We can drill safely HERE, it is proven!!
Who do we blame for the low domestic oil, gas and coal reserves today? It is those that put all the areas now needed off limits.
ANWR can be safely drilled by those that have vast experience in drilling in the Alaska territories Exxon/Mobil, BP and such. It is proven they can do this and it does not disturb the Caribou/Reindeer (same animal), moose, etc. The Alaskan pipeline proved it does not disturb things like they said it would. It is only a small portion that would be drilled and put into production. The size of Delaware in a state that is larger than half of the US. They can drill safely in the Arctic area deep waters. They can safely drill in the shallow and waters of the Continental shelf off the East, West and Gulf Coast. Billions of barrels of oil and vast cu. Ft. of natural gas are there. The majority of Alaskans favor this action. It is OTA’s, Other Than Alaskans, who are not in favor. This from a personally known resident of Alaskan.
The propaganda nowadays is that the polar bears are going extinct. The actual figures are that there are 100 to 150% more polar bears today than in the counts of the 1960's. A survey of the animals' numbers in Canada's eastern Arctic has revealed that they are thriving, not declining. In the Davis Strait area, a 140,000-square kilometre region, the polar bear population has grown from 850 in the mid-1980s to 2,100 as of March,2007. "There aren't just a few more bears. There are a hell of a lot more bears," said Mitch Taylor, a polar bear biologist who has spent 20 years studying the animals.
We could have added wind farms to the offshore and onshore areas that can put out the wind to run the wind generator turbines.
Some of the best low sulfur, high Btu coal in the world in here in the US and could be being use today. The kind that is needed and required to burn in coal power plants to meet todays and future emission standards. Off Limits.
Some say there is no time to drill now because it is too late; it will be 6 to 10 years before that oil will be on line. Well it would be on line today if the administration had not bowed down to the big money of the wacko environmental groups back in 1990’s. The Alaskan wildlife would be just fine just like they are now. The fish would be just fine just like they are now. But the well to do who sit by the sea shore and do not want to see oil rigs and wind turbines would have their visions blinded some. While they sit on their multi-$$$$$$$$ porches.
Would we be just fine with as much reserve as we would ever need? No, but we would be much better off with the time we need to obtain, to address issues we have to deal with. Today's presidential candidates are not any better so expect no help with the energy thing soon

Like I said in the post. Is it the answer for the long term,...NO. But we are NOW in the shape we are in party because we are not allowed to drill for the new areas we know would help us out in the short term.
Or we can sit here with our thumb up our rears in a society so set up in petro going crazy while we do nothing. The poor going even poorer. Countries that do whatever they can to destroy our economy doing it. That was one of the goals of the 911 thugs, hit at our economic places. etc... Wind, solar, nuclear evidently not the answer as el loco environmentalist will not let us develop and the rich elitist not letting us put up things that the poor babies will have to look at. We can sit here and not drill, sit here and not develop wind, solar, nuclear, which is what we are doing now. The oil companies are happy and want to drill and be more happy, the enviromentist are happy that there is no drilling or cutting or nuclear, so who is getting hurt by all this happiness? The consumer. Unless they are rich like you I guess. posted by

Isn't the goal to get off oil? ....It seems like a step backward to me. but it takes tens years to bring up oil and it will be such asmall amount. I like your other ideas a lot better.
