Still adjusting
I have now been in Victoria for about two and a half months and I’m starting to get a feel for the area. I can get to where I need to go without getting lost…well sometimes. Anyhow, I’ve come to the conclusion that not knowing my way around most of Victoria is my own fault. I leave any chance I get. Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with the area; I just seem to miss my family and friends. You’d think my years in Kingsville would have prepped me, but for some reason as soon as Friday rolls around I’m filling up my gas tank and driving home or to Kingsville, it’s closer. I see it as kind of running away. I’m prescribing myself a weekend in Victoria; however, it might not be this weekend but may be the weekend after. 11 comments from 9 users

Welcome to V-town. When I moved here several years ago, I always seemed to get lost. My co-workers laughed at me because I would get turned around on the way to CMC. It seems I am starting to get the hang of it, finally. So, don't give up and do give yourself a Victoria weekend to scout around town. Good Luck to you!!! See ya on Navarro....haha posted by

1. The most important thing to remember about driving Victoria is that the roads do not always run north south east west. 2. Sam Houston and Houston Hwy are not the same thing. 3. Houston Hwy and Rio Grande are the same street but at different sides of town. 4. Houston Hwy, Bloomington Hwy, Cuero Hwy all have other names.... 5. You can hit a deer with your car on N. Ben Jordan between Sam Houston and John Stockbauer (just ask my son) 6. When it rains hard, get off the road until about 15 minutes after it stops - or your car may float. 7. Never drive down Ben Wilson between Red River and Memorial High School during a rain. Anybody else have some words of wisdom for this young lady about driving Vic? posted by

Why are you here? I'm not being nosey. Okay, I am. But It might help some of us steer you toward some proper entertainment venues. Not me, mind you. I'm too old now to know of happening places, unless you like to drink coffee and discuss things. In that case, let me suggest Hastings Books. Has its own coffee bar. And I would be overjoyed to discuss history, Mark Twain, Shakespeare, British Romantic or Harlem Renaissance poetry. I'm just sayin', as the saying goes. As for directions, allow me to give you the benefit of my experience delivering a lot of pizza. Think of Main and Constitution as the zero-point of the X-Y axes. Let X represent Constitution and Y represent Main. The numbers increase as you move along the axes. There are Avenues C, D and E. I have yet to see an avenue A or B. Maybe they were paved over to make room for a store that was paved over for another store. And don't ask me for any help with those neighborhoods north of Sam Houston and Stockbauer. They have rules of their own. North, South, East and West streets form the boundary of Old Victoria, I believe. East street is like a dotted line. West is scenic, North will get you from one end of town to another on the south side. (Ironic, isn't it?) posted by
