Quiet before the storm
It's eerily quiet here today at the Advocate. We're all working hard to keep everyone updated through the day on our web site and with a special Ike print edition on Saturday.

The whole town is kind of quiet -- I'm wondering actually how many people are left here waiting out Ike. The traffic on the streets is down, half the town is boarded up, and there's not much to do.

So, anyone out there having a cool hurricane party? Let me know what you'll be doing to wait out Ike, and what you'll be doing through what promises to be a long, quiet weekend.

Thanks, and stay safe. As always, thanks for reading and posting.

My family and I have decided to stay and ride out Ike.  We are hoping it's not a bad storm and we don't lose electricity for long.  We've charged all the game players, got out our card games, board games and  flashlights/candles.  We hope we're ready.  I just finished taking out the dogs and heard music coming from the neighbors house along with splashing around...I'm guessing they're in the pool.  So obviously some of our neighbors have stayed too. We've been talking with my in-laws who live across town and they're waiting out Ike also.  I think most people stayed because we're supposedly on the "good" side of this storm.  We'll see how that turns out.  Just wanted you to know we're here and reading the site.  Keep up the good work of keeping us all updated on the latest news.  Thanks.  Go away Ike...Tina isn't here!
