WHERE DO THE LIDS GO?

As far as I know Mrs. Rusty empties the leftovers out of the plastic storage containers, puts the plastics in the dishwasher. When they're dry she puts'em in the cabinet. The next time we go to store something the containers are there but NO LIDS to match'em can be found. Where did they go?

Ever hear of plastic lid eating termites? Any other ideas? Is our house the only place this happens?
