Comedians, and lucky guys, say timing is everything. On a list of topics on the MSN webpage today was something that reminded me that the real estate peddlers say: Location, Location, location. These two topics were posted in just this order:
London tourism booms.
Flight evacuated after bomb threat

The above lines were posted below the piece about the Indonesian railroad that reminded me of that song, "CHARLIE ON THE MTA". Who recorded that first? Kingston Trio? The Limelighters? New Christy Minstrals? Chad Mitchel Trio? What were some of the songs that Loon, Sugar Magnolia, Slim tim; Geezer and a few more of you remember that were done by these and their cohorts of the time? What were some Joan Baez tunes? Hoyt Axton's? Woody and Arlo Guthrey?

Mike Austin, did you ever know of this happening in your travels? At one time, back in his wilder days________might have pulled such a stunt.

There are being way too many single vehicle accidents. It's appalling to read about so many deaths that say a pickup crashed or rolled and the DRIVER WAS NOT WEARING A SEATBELT. One such story appeared in Thursday's Advocate about a local youth, 18, who wasn't wearing the belt. Why is this so prevalent around here? Do all these young guys think they're ten feet tall and bullet proof? Or, crashproof?
The following link is about the St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher who died this morning.

oNE OF THESE DAYS when Rusty gets caught up he wants to get back on here. The weather shot my plans of cutting a fat hog in the backside at the bass tournament selling raffle tickets for the kids right in the foot. More later.

One of the most commented on items on the suburban radio the last few days
was about Sheryl Crow's crowing about limiting everybody to one square of toilet paper per "sitting". She says this will save the environment. What does this gal smoke anyway?

Maybe she's planning to furnish us all with red corn cobs and white ones. Someone please tell us the reason for two red corn cobs and one white one.

What do YOU think about her idea?

It sounds like our little always-on- the-go "wannabe" blogger mama that's always toolin' around in that little red Dodge minivan driving all her urchins to dance and girl scouts and 19 other after school activities is about to throw in the towel.

"I can't log in. It tells me its the wrong password every time and I know it's not. If I can't get this fixed..I'm just gonna ......"

Has anyone else been having these problems?

The day Toyota had us at Lake Fork for the big press preview for this upcoming TTBC tournament my guide was Tony Clark. He was quite down in the mouth over personal problems which were leaving him financially, emotionally, and physically drained. I called him about a week later and he’d "..spent a half day on the lake and boated eight fish . The top five weighed over 30 pounds total with one going 9 # 8 oz."

The next week he reminded me of a balloon bouncing off the ceiling. “I had the best week I’ve had in a long time. We caught lots of bass over six pounds. The best part was yesterday (Saturday) when a guy from Fort Worth who’d won a tournament fishing with me last year brought his boy Ryan. He’ll be eight tomorrow.
“When that kid got out of the vehicle he announced, “Mr. Tony, I can cast any way you want me to overhanded, sidearm or even underhanded. I’ve been practicing.” He was right about it, he could really put a plug where he wanted it.

RYAN HUMPHREYS AND GUIDE TONY CLARK
“I stuck one and handed the rod to Ryan and let him reel it in. He played it like a pro. When he got it in the boat, it weighted three pounds. Boy, he was really grinnin’ from ear to ear as it was his personal best to that point. But that wasn’t the best part. I’d moved up in an area where the bass were on the (spawning) beds. The water was pretty clear and wasn’t over two, two and a half feet deep.
“His dad, Richard Humphreys, made a cast (This is where Rusty’s memory gets fuzzier’n usual. Either the fish struck at the white rubber worm or bit the tail off of it but didn’t get hooked or some such) and I could see the fish was getting’ all stirred up. She’d leave off the nest and get under a log then she’d move again. I could tell she was ready to strike. While his dad was riggin’ up another worm I said, “Ryan, cast up there where your dad just did.”
“He made a perfect cast and when that fish jumped out of the water we thought it was a five pounder. I got so excited, I was down on my hands and knees on the front of the boat, tryin’ to net that fish. I nearly fell out of the boat and must’ve missed that fish three or four times. Ryan worked it back down to where I finally netted it. It weighed 7 # 7 oz.
“Ryan was usin’ one of Mark Pack’s Lake Fork Tackle baits called a Ring Fry. It was white about five inches long and I’d dip dyed the tail with Garlic Blue Spike it.”
Rusty here: Richard told me that he’d bought Ryan a little Snoopy spincast rod with a Zebco 202 reel on it about two years ago.
"Last year we were catching sand bass and he wanted to use my casting reel. I told him, “Now that’n’s kinda tricky to use. If you’re not careful, you’ll have the worst bird nest you ever saw and it’ll take all day to get it straightened out.” That didn’t phase that boy a little bit, it was really surprising how quickly he figured out how to cast it without any problems. After that, he always wanted to use my “tricky” reel.
Yesterday, he was using a Pflueger combo we got’im at Academy. It’s a 1M6 medium heavy action rod with a 5.1:1 reel spooled up with 12 # test Trilene line."

Rusty received this from a proud papa: "Abe, Attached are some photos from Saturdays trip Tony that I hope you use. The smaller fish weighted about 3 ½ pounds caught earlier in the day. Tony did a great job with the conditions that we were dealt with. The cold front that blew in the day before, plus the winds we had on Saturday made it tough fishing. The patience Tony showed with us made the trip a great memory for me and my son that we will never forget. My hat is off to Tony for the fun time we had which you can see in the smiles on our faces. I have been fishing with others guides in the past and can’t think of one of them that showed the patience and heart to go out of the way to make sure a 7 year old boy caught the fish that he has been literally dreaming about not to mention letting him steer the boat (while idling of course). The next time you talk to Tony, please give him our thanks again and I can assure you we are looking forward to many trips with him again in the future. Sincerely, Richard

RYAN HUMPHREYS, 8 YEARS (-2 days) caught this 7# 7oz beauty but had to release it(only 23" long, has to be >24" to keep Lake Fork bass) fishing with guide TONY CLARK at LAKE FORK.

HEY GANG, WHAT TIME IS IT? Who can tell us where that came from?

We got some more prize commitments for our raffle.
RAFFLE UPDATE 4/2/07 — DON'T LET INSECTS OR SNAKES MOLEST YOU.

MORE PRIZES INBOUND — KEEP WATCHING THIS AREA

1. Two $50 gift certificates from SCS LTD. OUTDOOR SAFETY PRODUCTS, most for keepin' the crawlin', bitin', flyin', stingin' and slitherin' critters from molesting your very own personal body parts. http://www.scs-mall.com/

UPDATE 4/02/07 EMMROD SPECIALTY FISHING RODS.
IDEAL FOR KIDS, US OLDER FOLKS, HANDICAPPED, AND EVERYONE ELSE.
EMMROD is sending us SIX of their "handy little ol' fishin' rods". Even though these 22" castin' and spinnin' rods "that cast like 6 ft telescopin' rods" break down to a 14" length, they'll "slang a bait as fur as them ol' biggins", I've tried 'em. They're ideal for jiggin' from a boat like for crappie. They are also great in tight quarters because you can pull your bait straight back and the coil spring of stainless steel will shoot it like a rifle, or a slingshot. http://www.scs-mall.com/
