What are you doing on November 5th?
I think it will be safe to bet that you are not doing anything out of the ordinary. Most likely you will just be living another day in your free life.
How about this November 5th you do something to ensure that your life stays free and yours – and not completely ruled by our government.
I am all for everything our Constitution stands for, but it seems that these days, not everyone is for living by the laws that were established by our forefathers. Dr. Ron Paul’s mission is to bring back the freedom we think we have. That is why he is running for president in 2008.
In case you live under a rock, here is Dr. Ron Paul in a nutshell (courtesy of his website)
Congressman Ron Paul (Texas) is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation’s capital. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the “one exception to the Gang of 535” on Capitol Hill.
Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record:
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget. He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership. He has never voted to raise congressional pay. He has never taken a government-paid junket. He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch. He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet. He voted against the Iraq war. He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year. In recent debates, Dr. Paul has clearly defined that his main goals are to return our country to a true, small government, constitutional republic and to end the war in Iraq. His also believes in the Consistent Life Ethic.
If all of the aforementioned isn’t enough to make you at least raise an eyebrow, then maybe the fact that he raised more money than anyone has in a quarter will make you a little more curious about him.
He doesn’t take big payoffs from lobbyists and most of his donations are from people like you and me. So, the 5 million dollars that he raised last quarter is a bigger accomplishment than the millions the “other” contenders get from who knows where. Another fact recently published is that he has raised the MOST money from military personnel than ANY other GOP Candidate.
Back to my original question: What are you doing on November 5th?
I ask you to visit this website, http://thisnovember5th.com/, and take a look. If you want to make a difference and you really mean it, then you have to try and support it. The website is asking all Ron Paul supporters everywhere to join together on “November 5th for the largest one day political donation event in history.”
The goal is to get 100,000 people to donate $100 each, creating a one day total of 10 million dollars. This should break any records out there, but most importantly it will give Ron Paul the monetary support he needs to win.
The Ron Paul Campaign just spent $430,000 on radio airtime for 4 states to introduce the people to Ron Paul. That paid for only two weeks. The Ron Paul in 2008 Campaign desperately needs money to fund things like commercials and radio airtime.
Personally, I can’t afford $100. I will be making a donation that won’t seriously damage my pocketbook, but nevertheless, it will be a donation towards something I deem absolutely worthy. The point is that every dollar you can donate does make a huge difference.
I urge you to visit the websites below and get yourself informed on what Ron Paul stands for. It doesn’t matter if you are a Democrat, a Republican, or one of the other parties out there, you will like what you read about him.
Until next time, dip into your Twizzler Fund, donate on November 5th, and vote for RON PAUL!
I read the latest blog entry on Your Advocate: an editor's blog a few times and then pondered what I would say before I actually commented. Maybe even now it won't come out the way I want it to - but I never promised you a real writer, either. I think that is what needs to be addressed first. Before blog entries and comments are flagged and possibly deleted, people have to remember that we are just people. Some of us are trained writers and some of us are professional writers, but most of us are just people who like to put words together and voice our opinions. I don’t have any kind of training or experience with writing outside of high school English and UIL News Writing. I actually loved it and wanted to pursue something in the field, but I joined the Army and it at went downhill from there. Then I found Xanga and was introduced to the wonderful world of blogging. Xanga.com was one of the FIRST blogging sites out there, and helped launch the “craze.” (That makes me feel so old.) With blogging and blogs came the notion that anyone can write about anything and it could be read by the masses (if they found it). Writers came out of the woodwork and people started getting famous for blogging. It is a fantastic concept, but I think that by putting strict rules on what you can and can’t write is tainting the concept of what blogging and blogs are all about. I also like to call it something else: censorship. In the particular blog entry that I am referencing, there is talk about the “duty of the journalist,” and “Members of the Society of Professional Journalists." Bloggers are not journalists. We are bloggers. Crazy as it may seem, there is a big difference. I know of bloggers who are journalists, or want to be journalists, but still – there is a difference. I am not a journalist. I don’t have to report in an unbiased way. I write what I want – when I want. That is the beauty of being a blogger and not a paid writer at a newspaper or something of the like. The cause of my irritation has to do with the proposed reasons a blog or comment may be deleted. First, a registered user or blogger has to report (flag) a comment or blog entry as offensive to them. Once flagged, the entry or comment is reviewed by an in-house ethics board at the Victoria Advocate. Here are the reasons in which comments or entries may be deleted:
It is safe to say that pornography, spam, racism, and copyright infringement are obvious reasons someone’s words should be deleted. I don’t quite understand number 2 though.
They will allow “a little more leeway online” as far as profanity goes. I think that is just asking for a can of worms to be opened. Where do you start and stop the leeway bus?
I think that socially accepted objectionable words should not be allowed. You can’t really get across an intelligent point talking like a sailor, in my opinion anyway. As far as it not being a family newspaper – I know plenty of under 18 teens/kids who read the Advocate Online.
So… that one may backfire on you. That just leaves us with number 3. I want to say this is a surprise, but I would be faking it. It is no secret that I have declared war on certain establishments in My question is this: If I write about a bad experience and tell people not to frequent the establishment anymore, will my entry be deemed offensive and deleted? Most blog entries are about experiences of one’s own life. Most of my blog entries are about the sad state of customer service in our town. I have made big name restaurants pretty upset, but I have never deviated from the truth either. As they say, the truth hurts. Where will the in-house ethics board draw the line? Will they be pressured from business owners who don’t want bad feedback or will the board delete only obvious false accusations and made up stories? Will pictures and names of offenders be deemed offensive and considered an "unfair attack against an individual?" I am all for rules and regulations. Contrary to what some believe, sensitive people and children/kids/tweens/teens read the Advocate Online, the blogs, and discussion forums.
Rules need to be in place. However, if I take a picture of a manager at a fast food place who is paid to service me, and instead calls me a female dog, and then post it here telling of the events – will that entry be deleted? I want to know how far this proposed “rule” goes and how far the ethics board will take it when discussing whether to delete blogs.
What do you guys think? Most of all, Chris Cobler, what does this proposal mean to the people who want to bring to light the ever increasing problem of bad service in Victoria? I want answers… and Twizzlers. Also – can we please do something about the whole “type in this code to submit a comment” and the “you have to log in every 5 minutes” thing. kthxbi.
.
A little birdie told me that Wal-Mart has once again fallen into the dark abyss that is horrendous customer service. I have written quite a few blogs about customer service in Victoria, and not surprisingly I have gotten tremendous feedback about similar experiences people have had.
I usually post pictures and names, but I did not have my camera, and the girl in question was not wearing a name tag. Tsk, tsk on you Wal-Mart. I’m pretty sure that is a direct violation of Wal-Mart’s policies.
Anyway, a woman named Linda checked out at Aisle 15 at Wal-Mart on Sunday afternoon. She purchased some nicotine gum and a few veggies. Once Linda got to her car, she noticed that the $40 gum is not in her bag. After a short trek back to aforementioned check out, she asks the checker if her gum is still there, because it wasn’t in her bag.
Almost too suddenly, and without checking to see if the gum was left, the checker tells Linda that she remembers personally handing her the merchandise, and that it must have gotten lost along the way.
Linda asks politely if the checker could take a look around her station to see if she had forgotten it. The checker gets irritated and tells Linda, with a sort of finality in her voice, that she gave her the gum.
Linda explains to the checker that the gum was not in with her things, and that perhaps the woman handed it to the customer who was in line behind her. This angers the checker even more at this point and she tells Linda, all too loudly, that she will have the security “people” look at the tapes to prove she handed the gum to her.
Linda is self-employed as a sales manager in the healthcare field to over 200 agents in South Texas, and as the checker explains the situation to her lurking superior, all sorts of would-be prospective clients are hanging on to every word being said. One would think that this could be classified as defamation of character, because at that very moment, would-be prospective clients were being led to believe that Linda was a thief.
As the checker and her superior further discuss with Linda (in a very non-personal volume) that they believe she has the gum and is being untruthful about its loss to get another pack for free, a woman walked up to them.
The woman just happened to be the person directly behind Linda in line, and she had a $40 pack of nicotine gum in her hands. She told the checker that she had somehow gotten nicotine gum in her bag, and she was bringing it back because she was sure someone was missing it by now.
After an awkward stillness, the checker crisply took the gum from the honest woman and gave it to Linda. The checker returned to her station (Aisle 15), the superior walked away, and Linda was left standing with her gum, and without a single word uttered her way.
I am happy that everything was righted in the end, but I do think that something that resembled an apology should have been given to Linda, at least by the superior and definitely by the snotty checker.
Wake-up Wal-Mart.
People don’t like to be treated like criminals in front of their neighbors and peers, and they certainly don’t like being wronged without an apology. HEB is pretty far for me to drive for my weekly grocery trip, and their prices are a little higher, but there is only so much rudeness one can take. Remember that I am one person, but I am positive that more than one person will read this, and more than a few people are tired of the growing trend that is BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE.
This isn’t the first time your employees have shown they lack the most basic manners, and if this continues with no change – I will continue to report it. (I won’t forget my camera next time…)
In other news, I just noticed that all of my old blog entries have found their way home. I don’t know exactly who is responsible, but thanks!
If you are a little confused, here’s the lowdown: There used to be a blog section on the old version of the Victoria Advocate and I was one of the people who had a blog there. When the re-vamp took place all of old blogs were missing. Now they are here.
Yay.
If you have a few minutes (days, even), you can read my archive. I have been blogging since early 2006 and it has been a bumpy (REAL bumpy) ride. It would probably explain the Twizzler obsession as well…
I miss my regular readers though. Maybe they all turned into lurkers, or I got lost in the onslaught of new blogs. Either way – I miss you guys, comment already!
Until next time, keep an eye out for Aisle 15 at Wal-Mart and or get your Twizzlers from HEB.
I don’t like this fact, but it is true: I don’t know a lot about politics.
I hate it when people (who are well versed) start discussing it and I end up feeling like an idiot if I throw my two cents in. For this reason, I have decided to try and understand a little more this “go around.”
If you have read anything I have ever written, then you know I don’t hide much. I let it be known how I feel about tough issues, and I rarely care if my opinion is that of the minority. Keeping that in mind, I decided to post something about the person I plan on voting for… so far.
I know it is early, but that just means the other candidates have that much more time to get my vote.
I personally believe that America is hanging on the edge of this huge mountain. We are about to tip over and fall flat on our faces in some areas, and I haven’t quite decided if we should fall and build ourselves back up, or if we should try and get away from that edge.
I vote Republican (there, I said it). Big surprise. I was a little disappointed early on because I didn’t see anyone in the running that I could agree with on most of their issues. I know you aren’t going to find someone you back 100%, so I always pick the one that I can back the most.
That person so far is Ron Paul.
Like I said, I can’t stand behind any one person 100% at this point, but I can say that I stand behind him at least 90%. He is by far the front runner in my mind (and most polls). I agree with most everything, and the other things I think are iffy I have decided I could live with (if those things ever even came to pass with our Congress now).
There has been a huge debate by the news channels as to whether Ron Paul is a front runner. I have heard a lot of newscasters claim that his “people” are rigging the polls somehow, and voting for him over and over making him appear to be the front runner.
Seriously.
For example, Fox News had a debate and shortly afterwards there was Ron Paul, voted as the winner of the debate on the Fox News website. Of course, the commentators there said that his “people” rigged it, and kept calling in and voting. I think what most of them forgot was that it was clearly stated on the website (and during the debate, I believe) that you could only call in and vote once. They kept record of your phone number and if you tried to call in more than once, it would tell you that you have already voted.
So, explain to me just how did his “people” rig that?
Moreover, if they did rig it, then doesn’t that say something for Ron Paul? I think it says that his supporters are so dedicated that they have the passion to do such a thing.
Regardless, he has my vote right now.
Speaking of voting, I have read that in many states, in an effort to shut out Ron Paul, are now closing their primaries. That means that only Republicans can vote in the Presidential primaries for a Republican candidate.
To clarify a bit: If you are not registered as a Republican or Democrat (or whatever) on your Voter's Registration card, you won't be able to vote in the primaries. Again, I am not 100% sure, but I have read that many states are doing this quickly and quietly and giving people very little time to learn about the new rules.
For example, New Hampshire decided only a week ago that you will now have to change your party affiliation by October 12, 2007 or it will be too late to do so.
I don’t know if this is 100% true, but it sounds like an effective way to accomplish what they claim. I re-registered to be on the safe side, and I recommend you do the same, just in case.
Register Republican NOW! Well, that s if you want. If you are a Democrat – Register Democrat now!
(I had more exclamation marks at the end of that, but then a little birdie told me that it is annoying and useless to use too many)
So, until next time, munch on some Twizzlers and watch the little You Tube video to the left. For those of you that know me: don’t replay it too many times. You aren’t hearing things.
Yes, I have rethought some of my views. It happens.
Where, oh where, could it be? My blog has been kidnapped. I went to login to update the chaos that is my life, and I was redirected to this new and funky (blue, too!) place. I’m not completely sure what exactly is going on, and I am not completely sure if I like it, but I am completely sure I will give it a go. I really miss my old blog entries, and I wonder where they went, but I will deal with it for the moment. I guess the first thing on the menu is an introduction for those who are wondering who in the H-E-double hockey sticks I am. Well, my name is Toni. I live in Victoria and I am 28 years old. I am a personal slave for a living, and I work with no salary. I work 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week. I am employed by three men – my husband, my 3 year old son, and my 6 month old son. , I am notorious for blogging about anything and everything. I am not afraid to voice my opinions and I usually say what I feel. If you have read my other blogs, then you know exactly what I stand for and what I am about. It sounds generic, but that is the best way to describe it. I am not sure where my archives are from my old blog, but if you are really itching to read them, I cross-posted here – http://www.xanga.com/tonian... . Anyway, onto the good stuff: I will be posting here as regular as I can. I will talk about things you won’t read anywhere else. I will post evidence (pictures, videos) of the trials and tribulations I blog (gripe, rant) about. And most of all – I will have fun doing it. For example: if you have ever heard the words, “Boycott Tejas” uttered – that was me. I guess this is all for now, I just thought I would post something in response to the fact that my whole other Victoria Advocate Blog Section has been kidnapped. It is gone and so my old archived posts and that sucks. I have some choice words for a certain eating establishment in Victoria, but that is another blog for another night. It is late, my Diet Pepsi is all gone, and I am in need of good quality sleep. So, until next time, don’t forget that they DO make sugar-free Twizzlers. |
