ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA Republican presidential candidate and Texas congressman Ron Paul’s run for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination reached another milestone on Thursday as it surpassed former GOP frontrunner Fred Thompson’s third quarter fundraising total.

With over one month still remaining in the fourth quarter, Congressman Paul has currently raised $9,757,382.  By comparison, Fred Thompson took in only $9,750,821 during the three-month period from July to September of this year.

“This milestone is the latest indication that Dr. Paul’s message of freedom, peace, and prosperity is resonating strongly with voters across the United States,” said Paul campaign spokesman Joe Seehusen. “New money means new support.”

The most recent polls also show Congressman Paul ahead of Fred Thompson in the critical early primary state of New Hampshire.

The Paul campaign has publicly set a $12 million fourth quarter fundraising goal, to be raised by December 31.  Congressman Paul is also the first presidential candidate in history to make fundraising numbers publicly available in real-time.

Recently, Paul received widespread recognition for his record $4.2 million one-day fundraising haul on November 5.  Over 37,000 citizens contributed in one single day.

Something cool that Xerox is doing

If you go to this web site,
www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!!  This is a great site.  Please send a card.   It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Utah cop tasers speeder Part 1

Utah cop tasers speeder Part 2

Utah cop tasers speeder Part 3

Here is yet another tasering incident that is receiving a lot of news coverage. I included links to the entire, uncut recording for your viewing. I'm curious to hear what you all think of this incident.

For the record, I'm sure you all know by now that I'm opposed to tasering except in potentially life-threatening circumstances. In this case, the charge is speeding. The police officer gets angry because the offender doesn't sign the ticket and is going to arrest him for not signing it. I wasn't aware that you had to sign the citation; in fact, I have seen instances of people throwing the ticket on the ground and swearing at the officer and no arrest taking place. The offender never swears or raises his voice to the officer and is not disrespectful to him. He is never read his rights or told how much over the limit he was going. The officer also takes it upon himself to search the driver's side of the vehicle without probable cause or permission; if he had reason to search the vehicle, wouldn't he have pulled the wife out and searched the whole thing, since he left her alone in it for so long?

The part I really find interesting is how the officers all think the situation is so amusing.
Is this justified in your opinion?

Don’t Be Scared

by Jonah Goldberg

As the hopeless but energetic presidential campaign of Rep. Ron Paul (R., Tex.) builds momentum in name recognition, fundraising and cross-ideology appeal, some conservatives are beginning to attack him in earnest.

Of all the issues that people attack Ron Paul for, the one they make the most fun of is his desire to return to sound money. That is very sad. It shows just how ill informed the American populace is about the danger of fiat money and why it was banned by the Constitution. Our founders knew better, we have forgotten.

To fully explore the issue takes entire books such as What has Government Done to our Money? by Rothbard and The Creature From Jekyll Island by Griffin and others. Very basically, fiat money is paper money that is not backed by anything. You cannot turn it into the government and get gold for it or silver, the way you used to be able to when we had silver certificates instead of Federal Reserve Notes. I know, this is kind of boring stuff, but bear with me.

When fiat, or paper money is created no one wants to accept it. Why should they? You might as well ask them to take payment in Monopoly money. So, to fix that problem, the government creates legal tender laws FORCING anyone who is doing business to accept these worthless pieces of paper as actual money. Why do such a thing? Because that way - and here is where it gets very interesting - they can tax you as much as they want without your knowledge. If the government wants more war, it has to pay for it. War is expensive. You cannot tax the people for it or they will get really angry and not support your war. So, the government "prints" more money. (Actually, more complex mechanisms than a printing press are used, but the concept is the same). The more money that gets "printed" out of thin air, the more the value of the money in your pocket gets diluted.

Think about it. If tomorrow the entire money supply in the country doubled, we would have twice as many paper dollars chasing the same amount of goods. Prices in the economy would double and each dollar would be worth half as much as it once was. You wouldn't have any more buying power than. When the government prints extra dollars, it makes the ones in your pocket right now worth less which is why prices keep rising and no matter how hard you work, you are barely breaking even. Of course, they keep printing more, but you don't wake up with double the money in your pocket so things are really bad for you.

This "inflation tax" is what is causing most of us to feel the economic pinch right now. Right now one main reason things are so tough on you financially is because the government is spending up to one trillion dollars a year on the military. Guess who is paying for that? Us. Guess when? Now and in the future when we will have to pay interest on even more loans the government took out. The government has no money of its own, it only gets what it takes from you and me. And they have been taking a lot of it. We just haven't seen it directly coming out of our pockets in the form of taxes in our paycheck, but we sure feel it when it costs over fifty bucks to fill the tank, or milk is five bucks a gallon, or your cat food goes from 7.99 to 12.99 in three months. Right now the prices are rising because the value of the dollar is dropping.

That is why we cannot afford to keep this empire building going. We can't afford it. I know my cost of living is going down and I am scared about the future, how about you? How much lower can you afford the dollar to drop?

Ron Paul, the one we all keep talking about, has a solution for this: eliminate the government's monopolistic control of the money supply; introduce competition by repealing legal tender laws; and let free people in the free market offer alternatives to the federal reserve notes we are forced to use now. Given the choice, I think we would rather use money that is actually backed by something of value. The idea might seem radical but if you give it some thought the truly strange notion is to trade goods for worthless pieces of paper. Switching to sound money is our only way out of the "inflation" tax and keeping the government's paws off our wallets. It only sounds odd because we are not used to the idea. What is really awful for most of us in the middle and lower classes is that the other candidates won't even entertain the idea. The less you make, the more this "tax" affects you. When you live paycheck to paycheck every dollar counts.

If you want to wake up in the morning with your money being worth what it was when you went to sleep, then open your eyes America. Vote for Ron Paul! All the other candidates make fun of him for wanting to protect your money. They actually laugh at him. Well, they are really laughing at you, the public, because they know they can continue to rob you blind as long as they want. Fight back. You have a choice!

"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to
regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and
shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned
- this is the sum of good government. "
Thomas Jefferson

Okay, here's another taser story for you, this time from Canada:

Video shows man die in airport after he is tasered

For those of you who think tasering is a valid method of policing, does this raise any concerns at all for you?

I don't know why on earth they couldn't have just tackled and subdued him if they were going to arrest him for something. He had no weapon when the police approached him. This is yet another example of a calamity of errors, beginning with the airport not allowing his mother into the baggage handling area to find her son (what, she might be a terrorist, so let's not have an airline employee escort her to find her son from a foreign country??), followed by the police not dealing with the fact that the man they're yelling at doesn't understand their language and then violently electrocuting him. The fact that the police originally reported that the man fought with them which is obviously a lie doesn't surprise me at all. It's exactly why I don't believe them much of the time when they injure or kill someone and say the person provoked them. If not for the videographer in this case, they would get away with murder.

In the name of clamping down on “terrorist uprisings” in Pakistan, General Musharraf has declared a state of emergency and imposed martial law. The true motivations behind this action however, are astonishingly transparent, as the reports come in that mainly lawyers and opposition party members are being arrested and harassed. Supreme Court justices are held in house arrest after indicating some reluctance to certify the legitimacy of Musharraf’s recent re-election.

After watching the short clip of this socialist, John Edwards, be sure to check out the links at the bottom of the page and the first part of the Constitution class by Michael Badnarik in which he discuss rights vs. privileges.

A well regulated *Militia* being necessary to the *security of a free State*, the *right* of the people to keep and bear Arms, *shall not be infringed.*

Supreme Court ruling Below Clearly states that Right to Bear Arms does not come from the Constitution... It comes from GOD

United States v. Cruikshank.

"The right to bear arms is not granted by the Constitution; neither
is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence.
The second amendment means no more then that it shall not be
infringed by Congress, and has no other effect then to restrict the
powers of the national government."

As I predicted last month, the only consistently antiwar candidate on the Republican side of the aisle is breaking through – but in a spectacular manner that I certainly did not foresee. Suddenly, Paul is everywhere, from the Sunday morning talk shows to the length and breadth of the blogosphere. His amazing $4.2 million-in-one-day fundraising feat has entered the annals of presidential politics as the long-promised fulfillment of Internet-based political fundraising. And the myth that it’s all online and not translatable into real people is belied by his recent 5,000-strong Philadelphia rally and similar events in Iowa and elsewhere. Paul has become the equivalent of a rock star among the young, and his appeal goes way beyond the usual libertarian crowd: liberals and conservatives, all races and cultural types, from home-schooling Christians to San Francisco pagans and everything in between. On the Internet, and in the streets, the Ron Paul Revolution, as his followers have dubbed their movement, is taking off.

The conventional wisdom, prior to this breakthrough, was that the Paul campaign was political vaporware, existing exclusively online and not in the material world. Yet that meme is quickly falling by the wayside as his polling numbers are rocketing upwards, from New Hampshire to Nevada. The money windfall – a result that the official campaign had nothing to do with, and which was generated entirely by Paul’s independent supporters acting entirely on their own initiative – has made an advertising blitz possible, with at least two television ads and several radio ads running in early primary states.

NEWS ANALYSIS

A map of donations to the presidential campaign of Jeffersonian conservative Ron Paul (R-Tex) shows that the states with the most donors per capita are overwhelmingly the reddest of America’s traditional “Red States.”

A map of donor states can be seen here:

http://www.ronpaulgraphs.co...

The states that have contributed the most to the campaign, per capita (4th Q), are colored in green on the map. And according to this analysis, as of November 11th , they include Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Colorado and Texas among others. In New England, the state of New Hampshire also glows bright green; indeed, this is where pundits say Ron Paul has a strong chance of finishing well in a primary.

Yet bright yellow states – also among larger Ron Paul contributors per capita – include Maine, New Mexico, Kansas and, surprisingly, California and Florida. States tending toward brown – low donors per capita to Ron Paul – include Illinois, New York and Ohio.

Based on the donation map, it would seem that Ron Paul is reigniting support for the traditional values of Ronald-Reagan-style “Cowboy conservatism” among Red States – small government, and a wariness of foreign entanglements along with a reverence for traditional virtues and morality. Ron Paul is also reportedly receiving support from Democrats attracted to his anti-foreign-war message; this might explain donor support among some so-called Blue states.

The map comes with the following warning: “This page shows donors captured from the official Ron Paul campaign web service. These numbers ARE NOT comprehensive (not even close). … [But] the sample is "random" and large enough now that it's interesting.

Here's an article that left me incensed about police and their growing habit of using excessive force on Citizens who they should be able to subdue with little or no force:

82-year old woman tasered by police

The aftermath of the first article's publication left me dismayed and irritated that so many citizens could defend the tasering of an elderly mentally ill woman:

Don't tase her!

Look, I will venture to say that police have a challenging job. I would also agree that there are instances in which they have good reason to use a taser, a nightstick, or even, as a last resort, a gun. However, more and more it seems that the cops are shooting, beating, or tasering first and asking questions later. Like whether or not it was even lawful of them to enter an 82 year old woman's home without her consent or a warrant, knowing that she has a history of mental illness but has not been reported to be a threat to herself or others. Her only "crime" was turning away a worker from the city's Department of Aging – something that each of us has the right to do at any time in our lives. We are not required to deal with anyone who doesn't have a warrant unless we are committing a crime, and Lillian Fletcher was not a criminal. Now seriously, why are they finding it necessary to taser a tiny elderly woman holding a hammer? If you as a police officer can't disarm a granny with a hammer, you need to work out some more – maybe take a martial arts class.

This woman spent days in the hospital following the assault on her being and her home. She may have suffered permanent damage as a result of these officers' wonton use of force. I hope the worker who triggered this mess has lost some sleep over this incident, because it's my opinion that she's as guilty of violating this woman's rights as the cops who assaulted her. I'm sure from what I've seen of past incidents that these officers will no doubt be found to be justified in their actions, but I for one adamantly disagree. I hope they don't ever visit my grandma to do a "wellness check." She might end up very unwell…or dead.

Fuzzy Math

by Doug French

Those who worship at the altar of Political Correctness and believe American public schools are doing just a dandy job of educating youth might want to consider the following: China graduated almost 200,000 engineers, 44 percent of the undergraduate degrees, in 1999, according to the National Science Foundation, and has plans to eventually graduate a million engineers each year.

In contrast, U.S. engineering schools churned out just 73,000 engineers in 2004, according to Ronald Barr, Past President of the American Society for Engineering Education, totaling less than 5 percent of all bachelor’s degrees awarded. “Our graduate schools are filled with foreign nationals who last year earned 58 percent of the engineering Ph.D.s awarded in the United States. This country relies heavily on these grads to fill our technological needs, but more and more U.S.-trained engineers are returning home after graduation,” Barr wrote back in 2005.

Barr makes the case that students must excel at math and science to succeed in the engineering field. So you would think there would be a renewed focus on that third R – Rithmetic. But in some New York City schools, math class has become a vehicle for leftist teachers to indoctrinate students to socialism. If the kids learn a little math along the way, it’s likely an accident.

Click on www.radicalmath.org and be amazed. Right away you’ll notice the organization’s mission: “RadicalMath is a resource for educators interested in integrating issues of social and economic justice into math curriculum and classes.”

These folks recently held a conference attracting 400 math teachers and education professors entitled “Creating Balance in an Unjust World: Math Education and Social Justice.” The official program’s first page started with a passage from Paulo Freire, the Brazilian Marxist educator and icon of the teaching-for-social-justice movement: “There is no such thing as a neutral education process. Education either functions as an instrument which is used to [. . .] bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of our world.”

Ellen Davidson from Simmons College led the first session of the conference entitled: “How Unfair Is It? Analyzing World Resource Distribution in Mathematically Rigorous Ways.” The workshop promised to design lessons to “help children build stronger conceptual mathematics skills while simultaneously helping them understand social injustice.”

Sarah Ludwig led a workshop on Teaching Mathematics Through an Economics Justice Lens and a group of Chicago public high school students took attendees through a social justice mathematics project involving racial profiling. But I really wish I could have been there for: “Beyond Barbie: Moving from Scale to Social Justice,” facilitated by Portland State’s Swapna Mukhopadhyay. The workshop description reads: “In this hands-on session” – whatever that means – “we will focus on how mathematizing Barbie doll in terms of proportional reasoning opens up to a deep interrogation of some vexing social and cultural issues of our global world. Besides unpacking the relationship between self image, self worth and body image that result in eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, we will also look at the labor issues – particularly in terms sweatshops conditions – in toy manufacturing.” Got that? And you thought calculus was hard.

It turns out that RadicalMath got its start with a grant from the New York City Department of Education. The conference’s principal organizer, Jonathan Osler, is a math teacher at El Puente Academy, a small “social-justice” high school in Brooklyn. Back in 2005, he and two math teachers from other schools applied for the DOE’s Zone Teacher Inquiry Grants Program. According to City Journal’s Sol Stern, some of the social-justice issues that math classes explore are: check-cashing locations ripping off poor people, H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt ripping off poor people, and foreclosure agencies ripping off poor people.

When informed about the “Creating Balance” conference, the school’s chancellor Joel Klein told Stern, “This is a private conference, at which a range of views will be expressed. It seems that many of these views are hardly ‘radical.’”

Hardly radical? It used to be that kids would actually learn some math in high school before going off to college to be turned into Commies. It probably doesn’t matter whether these kids can add, subtract and multiply. After all, social justice demands that society provide for them from cradle to grave. But, has anyone warned the Chinese?

This article originally appeared in Liberty Watch Magazine.

This is a great day for those of us who want the America the founders intended we have. With the incredible success of Nov 5th there is no doubt that Ron Paul's message is resonating with an ever growing number of people. Can it be possible that even with all the forces dragging this country towards it's demise, a humble doctor from Lake Jackson Texas is leading a second Revolution? One thing is for sure Nov 5th will officially mark the death of corp media's desperate attempt to marginalize Ron Paul. Oh some will still try (Fox News is in Neo Con denial) but it's like using a paper cup to empty the ocean. Already corp media is reporting what they feared might happen, but it can't be hidden even they know that money talks and in this case money is screaming it's head off

Throw the polls out the window, Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul, made fund raising history today, raising more money online than any candidate in the history of presidential fund raising.

Ron Paul has raised 3.5 million from over 22,000 donors with just under 4 hours left in the day. Paul has also passed Mitt Romney's one day haul of 3.1 million dollars in a single day fund raising effort, making it the largest one day fund raising effort among all Republicans this campaign.

The British version of Halloween is Guy Fawkes Night, November 5th.  Guy is a well known anarchist who tried to blow up the British parliament, with everybody in it, on November 5th, 1605. As much as the English love democracy, Brits and Scots and Irishmen often say with dry humor "Guy Fawkes was the only man who ever entered Parliament with honorable intentions." British, Canadian, Australian and South African children sang the following song for centuries right up to at least the last generation before TV:

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
The gunpowder, treason and plot,
I know of no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

Anyway, the Republican presidential candidate, Ron Paul, wants to dismantle (figuratively blow up) a number of large government agencies (without people in them of course). His supporters, now numbering at least 3% of registered Republicans and probably numbering at least 3% of the US population, are not anarchists, despite their choice of Monday, November 5th as the day when they try to get 100,000 people to donate $100 each in a "Money Bomb" that would put Ron Paul in the major leagues in terms of being able to compete financially in the 2008 election cycle. Ron Paul has already raised enough money to be considered a first tier candidate (financially), but he wants to break records with the November 5th effort.

Who are these people?

I went under cover in the past week to investigate the "Ron Paul Revolution". On the Internet there is a lot to be found on the phenomenon and a lot of evidence that this man is the most popular candidate among users of the Internet. Whereas a well-made amateur video can expect to get no more than 2000 views on YouTube, there are dozens of Ron Paul videos with an excess of 600,000 views. My favorite videos are the [1] Ron Paul Girl series which features a bright young American college coed who explains politics with a deadpan humor such as "Howard Dean was doing well until he left his Ritalin prescription at home in Vermont". A good news site to keep track of would be [2] DailyPaul.com. Ron Paul has more Meetup groups and more Meetup members than all the other presidential candidates in both parties combined.

Ron Paul supporters are an eclectic group, mostly under 45, who are promoting the 72 year old Texas congressman at least in an effort to make sure other Republicans and the media mention the Constitution and individual rights at all during the coming election year 2008.

Before I describe who I see them to be, I will explain who they are not: Paulites are not Moonbat Lefties. A Moonbat is defined as someone who swallows the entire Marxist smorgasbord of which being reflexively anti-war really means wanting the white patriachy to be defeated. If a Paulite agrees with Ron Paul about not wanting to fight wars all the time, it comes from recognizing that a nation's worst enemy is most often itself, and fighting corruption and defending freedom at home is a full-time job. That being said, Ron Paul has been getting more donation support from pro-war vets and active duty servicepeople than any other candidate.

Socialists are absent in the crowd of Paul supporters. Gender feminists are absent in the crowd. Men who no longer have a pair are absent as well. One would think this might be a good milieu for the Men's Rights Movement.

My observation of the make-up of Ron Paul supporters so far:

1) True intellectuals who may have actually read the Constitution and want to at least send a message about that
2) Successful businesspeople between 25-45 who would rather save for retirement than pay for more government
3) Expats, Americans living in other countries whom Congress apparently believes can still be regulated and ruled over
4) Military, especially those who may have been wounded or almost killed defending the Constitution
5) Males who still have a pair and who at least want to send a message about men's rights
6) Women who respect males who still have a pair
7) Women who really think for themselves and not for the sisterhood

That would be about 3% total of the US population.

In order to get more votes than that, the above people will have to get their parents and relatives on board and convinced, especially those with landlines who are, apparently, the only ones the media pollsters contact.

I forgot to mention that most foreigners, who know about Ron Paul, are for him as well. A poll in Switzerland has him winning the US Presidency if the Swiss were the ones who decided. In Germany, a poll has shown that Ron Paul loses to Dennis Kucinich by a few votes.

Don't laugh: Europe was solidly behind Gore and Kerry in the last elections and the European preference influenced American voters big-time. If European journalists play up Ron Paul over the next year, which would be in accordance with the preference of many of their citizens, it could boost Ron Paul's stature considerably. If Nicolas Sarkozy or Vladimir Putin were to mix with American politics by just discussing Ron Paul's ideas, the ensuing controversy would not hurt the candidate either.

Oscar Wilde once said "The only thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about".

We will see this coming week whether Ron Paul's November 5th "Money Bomb" event rivals Guy Fawkes in terms of getting people to talk about him.

After watching this Video you can understand why American students score at the bottom of almost every standardized test among Industrialized Nations. It is embarrassing that these are grown up American adults who appear sane and are this stupid!

Ron Paul’s Opponents Gambled and Lost

by Bob Murphy

The Ron Paul Revolution keeps running. Just when I get complacent and think, "Okay, that’s more than anyone could have expected from him, let’s get ready for President Clinton…" he goes and mentions Austrian economics to Jay Leno on national TV. (And I had thought some young, "cool" Austrian economist would have to do that!)

A few weeks ago I wrote about the site Intrade.com, which is structured like a futures market in commodities, but where the contracts can be on events such as "Ron Paul wins the 2008 GOP Nomination." When I last wrote, his chances were 6.1%, and he had just edged out McCain to be in 4th place. Well guess what? As of this writing, Ron Paul’s chances are up to 8.5%, and he is slightly ahead of Fred Thompson to now be in third place.

Now remember folks, this isn’t some survey. These are actual contracts with real money behind them. So to the extent that you think the futures price of oil represents the "market’s expert opinion" about what oil prices are going to do, you should also believe that the market’s best guess has Ron Paul in third place to win the GOP nomination, and what’s crucially important is the momentum behind him. Forgive me but I just have to include the chart of his progress:

Incidentally, the reason I personally refer to Intrade as the best barometer is that it represents real money and has a separate contract on Ron Paul. In contrast, the more famous Iowa Electronic Market doesn’t have a contract for Paul, so you have to guess at his standing by looking at the "Rest of Field" contract. The results there are comparable to Intrade’s, but it’s not as obvious how much of the "none of the above" results are due to Ron Paul. For those wishing IEM to have a separate Ron Paul contract, you could write a polite email to its Board of Directors explaining why they should reconsider. (From an intermediate associate it is my understanding that they aren’t biased against Ron Paul, but have a desire to keep the list of candidates manageable.)

So what do I mean by the title of my article? Simply this: Ron Paul’s opponents thought they could ignore his message and just dismiss him as a kook. There was no need for them to grapple with his positions, because they were irrelevant. As Rush Limbaugh explained when a caller told him he had the power single-handedly to make Paul – the truest "conservative" running – a contender: "I don’t think Congressman Paul has a snowball’s chance."

I don’t know quite why I do it, but whenever I’m driving during the afternoon I listen to the local talk radio station. (I listen to NPR during rush hour, so I think it keeps me balanced with support for the welfare-warfare state.) Now whenever these guys (especially Sean Hannity) start ranting about the Democrats and how they have no respect for the Constitution, I just have to laugh. You could quite literally take their rants and equally apply them to the foreign policy moves suggested by most of the Republicans.

I actually heard two guys discussing Ron Paul’s views on terrorism, and how he quotes John
