to believe that the cover of the magazines most recent edition is being met with negative reaction. The cover of Golfweek shows a photo of a noose that illustrates a story concerning the suspension of Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman for her use of the work 'lynch' when making a reference to Tiger Woods. Tilghmann was suspended for two weeks by The Golf Channel over the comment which was actually considered a non issue by Woods, who is friends with Tilghmann. To me depicting a noose on your front cover to reference the story is just as bad if not worse than having made the comment on air. 3 comments from 3 users

I'm just trying to guess why this was worthy of being put on the cover to begin with. Seriously. It was dying down, people were beginning to forget about it and move on and your response is this? Seriously? Veiled joke, outright stupidity, whatever--it was just something that shouldn't have been done. And most certainly, it should not have gotten past an editor with any ounce of common sense. Just boggles my mind what people do sometimes. Even my 11-year-old knows how to think before she says and does something that might upset someone else. What's Golfweek's excuse?

We as members of this humane society rarely behave as educated, informed creatures as seen by our word choices and our extreme insensitivity towards one another. The noose was a bit tacky when perceived by some who associate it with hurt and selective historical references. On the other hand, one individual's anger will not retract the comment or necessarily change his attitude. Honestly speaking, it is difficult to guess or even try to make an educated guess as to what the speaker meant, if his intention was to harm, or if he was simply making a slight distasteful joke - I will not know nor do I care to know. The issues are deeper for the hearers who were not there with Tiger or Kelly. I will leave this quote ... "out of the abundance of the heart a man speaks."
