An Artist's blog: Drawing The Dance
Finally got a chance to do the initial drawing for the second installment of Texas Tall Tales. I switched gears a little and decided that the man in the foreground should be Hispanic. I found a great model for this in Manuel de los Santos. Roni Gendler and Wes Bloomquist also did fine work as the models for the ghostly couple dancing in the pasture. Advocate photo editor Frank Tilley graciously shot the reference photos.

Remember, there is still time for entries for the September Texas Tall Tales (The floating courthouse).

rzavala - for what it is worth, may I offer just a slight constructive criticism? I much prefer the original. The drawing has changed too much. The woman kicking up her leg is completely out of place and takes away the wistful sadness of the original. I no longer get the same feeling with this new one. I also think the man's features/race have not changed for the better. Just an objective viewer, am I.
