Social Networking
I joined the social network site, Facebook, a while back. I have friends on both Facebook and MySpace. There's something about MySpace that makes me not want to join. I think it's because there's too much personal information on it. I realize that on Facebook a person can put just as much personal information, but the majority of people (at least on my page) don't seem to. I'd be curious to know your thoughts on these sites and social networking in general. Please post.

MySpace gets a deserved bad rep for its shameless advertising. However, the claim of too much personal information on that site is ill-informed. MySpace is only as personal as you disclose.
Despite a "cleaner" reputation, Facebook is far more guilty of disclosing personal information (without your consent, by the way) and suffering more debilitating security breaches.

You don't even want to know about Facebook's "Beacon" program.

That's just from a quick google search. They will not hesitate to sell your info, and yet MySpace is usually seen as the more irresponsible networking site.

And here's a scary little step-by-step ditty on YouTube.

Best of all. If you sign up, you may not be able to get out... EVER.

Bottom line:
If you join a networking site, it's going to be networked. Choose carefully, and never share more than what you want the world to see. And always assume the whole world can see it.

I am very thankful for these social networking sites, like MySpace, because they have kept my scattered family just one click away.  I enjoy Xanga and Blogger, more.
