PICK UP THE TRASH!
To the City of Victoria, if you want to keep Victoria beautiful, how about starting by picking up the trash on the days it is scheduled to be picked up? My area's scheduled pickups are on Tuesday and Friday. Last Tuesday you did not pick up the trash. It wasn't picked up until Wednesday afternoon. We all put our trash out again on Friday and it's all still sitting there. Been out there all weekend. We've been adding to it and now you've got twice as much to pick up. I suppose you'll wait for the scheduled pickup day of Tuesday. How can you think that going to once-a-week pickup will make Victoria beautiful? Two days a week aren't even enough, especially when you don't pick it up. By the way, if you have changed our scheduled days for pickup, it might be a good idea to let us know! 5 comments from 5 users

I HATE this new trash debacle. We have so much trash stacked in our garage it is ridiculous. That trash can is not big enough and one day a week pickup is OUTRAGEOUS. It is $5 a MONTH for another can. We are just a family of four - two of which are under 4 years old. I can't imagine the problems that bigger families are having! posted by

This is the first time our neighborhood has had this problem, and they didn't miss picking up the trash once last week, but twice. It's not typical at all. We have two trash cans outside, no yard trimmings or "improper" items, just plain old trash. When they finally do come around to pick it up they will run into overtime because it will take longer it all up. The problem here is that the city will "control" costs by limiting manpower and hours worked. That means jobs will be lost. I can't help but feel my trash isn't being picked up because the workers are trying to make the statement that instead of going to once-a-week pickup, they need more help. We never had this problem before. Like I said, they didn't miss the trash once, but twice and we are now piling up trash for the next pick up -- if there is one. I don't mind getting on the side of working people, I just hope they don't forget my block. posted by

I've lived here 7 years, and can't say I've ever had this problem. In fact, I've always been surprised that the men go to the extremes to pick up EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING that my neigbors leave out. On windy days, I've seen them chasing trash across the streets and yards beyond several feet. I've lived in several communities that have not had this kind of service. I've experienced missed days, "improper" items left uncollected, excessive trash left partially collected, and yard trimmings ignored completely. But not in Victoria. The new service concerns me. I'm afraid the level of service will drop and the cost will rise (how much will a second can cost?, what if you have more than one can? Will they charge for this?). But I don't fault the city for trying to control costs and still provide the service.
