Dallas Cowboys: Will this be the year?

Too bad this upcoming season isn't played on paper.

You could chalk Dallas up with another Super Bowl win.

But then again, if seasons were hand-drawn before they were played, Dallas wouldn't have lost in the playoffs the way it did during the last two seasons.

I could detail Tony Romo's botched hold against Seattle two years ago, and the unexplainable loss to the Giants last year at home.

But being a Cowboys fan is painful enough these days.

Can Big D make it this season to the Super Bowl? Heck, can Dallas win a playoff game this year?

Not in more than a decade has it done either. That's a long time to go, as a die hard fan, without either, especially because my early years were filled with Dallas trophies and dominance.

On paper, the team is better than it was last year. Most of the team's holes -- outside of receiver, if you consider it to be lacking at depth -- are filled.

Dallas should be a force in the NFC. You'd be hard-pressed to think the team won't at least earn a Wild Card spot in the playoffs.

Sadly, though -- with this team's talent -- one or two playoff wins won't be enough to end the drought the fans are in.

What will it take for Dallas to make it to the big show?

Jessica Simpson theorists need not apply.

Hard knocks, just about the Cowboys this year? Couldn't it be used to describe the past several years? I am looking forward to another year of underachieving from America's Team.

Go Broncos!

Good to hear from you, VietnamVet.

I agree that the offense is well set. I'm curious to see how Marion Barber does as the starter and how Felix Jones will fill in as the speedy second punch.

As for the defense, I thought, too, that we'd have guys flying at quarterbacks like Phillips had guys attacking in San Diego. We don't get a lot of push up the middle and Demarcus Ware gets doubled too often.

Hopefully Pacman -- um, Adam Jones -- will allow Newman to man up on one side, for Jones to man up on the other and for Roy Williams to blitz more. In those packages Anthony Henry could be moved to Williams' spot.

It'll be interesting. I'm looking forward to HBO's "Hard Knocks," which is about the Cowboys this year.

My thinking is that the 'Boys offense is pretty well set.  I still there are questions on defense, one being Roy Williams.  At the same time, I'm still not too impressed with the 3-4 defense.  We need more pressure on the QB.  Special teams need a little revamping, too.

I'd love to see the 'Boys play the SB in their own stadium.
