Facts NOT OPINIONS re: Mingomaniac's post re: MHS major
After my initial shock and anger over the heartless malignment of a high school student, I am tremendously sad and disappointed in a fellow adult. MHS drill team major, Miss Johnston will graduate in the top two percent (2%) of her class, was accepted early into the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas in Austin where she will attend this fall, led the tremendously talented Victoriadores to their first EVER international win in competition and is actively involved in community projects too numerous to list here. She has accomplished these achievements through dedication and hard work that comes from her heart. Above all, she has a generous soul and is never too busy to help others, be it tutoring a friend struggling with school work, coaching a dancer or lending her kind support and sweet smile to someone who is gravely ill. Miss Johnson is a shining example of putting God first, others second and one's self last. I find it disconcerting at the very least that someone not even acquainted with her should be so aware of her comings and goings. Miss Johnston is respectful of rules at all times and if she is about during the day, she has permission. It is disturbing that someone who does not know her feels entitled to an explanation of her whereabouts. I assure you, you are not. It is our responsibility as adults to guide and encourage our young people, from the highest achiever to the one who struggles every day. We should be proud of their successes, lift them up when they fail and always ALWAYS encourage them to realize their potential. That is the role of a productive positive citizen, taxpayer and adult. Casting criticisms about and obsessing over the whereabouts of someone else's child (said some one being an amazing parent) is not. She owes you no explanation and certainly no one intends to give this nonsense another thought. Please check your facts in the future and on that note, I sincerely hope you find it in your heart to be positive toward young people and spend your time building them up, they are our future, they are your future.

I know officers from several years of previous classes. I can count on one hand the ones that haven't gone on to make something of themselves. Most people that are saying all these negative things about the drill team are focusing on individual actions and not activities that drill teams encourage. I'm not going to go out and say that football teams are horrible and should be disbanded because a player or two stole something or whatever. U. of Texas would have no team! Somebody commented that Majormoms daughter was seen cutting class and driving around town or something. Imagine that. A teenager cut class. That's never happened. Good people just don't do that. Good people never call in sick to work when they're not. Maybe those people that do were on drill team...Oh my God..maybe I was on drill team which is why I'm typing on this message board instead of at work! Oh wait...I'm male.

Classes are offered at both campuses. The major does lead the team. Yes, there are choreographers brought in that help the girls. This is high school and it is a class. The choreographers work with the officers and the girls to teach them new skills both in dance and in choreography. Her picture has been in the paper which would account for knowing what she looks like. These girls are high school students and are not perfect, nor should they be expected to be. They will make mistakes, just like you did in high school and will hopefully learn from them. I am sure that the major is an outstanding young lady and if the best you can do in a public forum is bash a high school kid, you need to take a long, hard look at the type of person you are. Maybe you are angry because you or your child did not make the team, but that is no reason to try to hurt others.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I'm jumping in anyway. I am sure that this young lady is everything that you say she is, but I am a bit confused-- She will be graduating in May and going to college in the fall. Since you say she led the Victoriadores to their National Championship, can I guess that it has taken her over 8 years to complete high school? Or do I just believe that no matter how shining an example she is, etc., she refuses to accept the dictates of the people that lead HER school district, and YOU support her in her defiance?

Again, I must say..........the rest of the world doesn't really care about the little pissing match you hillbillies are playing out in this city newspaper. Work it out people. Don't humiliate the rest of the people who post here with your crayons and butcher paper. Do you not notice that there is a "contact bubba/bubbette" (to put it in simple terms - it is the "send a message" icon) feature here? Dear Abby, dear Abby, my fountain pen leaks........my wife hollers at me and my kids are all freaks........... posted by

I dont have anything against the girl. Im sure she is everything you say she is. What I do know is this: #1 She does leave campus during the day and drive around town in her car at different times of the day. #2. Dual Credit classes are offered on MHS campus, as per my conversation this morning with Victoria College. I seem to strike a nerve when I speak the truth on here. Everyone wants to say that I dont have all the facts. I am entertaining the idea of paying for an attorney for one of the students who is being hazed so we will see who is telling the truth with court testimony. posted by

Pilot - chill dude-- Majormom has a valid reason for posting in the blogs: The thread where this subject was originally started, was shut down this afternoon by the Advocate. And I am glad, but I understand Majormom wanting to clear her daughter's name. Majormom, I wouldn't worry too much about what mingomaniac said about your daughter. Those who matter, those who know your daughter know the truth. Mingo has some serious issues with the Dance and Drill Team. Be proud of your daughter, Majormom! She sounds like the type of daughter every mom would want! God Bless! posted by
