An Artist's blog: Texas Tall Tales
This blog will be a step-by-step of how I do a painting for a new feature for the Victoria Advocate.
The feature, called Texas Tall Tales, will debut Aug. 31. Texas Tall Tales will have a painting that depicts something whimsical, odd or surreal. Each painting will have a title. Readers will be encouraged to make up an imaginative story that matches the painting. The best story will be published and the writer will get a framed print of the painting. For the first installment I wanted to use the County Courthouse in some kind of offbeat setting. After discarding a couple of concepts I settled on having the courthouse floating on a paddle-wheel steamboat. Here's my rough sketch and some reference photos I shot and gathered from the web. Total time of research and sketch: About 2 hours To see some of my finished work, go to: www.robertzavala.net 3 comments from 3 users

This is awesome. And your drawings rock! Anyone can participate right? I bet Lucy would be interested in writing some stories. I would love to give it a try but I'm not the best writer.... Wait, unless....
