Comic Book artist, Michael Turner passed away Friday after a battle with cancer that lasted on and off for many years. He was 37.   He was probably best known for his work on “Witchblade” but did work for both Marvel and DC. His style was best known for many notable comic book covers, and even the popular resurgence of “Supergirl” in the “Superman/Batman” title a few years back. When he was healthy, he was often a fixture in several comic book...

If you are looking for something interesting to do, or if you have always been curious to see what other bands do besides covers, you may want to check out Victoria's Underground Music show today. It kicks off this afternoon and runs till the wee hours of the night. The show features almost every local underground punk, hardcore, metal, etc. band that Richie could find, and you can check out tons of bands for about 3 bucks. That's a good deal even if you're not into all of the bands....

I’m a little concerned about the new trash pick up we have going around Victoria. My neighborhood has not converted yet, and I’m hoping it does not anytime soon.   The idea of having someone tell me how much trash I can generate in a week is not appealing to me. As a matter of fact, any form of authority telling me how much trash I CAN generate after I pay for the service sort of seems… well… kind of Un-American.   I realize that the city is doing this...

Unlike most Americans, I am not entirely thrilled about the new "Wanted" movie. This is because I was a fan of the comic book a few years ago, and unlike Marvel Comics' new "George Lucas" approach to keeping the rights of their characters, the movie studio has totally changed this movie to be a mainstream America nightmare, instead of embracing the awesome unspoiled story. IMBD says the following: "Wanted" tells the tale of one apathetic nobody's...

I’ve been to countless shows over the years. It’s a perk when you’ve played in countless of bands and written a review or two for a zine that can’t afford to pay you. I think I’ve seen just about every living musical act I’ve always wanted to see. Except for one, and I just made that goal a reality last night.   I got to see Tom Waits perform live in Houston Texas. If you keep up with this blog, or know me in my personal life, you will probably know...

I was thinking about Dads today. Father’s Day is coming up, and while I will be like most everyone else and crowding up the greeting card aisle, I know I’m lucky.   The past 3 years, I have seen 3 close friends have the pain of losing their own fathers. It makes you reflect. Stop and take notice of how lucky I have it.   Life saw it fit to bring me a real dad. A father, and someone I respect. He taught me the value of an honest day’s work, and the joy of a...

I am not now, nor have I ever been what you would call a "green" person. I prefer big American Steel, to little fragile hybrids. I don't recycle. It's never been my thing. I even bought my brand new truck because let's face it, I could get it for a song right now. That was of course until gas soared almost a dollar in a few weeks. So I took a few extra bucks and decided that I was going to buy a bicycle. Oh yes... I was going out and buying a bike, and I was gonna go GAS...

Every once and a while, something pops up in our quiet little town that really catches my eye. Sometimes it's a little hole in the wall restaraunt, sometimes it is a band that gets me stoked, and sometimes... it's a candy store. Did I say that? Yeah, I guess I did. It might seem strange to you, that smack in the middle of Victoria is an off little candy store that is getting more of it's popularity for music that the sugar it sells. If you walk into this place, the first thing you...
