Russell Simmons came out in a hip hop summit recently and stated to the public that 3 certain words should be "banned" from all "clean" versions fo songs that hit airways. While I am aware of the Imus situation, and while I am most certainly aware that Simmons has done his fair share in shaping the world of Hip Hop, I think he is treading on thin ice with the community he helped shape. First and foremost, I listen to all kinds of music, including this genre, and while it is always...

I didn't want to comment on the Virginia Tech tragedy right away when I heard about it. Although I knew that it was obviously a dark day for the nation, I also knew that things were going to turn upside down soon and a lot of accusations would be made before the evidence came to light. Even now, there are reports about gunman Seung-Hui Cho. The first 24 hours of the tragedy had America asking "Why?". Why did he do it? What did he listen to? What motivated him? What can we find out? I'm...

Thursday is National High Five Day. A friend of mine has been working very hard to spread the word for a month now, and I'm doing my part. No matter what you do, how you greet someone, how you praise them, etc... do it with a hive five. Borat would love it.

The food drive bash is still happening. It has been moved to the pavillion next to the city pool. I'm really hoping people turn out and I hope the weather holds. This is for a good cause, there is no profit to be made from any of this, and I really want to thank all the bands for taking time out of their Saturday night to do this for free (and the sound guy)... All proceeds will be donated to Christs Kitchen and the womens crisis center. It's sad sometimes to see a large level of apathy in...

In an effort to give readers a better example of the type of bands that will be playing at a local food drive event, I have decided to write about some of the bands participating... First up, are some good friends of mine from Cuero.... Donations. I first heard the Donations when my wife and I were just dating. She came to the house one day and had this CD... It was a homemade CDR and on the cover it said: "Donations... to buy us lessons". Well I put it on and was soon laughing out...

I enjoy hearing about good things that happen in this town. I look foward to the "hometown hero" segments in the local news, and I like the new humanitarian feel to the Advocate the last few months as they focus on a more local feel. I also like local events that benefit local charities. It gives me, a sense of community. For awhile, some friends of mine who organize several underground music shows in Victoria (Rightbrigade music) and myself have been talking about doing a local event to...
