Helpful government
Government from local to national is deciding what is "best" for us. California wants to put remote control thermostats in homes because the government knows best. California has decided that children cannot be home schooled unless the parent has a teaching certificate because the government knows best. Mississippi has a bill pending in the legislature that fat people (as defined by the state) cannot be served in restaurants because the government knows best. Texas tells people they cannot play eight liner machines that pay out too much because the government knows best. The United States government tells us what time it is because the government knows best. I'm tired of the government telling me what is best. I want to return to the days when I was allowed to decide for myself what is best.

Russia vs. Georgia
Your poll question about who is right, Russia or Georgia, or the third option, they both should quit fighting needs a fourth option.  I think this conflict offers the United States the perfect opportunity to butt out and recognize it's none of our business.

Good for you. Watching Christian civilians being slaughtered over dinner on the nightly news shouldn't dampen your appetite any either. How much you figure gas is going up once the Russians acquire the pipeline?

MAP application does not equal membership, thus NO treaty.  I, for one, am glad about it.  Going to war to honor a treaty obligation with Georgia would be a bad deal.  I don't feel ANY moral obligation here.

"At their Summit in Bucharest in April 2008, NATO leaders agreed that Georgia would become a member of the Alliance, and launched a period of intensive engagement with Georgia to address questions still outstanding pertaining to Georgia’s Membership Action Plan (MAP) application."   http://www.nato.int/issues/...

Well as long as there's no treaty and only a moral obligation then it's perfectly understandable. Looks like the Georgians will get the same grab your ankles "Bush Deal" the Kurds got from Daddy in the first go around.

gansoblanco...check this link.  Georgia is not a NATO member, therefore there is no treaty that would suck the U.S. into their conflict wtih Russia.

I would suggest to you that the Idiot in Chief staying in China to watch the Olympics with his daddy is a good thing.  He's not causing trouble when he's watching beach volleyball.

Last time I looked Georgia was a member of NATO and our ally. Suffice to note that Putin left the Olympic Games to go home and prosecute a war and the moral monogamist leader of the free world stayed to watch a ball game with his Daddy.
