Last Abortion Clinic in So. Dakota Closes after New Law Requires Recognition of the Humanity of the Child

Great news on the pro-life front recently, as the last abortion clinic in the entire state of South Dakota closed its doors after a new law came into effect which calls for the patient to be informed of the humanity of the child and possible side affects of the abortion. Here is the article from Lifesitenews.com:

"Last Abortion Clinic in South Dakota Closes after Law Requires Patients be Informed of Possible Side Effects

SIOUX FALLS, SD, July 24, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - On Monday, July 21, eight women arrived at the Planned Parenthood office in Sioux Falls in South Dakota for abortions, but were instead met with locked doors and a hand-written note indicating the only abortion clinic in South Dakota was closed.

Planned Parenthood closed its doors after their abortionists, who are flown in from other states, refused to work under the new law that went into effect last Friday. The law orders abortionists to inform patients of the humanity of their babies and that the procedure could affect their mental health two hours before the abortion is set to be performed. The law also provides that abortionists can be sued if they do not comply.

This law was the brain-child of attorney Harold Cassidy and passed with the help of determined pro-life leaders Dr. Alan and Leslee Unruh, who pushed for the regulation in the face of opposition, even from some in the pro-life movement. The Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals cleared the way for the law's enactment last week.

It remains unclear if the Planned Parenthood office has permanently ceased the practice of abortion. However, several women who were scheduled for abortions this week went to a pro-life center instead, where some have reportedly changed their minds about having abortions.

'The closing of this clinic is historic in that South Dakota is, for the time being, the first abortion-free state,' said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. 'It didn't take the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and it didn't take a new President or a new Supreme Court. It took the courageous determination of pro-life heroes like Mr. Cassidy and the Unruhs who saw an opportunity to save lives and pressed on until their dream became victory.'

'We applaud their efforts and encourage other states to emulate their campaign,' said Newman.

The Unruhs are currently involved in the Vote Yes For Life Campaign, which would effectively ban abortions in South Dakota, putting the finishing nail in the coffin of the abortion industry there.

So Freethinker,

If you had a friend who was pro-choice on slavery- saying I would never own a slave but don't mind if others choose to own slaves, would you say your friend was not for slavery?

The slaves would. Because that wishy-washy, fail to take a position allows slavery to exist.

Pro- choice on abortion means that babies die- just as pro-choice on slavery means we still have slaves.

Back alleys? You're showing your age here. Women are going to back-alley abortionists NOW with legal abortion. Last year in Texas a girl had her boyfriend stomp on her belly to kill their 6-month gestation twins. They did kill them, and he's in jail.

Either way the baby is dead. Back alley abortion scares are what Dr. Bernard Nathanson talks about, and it just ain't so to the degree you would like it to be. 50 million dead babies since Roe v. Wade hardly compares to women's deaths during dirty abortions.

Besides, don't you know of the LEGAL abortion clinics today that are closed down regularly because of substandard practices? Abortion clinics are not even regulated by law!

Respect the conscience of the woman? No, I'll do that as she makes the choice whether or not to conceive. Most abortions today are for convenience, not for the health and certainly not for the life of the mother.

The child has rights as well, as Connor Peterson's dad Scot sits in jail for murdering his wife AND his 8-month gestation son. American laws just need to keep up with the full human rights  of the child, not just the "wanted" children.

I'm glad your mother didn't abort you, or try to, to my knowledge.

First of all people are not pro-abortion. Some people are for a woman's right to choose. Don't be decieved by the anti-abortionist faulty science and trying to change the word of the law. Take away legal abortion and it will drive women into back alleys where there will really be a lot of botched abortions!!! And if you go to the Center for Disease website and look up abortion you will find that a legal abortion is safer than delievering a child. Women seeking abortion are operating according to "their" consciences. Many women wrestle with the abortion decision. Whether it is concern over their ability to be a good mother at the present time or in their present circumstances, concern for their existing family or worries about their health or financial security, women bring their own conscience and moral judgement into decisions about abortion. Good women have decided for and against having an abortion. No one decision can be right for every women. I think the conscience of the women choosing to have the abortion should be respected by the law, medical professionals and health-care institutions.

Freethinker, you've been bamboozled by the great dark lie: death is the answer.

As part of that set of lies, you've been told this huge inaccuracy that abortion is SAFER than giving birth. Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a co-founder of NARAL, said that the abortion industry has LIED continually about the numbers of women who died from abortions. He ought to know, before his conversion, he was one of the liars:

"On July 9, 2008, CFRB talk show host, Spider Jones, interviewed former abortionist Dr. Bernard Nathanson about his past involvement in the abortion movement and his conversion to the pro-life viewpoint.

At one time Nathanson was deeply entrenched in the American pro-abortion movement, having co-founded the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) and overseen 75,000 abortions as director of an abortion clinic. During the CFRB program Nathanson recalled the deceitful and dishonest tactics that he and NARAL relied upon to push for the legalization and acceptance of abortion.

"We claimed that between five and ten thousand women a year died of botched abortions," he said. "The actual figure was closer to 200 to 300 and we also claimed that there were a million illegal abortions a year in the United States and the actual figure was close to 200,000. So, we were guilty of massive deception."

"I mean as a founding member and chairman of the medical committee, I accepted the figures which came from a biostatistician named Christopher Tietze and he and his wife passed along these figures to us at NARAL. We were in no position to validate them or not, so we accepted them in the interests of higher standards, or at least higher objectives," he explained.

Nathanson's conversion to the pro-life movement was sparked by the advent of the ultrasound machine in the early 1970s.  He related how his heart was moved to realize that a fetus is in fact a human being after he watched an unborn baby recoil from a vacuum abortion device before being sucked from its mother's womb. "

BTW, you forget to mention that abortion in 99% fatal for most babies, though some real traumatized infants do make it. If you want to know about some of those children who survived abortion and are now pro-lifers, let me know.

I don't see this as a good thing at all. If they want "full closure" to people that are having abortions then they need tell anyone that is carrying to term that they are three times as many deaths as having an abortion. Just the facts from the CDC. This is all a loop-hole some pro-lifer lawyer found by changing a word in the law. It will bring about even more lawsuits I imagine. How sad that the people of South Dakota want doctors to say things that are not true. Whatever you think about abortion, how is that a good thing?
