Advice needed on childrens' laws.

If a child is 17 and has been living with someone else(for over 4 months) besides either parent will a officer make the 17 year old return to there parents home if the parents suddenly decide they want there child at home?

Even with a job,in school, and taking care of one's self?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Romak, are you a glorified expert.   Ive raised 3 daughters, one step son, and five foster daughters and Id beg to differ, especially this day and age.

Darlins, you CAN report a 17 year old as a runaway, however, as soon as you become aware of where you child is, law enforcement will no longer continue to search for them. But with a 17 year old, you should really be more in control of the child than they are of you.

No. At 17 if the parent knows where the 17 year old is staying law enforcement will not force the child to go home.

I empathize with this situation.  I have a 17 year old who is really giving me fits!  She is at home with me most of the time, but comes and goes as she pleases and has absolutely no respect for me whatsoever.

I am not sure whether or not you can even report them as a runaway or get assistance from law enforcement at 17.  What I would do in this instance would be to call the non-emergency number at the police department and speak with an officer.  They may be able to tell you more.  Either that or I know that Steven Kidder gives a free 30 minute consultation.  He has a website also, and does answer email questions.  It may take a day or two but he does answer.

Good luck and do not hesitate to contact me if you need a shoulder!
