I recently received an email from Finish Line offering me a discount on a new pair of Nikes that are due to come out in July (on the 13th to be exact). The offer stated if I responded before the big premier of said shoes I would get the $30 cheaper than when they come out in stores. I was curious what the big deal was about these shoes that they need such an introduction as this. I checked out
this website and must say it was pretty impressive. Probably more impressive to me as running is one of my passions. (Hopefully I can get back to it soon.)
Get to know Nike + iPod Sport Kit
Tune
Insert the wireless sensor inside the custom, built-in pocket beneath the insole of your Nike+ shoe, then plug the receiver into the Dock connector on your iPod nano.
Run
Now start your workout. As your run or walk, the sensor sends information to your iPod nano, tracking your time, distance, pace, and calories burned. If you choose, real-time, spoken feedback can even alert you to milestones throughout your workout.
Sync
Back at your computer, sync your iPod nano to transfer your workout data to iTunes and nikeplus.com. There, you can evaluate your performance history, set goals, and even challenge other runners to a virtual race.
The cost of the product(s) was a bit steep for me thought.
Shoes: $130
iPod Sport Kit: $30
iPod Nano: 1 GB-240 songs $149
2 GB-500 songs $199
4 GB-1000 songs $249
Total cost: $309 (with 1GB iPod) plus shipping
After all of the upfront costs, the sensors battery is not replaceable so the whole thing must be replaced. As stated on the website, battery life will vary considerably based on use and other factors.
I think Ill hold off and see how the price drops after they have been out for a while.
