I am concerned about a comment Dr. Jaynes made about the discipline problem in our VISD schools. I would venture to say discipline is an ongoing problem in most of the schools in our country. This is a problem of our evolving society. He says he has delivered over 4,000 babies. I am sure he has noticed in his career that we are not in the "Leave It to Beaver" generation. He has probably seen all kinds of single mothers, non caring fathers, teenage mothers(he narrated on a recent news special about teenage mothers) and other situations not prevalent 20 years ago or even 5 years ago. The current VISD discipline policy is probably not perfect. However the current administrators and board are constantly reviewing the policies to make changes and improve the policies to benefit the learning environment. I believe Mr. Crockett is the best thing that has happened to Memorial and that Mr. Moore has put our district in a positive direction. For Dr. Jaynes to imply that changing the administration is the solution to the discipline problem is really reaching. He can walk the halls like he said he would do, but that will not correct all the societal issues that cause these problems. I have faith in the "current board and administration" that are constantly reviewing and improving discipline policies in addition to the many other positive impacts they have made on our community. Maybe we should think about having our doctors who deliver babies into difficult situations promote parenting classes. This might be a solution in the beginning that could benefit children in the long run.
