Helpful government
Government from local to national is deciding what is "best" for us. California wants to put remote control thermostats in homes because the government knows best. California has decided that children cannot be home schooled unless the parent has a teaching certificate because the government knows best. Mississippi has a bill pending in the legislature that fat people (as defined by the state) cannot be served in restaurants because the government knows best. Texas tells people they cannot play eight liner machines that pay out too much because the government knows best. The United States government tells us what time it is because the government knows best. I'm tired of the government telling me what is best. I want to return to the days when I was allowed to decide for myself what is best.

The latest assault on the First Amendment

I see that "researchers" are calling for bans on fast food advertising on television to in order to make fat kids thin again.  This, like the ban on tobacco advertising, is in direct contradiction of the First Amendment.

"Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press..."

It seems pretty clear to me.  Unlike the Second, there is no qualifying clause to muddy the meaning.  If parents don't want their kids eating fast food, it should be the parents who put a stop to it.

If  there was a group of "researchers" who wanted to prohibit people from going to church, you would see Baptists, Catholics, Jews, and Muslims standing shoulder to shoulder, each holding up the Constitution and protesting that their First Amendment rights were being threatened.  Why don't we see people standing up for the freedom of speech and press the way they would for freedom of religion?

Ok, the big banks are broke and keeping a low profile. US car makers are broker than my cat. Now MakeyD's is banned? I have an important, burning question....Who is left to advertise on the Super Bowl in 2009????? I smell a bailout in the making...

Mmmmmm....Thanksgiving is coming up. Pilot, this is the week that I become the latter. After the holidays, it is amazing how so many people (yours truly included) return to the former. Besides, Mickey D's can't make MY special "Lord Have Mercy" sweet potato pie, my famous brownies, or my world-renowned (well...sort of) English Pea Salad. Wait, I think I just gained 5 pounds.....well, 'tis the season, right?

But back to the subject of the blog, yea, I gotta agree that the parents should be the ones in charge of their children's lives, not the government. After the kid reaches adulthood, there will be time enough for the rest of their lives for government interference.

Speaking as one who lives to eat -- I one time told my doctor that I knew more old fat men than i did old doctors -- I'll be standing up to be McCounted as well.  Thanks, pilot -- I needed that today.

Some folks eat to live. Yet others live to eat. To the latter group, food IS a religion. I'll be willing to bet they will stand up and be counted if and when an amendment is passed that McBans them from Mchearing in the McMedia exactly when the McRib is back..........
