Helpful government
Government from local to national is deciding what is "best" for us. California wants to put remote control thermostats in homes because the government knows best. California has decided that children cannot be home schooled unless the parent has a teaching certificate because the government knows best. Mississippi has a bill pending in the legislature that fat people (as defined by the state) cannot be served in restaurants because the government knows best. Texas tells people they cannot play eight liner machines that pay out too much because the government knows best. The United States government tells us what time it is because the government knows best. I'm tired of the government telling me what is best. I want to return to the days when I was allowed to decide for myself what is best.

thewaywardwind - > Helpful government -> Obama takes a page from Karl Marx
Obama takes a page from Karl Marx

Barack Hussein Obama should have been looking for open microphones.  He was recorded telling Joe Wurzelbacher, owner of a plumbing business, in Toledo, "It's not that I want to punish your success.  I want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success, too.  My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's good for everybody.  I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

Now, that's not as elegant as Marx's philosophy, "In a higher phase of communist society, after the enslaving subordination of the individual to the division of labor, and therewith also the antithesis between nemtal and physical labor, has vanished; after labor has become not only a means of life but life's prime want; after the produtive forces have also increased with the all-around development of the individual, and all the springs of co-operative wealth flow more abundantly -- only then can the narrow horizon of bourgeois right be crossed in its entirety and society inscribe on its banners:  'FROM EACH ACCORDING TO HIS ABILITY, TO EACH ACCORDING TO HIS NEEDS.' "

Now, will some supporter of Barack Hussein Obama please explain how his philosophy is different from that of Karl Marx?  The United States fought the cold war to prevent Marxism from taking over the planet and now the United States has a candidate for President, who seems to have a very good shot at winning, who espouses the EXACT SAME THING as Marx.  If Barack Hussein Obama is elected, we can kiss our liberty and our ability to earn a living and create wealth for ourselves and our children goodby.  Four years of Barack Hussein Obama in the White House and this will be a very different country indeed.  He preaches change, and pardner, we'll see more change than most of us bargained for if Barack Hussein Obama is elected.

Nietzsche.

This is worse than McCarthyism. Conservatives call Martin L. King a Marxist. They called John F. Kennedy, Marxist. They call the popes Marxist or better yet Antichrist. It is the same group of people who are calling Obama a Marxist. Guess what…..people who call Obama Marxist and antichrist are no better then the people who made this 1963 poster about JFK.

Yes Sandwich, VBB, and Wayward, I am talking about yall as well. Hey go ahead and delete my post.

A couple of Nobama liberal progressive supporters.

Destroy the messenger. Attack an average citizen making a living who questioned the Almighty, god's son Nobama.

Isn't that what Nobama was complaining about McCain doing? Oh, but he is the messiah, don't do as me and my followers do, do a I say.

"i just want to say to this person.  why are you going on with saying obamas full name?"

Well, it IS his name.  Do you object to references to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Lyndon Baines Johnson, or John Fitzgerald Kennedy?

Pat, as expected, instead of addressing his comment (regardless of this mans licensure) you attack this person.  Dem you are no better, trying to shift focus to bad WWW for addressing Obama by his legal name.  I guess you both are all for this redistribution.  Hope I get some of yours!

Actually, Joe the Plumber is not the owner of the business. He is not even a licensed plumber. His boss is supposedly the licensed plumber and because he has a license, didn't think good ol' Joe needed one. Now they are both in hot water with the law because it was illegal for Joey boy to do plumbing work for the business because he was not licensed and the owner charged people who thought they were getting a licensed plumber.

This man is not an undecided voter. He clearly is and was voting for McCain. Do you think there might have been just a little duplicity there? Oh, probably not. Republicans would never stoop to that level. Oh, and by the way, Joe the Plumber had met Obama a week earlier when he walked the neighborhood asking for votes. Wonder why he never thought to ask his question then?

The difference I see between Marx & Obama is this....Marx expected people to work for the pennies they got, Obama doesn't have that same expectation.  That's why some people like him.....something for nothing.

I am more of the supporter of the ideas than the candidates and you seem to be making two mistakes, one: in understanding Obama's statement and two: in understanding Marx's statement.

Marx's statement is actually quite in contrast with Obama's
Marx is assuming the Utopia, which begins with 'enslavement of the individual to the division of labor' whereas Obama is actually referencing the empowerment of each individual who is not as empowered as Joe the plumber.

Marx is assuming that 'labor' should/would become the life's prime want. On the other hand Obama has never indicated such a desire or expectation of such a desire from the citizens. Actually most of his philosophy - as less elegant as you may find it to be - deal with simple pleasures of family life.

Marx is not conceptualizing an economy that includes rich and poor, he is theorizing the empowerment of the laborer to 'surpass' the privileged. Obama is talking about the economy that includes both rich and poor, but without the republican blind-dog-faith that expects the benefits to trickle down to the poor. He is talking about progress for all, starting with the poor for obvious reasons.

Now the question of liberty: Your fear is that in 2012 you will not be able to follow your personal dream, now that may be a weekend in Las Vegas or getting your Master's in American history, I think you have no reason to fear. According to obama's theory you will be either behind Joe the plumber if you are less privileged or before him. Obama's policies will get to you based on where you stand. But yes if you are one of those who belongs to the top 10 percent then I guess you will have to wait before you can gold-plate your Cadillac.

Lastly about equating Obama with Marx: more than ideological interest, I smell a strong smell of McCarthyism, which generally breeds on an old, damp, and soggy state of mind. Blended with that is cheap scaremongering that the mind may have gotten addicted to in past 8 years.

Good luck,
N
