I saw this in Yahoo news. I think this is sad that the owner of the book store couldn't even give his books away.
Book Burning
A few times a year, my band gets to be part of something really magical in Texas. Sometimes, it may be something like performing for a benefit or charity which is always a good feeling. But about every year, we get to play in a little show called "Barnfest" which originally started out as just a few bands who wanted a place to play.
The last couple of years, our brainchild has grown into a gathering of musicians, fans, and people just a little bit bored, but I was still glad to see it...
30 years ago this Friday. Star Wars showed in theaters the first time.
Lots of movies have come and gone. But the original trilogies are timeless. Sure... there have been more expensive movies, movies with other "hot" actors of the moment... The original movie may have never won an academy award despite it's greatness.
But Star Wars is an entity of it's own. It raised the bar for other Science Fiction movies to live up to. It's still the story of a damsel in distress, a space pirate,...
May 19 was Peter Mayhew's birthday.
You may not know the name, but you would know him as Chewbacca.
What you may not know is that he is 7'3 and now lives in Granbury Texas... That's a looong way from England.
Oh sure... you may think dressing up in a huge furry costume is something anyone can do, but Mayhew actually spent time studying the movements of animals before taking on the role of Chewbacca.
A popular story is once, he got sick while shooting "The Empire Strikes Back" so...
Blimey!!!
What's worse than being British? Being British and chased by zombies pal.
I know, I know, to the hard core zombie movie fan and fans of the reanimated... these creatures aren't really zombies, but "infected" humans of a "rage virus" that once bitten, they take on the traits of mindless savage beasts with only great urges to kill.
Still, despite this small technicality, I find this to be a much better representation of the zombie genre than George Romero's last attempt (Land Of...
Remember: Amateurs...built the ark.
Professionals...built the Titanic
May 5 marked the band's 2 year anniversary. It's been a long, long, winding road filled with lost friends, moves, shows, and lost band members. I like to think that it's all been worth it.
We don't know what the future holds, we're just 5 guys with all the heart and ambition of the world who want to play music our way, and wear these masks to uphold the pride and honor of a "fictional" city that lives on in the hearts of the people who truly lived there.
We will be trying to hit up all...
So I went to see Spiderman 3. I thought it was a perfectly acceptable summertime blockbuster movie. I am slightly surpised however to see how many people are saying they did not like it. It's a typical mall America response. The majority of the public can't wait to see it, then pretend they are too cool to like it, then when the DVD comes out in a few months they will be the same ones renting it out every weekend.
I happen to think, that for a movie that was based on a comic book (just...
One of my favorite musicians in the world that is still alive is Tom Waits. When it comes to Tom, I'm no snob, I always try to share a little Waits with the world.
So you all are in luck.
He is the musical guest TONIGHT on "Late Night with Conan O'brian"
Tonight at 12:01, I will be watching Spiderman 3 courtesy of my good friend and Uber Spiderman fan, Fabian. How big of a fan is he you ask? The day we met, he told me there were 347 days left until the movie debuts. He's informed me of the count ever since. I can't wait to see his anticipation today. We're basically 6 year olds trapped in older bodies this time of year.
The movie marks the beggining of an interesting time of year, the time for blockbusters and sci fi wizardry. I can't wait...
On May 5th, when everyone else is dreaming of eating their favorite Mexican dishes, my thoughts will be on something else.
May 5th is Free Comic Book Day, and the name of the day is just like it says. Participating comic book stores are giving away free comic day comics to anyone who walks into their stores.
The event is meant to celebrate the medium of the comic book, which is a print genre that has evolved over decades to become a current art form that has stood the test of time...
