So the other morning, I heard this advertisement on the radio talking about a news story that local channel 25 was going to air. It was all about "your kids' safety" and how safe they are in college. It went on to reference scary things like predators. So I watched it just now, and watched the reporter talk about a local website you can go to to check out local predators. Fact: this database has been available for a while and is hardly worth the scary commercial Fact: The reporter...

Saw in the news last night that the city of Edna is proposing a skateboard ban that will prohibit skaters on certain parts of the city. According to the news, they stated that the ban was to "protect public safety, health, and welfare" Huh? www.dictionary.com defines health as :"the general condition of the body or mind with reference to soundness and vigor" I used to skate when I was way younger and way more fit, and I can tell you that skateboarding is no easy task, as a matter of...

Is anyone else suffering through the recent “peanut butter salmonella” scare like me? My favorite type of PB is affected, and I had to through the offending jar out (the dreaded 2111 number was on the jar) I went to the store to get more. I’m a “Peter Pan” Creamy guy… but all I could find was “Jif” extra crunchy. The color isn’t the same, the texture is all wrong, and I swear these peanuts are from inferior soil… eh

Here is another short story that I recently wrote, it is being added to a zine called "Lemon Press", but since it will probably never hit Texas, here you go: The Pride Of The Milner County Fair Every year, they ask me what I put in the soup that makes it taste so good. They used to think it was one of my animals. But that was just a bad rumor someone started because I kept winning at the fair. The Bengal had been alive for years, and I would never harm the Lioness after her...

For the past several days I have been hearing about the death of Anna Nicole Smith. Isn't this the chick who had a reality show we all made fun of? The same one the public shunned and we all "tsked" out loud when she showed up under the influence to every event known to man? I heard some news reporter on CNN talk about how fascinated America was with her. She actually said that America is interested because we can all identify with her. So I guess my question is, how many...

The horrible "holiday" known as "Valentine's Day" is fast approaching. Everywhere, people who don't ever tell the ones they love or hardly show it get to make up for it by buying copious amounts of chocolate, flowers, and stuffed animals making some greeting card company very happy. We are a curious race. At any rate, don't let your sweetheart dwell on this news story, it kind of makes our little offerings of things pink and flowery seem pretty silly compared to a love that has bared...

In all the years that I have spent as a musician, critic, and fan… I have met some really awesome people. One person I’ve written about before is a personal hero of mine… Mark Linskey. Mark plays in a street rock band called the Hudson Falcons, but he also has another side. On his off time, Mark has taken his love for songwriting to play a genre of Americana music that is truly a step above most musicians. Why, should anyone care about a tough guy singer from New Jersey...

Back in August, I wrote a blog about immersing myself in the world of pro football. (See "The Great Football Experiment") I did it for a variety of reasons. One, I just didn't understand team sports, especially the fury that comes with being a football fan in Texas. In order to understand something, you have to experience it. So I did. For a whole season, I followed a team that was picked almost at random. Thanks to my friend Bert, he helped me pick a team that was "good but not too...
