Freddy Fender Dies At 69
I sometimes have the habit of mentioning in my blogs, artists passing away who have touched my personal musical upbringing. Now sadly, I type about Freddy Fender.
He's important to me, because even though I don't talk about race much (I try to avoid it and look at us all as humans), it is undeniable that Freddy Fender (along with a couple of other artists) broke the genres wide open for many hispanic artists. Country, pop, Tex Mex, he had a hand in it. If you have never heard the "Los Super Seven" project he was involved with along with other hispanic artists like Raul Malo (THe Mavericks), Flaco Jimenez, just to name a few you may want to download a sample.
