I was reading some archives on the Advocate website when I learned that VISD did not get back as many responses as they had hoped on the Affinity Question that encouraged the community to comment and provide suggestions and solutions for the future.
Superintendent Bob Moore put a challenge to get 20,000 responses, but they only got 7,200. While that is still a large number it is less than half of what they originally expected. It should concern us all because in Texas, one...
According to the news last night, a certain eatery in Victoria which some of us bloggers just happen to be boycotting, had a whopping 28 demerits issued to them by local officials.
Looks like Customer Service isn't their only problem.
I went to Hasting's and bought a Casino game for XBOX for 7 bucks. I played for a while... and then my wife and daughter came home. The little one always wants to join whatever I'm playing, and I didn't think she would understand the concept of Casino games... but I forgot I sort of taught her how to play Roulette with her Strawberry Shortcake board game. (I had her place the marker where she thought the spinner would land instead of playing the board game normally)
So after about a 5 minute...
I was told by one of our mutual friends that my friend/ former boss/ all round cool guy Jim in Iraq gets a kick out of reading my blogs.
I really miss hanging out with him and talking about music made before 1999, and maybe catching a plane ride on our lunch breaks.
Here's an update just for you Jim:
- We lost a lot of good music artists this year... I know that would have made for interesting water cooler conversation if you were here.
- The band is good, and one of my new year's...
I need to find out who I can talk to so I can try and get the Stout City Luchadores billed to play the "Noche in Old Victoria" celebration that happens every May 5.
My band's anniversary is on Cinco De Mayo, and I cannot think of a better theme for them to play than a pro hispanic gig like that. The fact that the band works hard to uphold the honor and magic of the mythical luchadore is a thing of beauty.
I was browsing the internet when I found this neat community on livejournal.
50 Book Challenge
The idea, is the members challenge themselves to read 50 books in a year.
I think it's pretty neat. I have always loved reading, and writing... and this is a great way to keep me motivated in the busy things that get in the way of everday life. What started as one person's idea has snowballed into a huge online community to get people involved in reading.
In this day of PS3's and myspace...
I read this article online, and found it interesting...
Congressman to be sworn in with Quran
Apparently, Keith Ellison is the first Muslim to be elected to Congress. Instead of being sworn in by the Bible, he is being sworn in by the Quran. It's not just any Quran, it's a rare edition that was owned by Thomas Jefferson.
The argument (and there is always an argument isn't there?) Is that some people think that a Bible is the only book that should be used in a swearing in ceremony....
My friend Marcos uaed to say, "Today you can tell someone that they are the nicest person you have talked to all year and mean it."
So far the new year is looking pretty good.
George Lucas was the Grand Marshall on the Tournament Of Roses Parade and Star Wars ruled the day.
