FOLKS MURYJO seems to have thrown down the gauntlet. First of all, she besmirched our Astros and then she insinuated that Beevo was a FAT COW. Why else would you boil down a bovine except to get enough "taller" to make candles? Or, maybe to waterproof their boots (better not leave them out for the dogs to chew up (of course, even the "taller" from Beevo might be too tough to chew.)
Muryjo had this to say September 27, 2006 - Posted at 12:12 pm Who really cares about them or baseball right now(the Astros IS a baseball team, isn't it?) The real question is what will the SOONERS be ranked after Oct. 7, when they hog tie and boil the longhorns for lunch?? MURYJO: That must have been a "powerful" team the Sooners barely squeaked by last week. Who was their foe, the Middle Tennessee Mugwhumps or the Mudpuppies? Just for you, we started this blog about the "Crimson and CRUMBS" (maybe that'll stir up some more OU fans). As bad as I hate to admit it, there are some blood relations infected with the malady which makes them think that Bob Stoops hung the moon. Bud Wilkinson maybe, but not stoops? Thanks for writing, RUSTY
How many of you are proud of our wizards in Washington, DC for their briliance in creating the DONUT HOLE in Plan D?
For those of you who don't know what I mean, the Donut Hole starts when the total of what you've paid plus what your plan has paid equals or exceeds $2,250.00. Unless you have high dollar Rx coverage, you'll have to pay 100% of your next meds cost until you have PAID $3,600.00 OUT OF YOUR POCKET. Rusty thought he figured it pretty close without going into the hole until the drs increased and added some more Rxs. MILLIONS OF U.S. SENIORS ARE IN THE HOLE.For more details check http://www.washingtonpost.c... target='_blank'>HERE
How many of you medicare plan D folks have fallen into the DONUT HOLE with your Rxs? What are you going to do when that happens?
According to my Humana projected Rx costs for the rest of the year, we'll have to cough up $2,422 if we get all the meds I've (mama hasn't been in the program yet) been taking. My cardiologist and my shrink are going to really be chapped when I tell them that I'm not taking anything but my generic BP pills until January. If my not taking the heart meds just prescribed is life threatening, so be it.
A tip of the Rusty Bucket Lid to the National Wild Turkey Federation chapter and TPWD personnel assisting disabled anglers at the Cuero city park for the catfish fishing day Saturday. The event coincided with National Hunting & Fishing Day observances around the country.
The Lonesome Dove blowout at Karnes City was another NHF DAY observance. Why is it a place the size of Victoria has no organization interested enough in promoting our national outdoor heritage among our youth who will be our future leaders?
Should congress be using our medicines, especially for our senior citizens, as a political football?
Should the Homeland Security gestapo agents be confiscating lower priced drugs seniors order and/or bring back from Canada? Shouldn't they be rounding up the illegal aliens like the guy in Houston who had been deported for child molestation several years ago? He was back here and killed a policeman on a routine traffic stop yesterday.
How many of you ever attended or witnessed an old fashioned barn rasing? For the sake of any who may not know the term, who'll explain for them? Thanks.
Do big expensive funerals really honor the deceased or are they a bunch of baloney?
How about those folks making a big show of grieving when they hadn't treated the deceased right for years? Some have tried to convince Rusty that creamations "aren't Christian". What do you say? My mom wants to have a say in my burial so I can "be with our family in Morman heaven." "If you were crematred you couldn't do that." Mom, I hate to argue with you but if my God can raise me from the dead, who says he has to have an entire carcasas to do it with? What happens to those people who have lost a limb or have been blown up? What do you folks say to this?
Rusty was really impressed Wednesday at the Boys & Girls Club. While waiting for a chance to visit with Dwayne Bennett Rusty sat on a bench watching the kids play pool and ping pong. Those energetic kids, up to probably the sixth grade, were a typical ethnic mix of the area. They were very cooperative with each other. At the pool table, after taking their shots, they quietly handed the cue across the table to the other player. If us adults could always get along that well. Haley and Lucy said they'd send me some stories. A new name to me was Amalia. She had an infectious smile.
GARON sent this report by a vet who experienced his first case of raisin toxicity to a dog which was finally euthanized. The link is to the snopes.com confirmation http://www.snopes.com/critt... target='_blank'>HERE
Should we ask Doug Cochran and/or O. C. Garza if there's any chance that someone can figure out a way for taking nursing home residents and/or disabled folks fishing on Saturday September 23rd at the Ethyl Lee Tracy Park? Isn't the city parks department planning to dump some 600 pounds of catfish in the pond there for the event?
Have you any suggestions? I haven't checked it out with TPWD but have been told by long time nursing home workers that residents of nursing homes don't need fishing licenses in Texas. Is that true? ******** CORRECTION RUSTY had to backtrack on telling Geezer he was right about Texans 65 and over don't need fishing license. INCORRECT, TPWD has changed the regulations and EVERYONE 17 years and older and born AFTER Sept. 1, 1930 has to BUY a fishing license. There are exceptions for the legally blind and people with mental afflictions who have documentation on their person and are being supervised by a designated representative of the mental care facility where they stay. They also have to be fishing as a medically prescribed activity. READ THE REGULATIONS ON THIS TO BE CERTAIN OF THE REGULATIONS. A SPECIAL Resident Freshwater Fishing package costs $11.00; A Special Saltwater Fishing package costs $16.00, and a Special All Water Fishing package is $21.00. SUGAR MAGNOLIA had a good idea, and had this to say September 13, 2006 - Posted at 10:39 pm One suggestion - ask the student activities directors at VC and UH-V if any of the student organizations would like to get involved with transportation and spending time fishing. The schools can lend vans to the student orgs. and the students love to volunteer and help out. See if some students will be amenable to this. Bet they would love to. URGENT Can any of you UV-Hers contact any of the student groups Sugar MAGNOLIA mentioned? I don't have time right now. THANKS Ernest? CJ? Anybody?? CJ said she'd see what she can do to tell a student organization about the event.
It was Rusty's great pleasure meeting bloggers Natasha, C.J., and Toni Anne with her son today at the Advocate celebration. Try as he might, he couldn't get Natasha to show her grinners in the pix we shot. Her mother is a real beauty, characteristic of many of the women in New Delhi.
Natasha's dad accepted my medical case after my stroke four years ago. We were really in a bind and Dr. Omesh Verma stepped up to the plate for us. Cleric and Amber Bee were there. It was good to see and get hugs from Amber's mom Tammy and dad Mike again. The word was that Ash Wade was due to show up but we never connected if he did.
Rusty was very impressed by how helpful Amy Davis and her tribe were today. They went the extra mile helping locate an office in the Wells Fargo building. After writing the names of Andrew, 14, Angela, 10, and twins Jeremiah and Zechariah,6, Rusty asked Amy, "What does your hubby do?" She pointed up and said, "He's in heaven. He had a brain mass six years ago when the twins were just three weeks (or was it three months?) old." To Rusty's ventured, "I'd bet you really have a story don't you?" Amy replied, "Yes we really do." She set a time for our interview. Hopefully, it'll appear in the Advocate hard copy edition as well the online edition.
How many of you ever joined in on a tafffy pull? What flavors did you make and how did you go about having the pulls? It seems like they were social events for young people.
Where were you and what were you doing when you heard about the planes hitting the twin towers on 9/11?
Rusty was in a wheat field near Belfield, ND monitoring construction on a Sprint "Point of Presence" (basically, a fiber-optic signal relay station) addition. My contractor got a phone call just about the same time Sprint called me. "Send your contractors home until further notice. Lock up the station and leave the site until we contact you again. We have a national emergency and are securing all sites in the country. Planes crashed into the World Trade Center towers in New York City and we don't know what other planned strikes there are."
FROM THE LACK OF RESPONSE TO THE PAST FEW blogs, Rusty is reminded of a line from the play BLYTHE SPIRIT when the medium was trying to have a seance, "I-S A-N-Y-B-O-D-Y T-H-E-R-E?????
Are the questions that boring or has everyone old enough to reply left town but Rusty?

How many of you remember THE STROLL?

How many of you remember THE HIT PARADE? Who were the regular singers besides Snooky?
How long has it been since you hand cranked ice cream? What are your memories of doing that? What all flavors did your family make?
We received this question from a reader: "Have you heard any rumbles about the new MedicareRX program or are we the only ones who have been less than pleased? Just wondering. Thanks. Pat"
PAT: Thanks for your question. I'm assuming you're referring to Medicare Plan D, is this correct? Or, do you mean the medicare plan D program offered by AARP? We have a few pieces of related mail in there. Maybe something will show up in there. If I find anything interesting I'll try to get back to you. What have you heard? As far as your dissatisfaction, it's Rusty's less than humble opinion that plan D is a big political joke for the horse's hineys in Washington, D.C. to pat each other on the back and brag, "See what WE did?" When actually, they've really screwed up lots of old folks since some the pharmaceutical companies have taken the stand, "Since medicare plan D is taking care of you, you don't need our free medication any more." It's costing seniors untold millions in money they don't have. The AARP backers of that legistation are a bunch of eliteist moneybags whom will never be affecgted by this fiasco. Anyone else have anything to add?
An empty sugar sack and a snuff glass brought back memories of my paternal grandmother. A farmer's wife, she saved everything she got her hands on. Instead of ziplok baggies, which weren't on the scene yet, she put sandwiches or a myriad of other foods, in bread wrappers or the waxed paper linings of cereal boxes.
It was interesting to see how big her ball of string had grown. That string was gleaned from the top of sugar sacks, feed sacks, etc. Grandma dipped Mrs. Garrett's, or was it Levi Garrett's snuff? It seems her snuff came in dozen lots of the greatest drinking glasses ever. Nearly everytime we visited her she sent a 5 lb. paper sugar sack full of snuff glasses, and maybe a molded yellow chunk of home churned butter, home with us. Did any of you ever help your mom or grandmother put the colored powder in the butter which turned the color from cream to yellow? Did they use butter molds?
Did you ever stop to thank God for all the things your body allows you to do? Did you ever consider how thin a line there was in your mother's blood chemistry which determined whether you were born "whole" or "normal" or not?
Uncle Rusty is sitting here with tears in his eyes, watching the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy telethon. He worked in a medical complex which included Children's Memorial Hospital, better known as Crippled Children's Hospital. Part of Rusty's ambulance driver duties was to take young patients and their parents "over to kids". You'll see all kinds of medical problems in such a setting. Rusty was 20 years old when he rolled a car. Ensuing x-rays revealed he had a conjenital abnormality called spina bifida. Until then, everyone he'd heard of having SB was playing wheelchair basketball. Just think how fortunate he was for it to not show or limit his activities. When our kids were born we were apprehensive because two of their mama's brothers were born with physical abnormalities. The lack of folic acid in their mama's diet was later credited with their problems in the 1940s. The uncle born with a heart part missing lived about ten years. The other had a spina bifida so much more severe than Rusty's that the spinal fluid was contained in a sack. His mama had to take monthly five or six hour bus trips, each way, to take Grant to that very "Crippled Kids" hospital. Seeing the MD victims on the telethon, and the progress achieved through research that makes their lives better, brings another overwelling of tears. We are so blessed.
How many of you remember THE HIT PARADE? Who were the regular singers beside Snooky?
How many hummingbirds are visiting your feeders? Rusty would have sworn there were at least fifty circling, sitting or feeding in sight at one time yesterday. Our sugar supply was used up so we had to go buy eight more pounds.
REVISION Mrs. Rusty uses a FOUR to one water/sugar ratio. Rusty uses about SIX /one. It seems Ro Wauer uses SOMETHING ELSE. The experts advise against using red food coloring as it might not be healthy for the birds. What ratio do you use? Hey, Muryjo, do y'all have any hummers up there. Only a few reported at Wiater.
GARON SENT THIS:
A man riding his Harley was riding along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said, "Because you have TRIED to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish." The biker pulled over and said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want." The Lord said, "Your request is materialistic, think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required to reach the bottom of the Pacific and the concrete and steel it would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind." The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally, he said, "Lord, I wish that I and all men could understand our wives; I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, and how I can make a woman truly happy." The Lord replied, "You want two lanes or four on that bridge?
How often do you have to hit the PAGE button on your cordless phone base or call your cell phone to find it? Evidently, my cell phone got knocked off the nightstand when my C-PAP machine was pulled nearly off the shelf. That must have been quite a turnover in the bed for the machine to move that much. Normally, it's in the same place in the morning as it was when it was put to use.
The cell phone? It was under the bed.

Recently someone was browsing through the 40th Anniversary Issue of Reader's Digest (dated Feb. 1962), and came across this reprint from the Washington News. And found it quite interesting considering our current debates! The Quote: "Vice President Lyndon Johnson received the following message from an American Indian on a reservation: 'Be careful with your immigration laws. We were careless with ours.' "
What was the name of the Indian Princess on the Howdy Doody Show?
Name the clown. Who played the clown? What was the name of the guy that was Howdy Doody's friend? Who was the old crotchety puppet?
WHO SANG AND WHAT WERE THE WORDS OF "CATCH A FALLING STAR"?
How many of you remember THE STROLL?
Will someone explain the last line of this one to me?

What did you call soft drink bottles when you were kids? Pop bottles? Soda bottles? Soda pop bottles?
How much did you get for soda pop bottles way back when? Some grocers would buy bottles from kids and put the bottles out their store back doors and then buy those same bottles from another kid in a day or two. My cousin Karen and I collected and washed dirty bottles and got $1.28 for them at a penny for dirty ones and two pennies for clean. We bought firecrackers with them. Karen's leukemia has returned as masses on her one remaining kidney. She donated her other kidney to her son over ten years ago. |
