I am furious!!!
Did anyone read the paper today? Section B has an article about a 21-year-old Tyler man. Let me summarize: A 21-year-old Tyler man was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday after he pleaded guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child. He was charged with dressing as a woman and luring a 13-year-old boy that he met in an Internet chat room into having sex with him. How, I ask you, is that any different that the Ratcliff case? This man claims that the boy was older than 13 and the sex was consensual. But, posing as a woman and luring someone into having sex with you is wrong. It doesn't matter if you are in Tyler, Victoria, or China - it is wrong. I am so glad that the Tyler judges saw the wrongness of this situation and gave him the maximum sentence. I wish that our judges had the ability to be as unbiased. Wrong is wrong. I think we should adopt a form of uniform punishment - if you commit "x" crime, regardless of your age, race, occupation (or former occupation in our case), etc, your punishment will be "y". Everybody should be held to the same standards. This just makes my blood boil! 7 comments from 7 users

I am sick of everyone being so down on Ratcliff's accuser. I happen to know who he is, but don't "know" him. Has anyone ever questioned when he got so "bad"? Maybe he was a good kid until he was repeatedly sexually assaulted by someone in authority. Maybe his behavior was an attempt to get some attention and get him some help. To all of the Ratcliff supporters, all I can say is that I hope and pray that one of your children are never sexually assaulted. You would be surprised what that does to a kid.

How is it different? Well, maybe there was some -- uhhhh, what's the word? -- oh, yeah....EVIDENCE. It seems this case wasn't a DECADE old. The boy isn't a junkie and was looking to cut a deal to improve his lot in jail.

I think when the person who commits the crime is a person of authority like a law enforcement officer their punishment should be more severe than the average "joe blow."

Maybe there were witnesses. Maybe the victim didn't have to cut a deal to stay out of jail--again. It is not the same thing. But it is sad. posted by

I'm glad justice was served,in TYLER! Wonder if his sentence would have been any lighter if he would have been an ex-sheriff? Only in VICTORIA posted by
