Help! I've Married A Liberal!

I never thought it could happen to me.  I honestly don't know how it happened.  I thought I had used protection. I had asked the right questions, he did not vote for Gore, he is an Independent.  I knew he was fiscally conservative & he LOOKED like a Republican.  Where did my intuition fail me?

Election 2004 came around & he starts recieving e-mail supporting Kerry.  I ask him why he is recieving such vile e-mail & he states it's from his mother.  I was shocked!  His parents were Dems!?!  His mother whispers cancer for crying out loud, how can they be Dems?  But alas, they are.  I ask him again which way he leans, again he states he's an independent.  He votes for Nader that year & laughs about it.  No harm, no foul.  But, watching the returns election night it starts getting ugly.  We end up in a fight.

Now it is election time again.  I just wish it would be over with already.  Everyone is at each others throats, our country is in a crisis & we need to band together and unite as one, but this election is standing in the way.  Now, my hubby says he doesn't like Obama & will not vote for him (Nader again, though  I suggested Bob Barr & he agreed), but he will argue with me about Obama.  It matters not what I say, he will attempt to poke holes in whatever it is I am saying.  Tonight I told him, if his parents were standing in front of me, I would slap them for ruining him.  Good thing I never see his parents, as I wasn't kidding.  He laughed, but he knew I wasn't kidding.  We decided we will not spend election night together.

It is extremely difficult being married to someone whose political views seem to be a contradiction of their life.  How can this man, who is very successful, who denies himself any extravagances, who is extremely fiscally conservative, turn around and claim to be a liberal? ( In his defense, he does claim to be an Independent, but when push comes to shove will claim liberal as opposed to conservative.)  It is very frustrating.  I don't know how James & Mary do it, especially during an election cycle.

Thank you sandwichh, I can use all the prayers I can get with him!  Moderate not good, progressive even worse!

Hope your son is safe & sound.  Let him know how much we appreciate his sacrifice for our country, you & your wife as well!

OMG. Now you know the reality of the ones that say independent most of the time. Don't ask Dem or Rep, close together now adays. Ask Conservative or Liberal. Moderate highly questionable. hehehehe.

I will put y'all on our prayer list and hope he soon sees the error of his ways.   ;)

Chatty,

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone.  Thank goodness Presidential elections are only every 4 years!  I guess the lesson learned here is,  I need to work on my vetting process.

Bighorn,

Chippendales?  Ewww, don't think I'll trade in my 1, for many, who also happen to be gay!  Contrary to popular belief, alcohol does not kill  everything! darn

I'll be on the Mexican border myself that day, I will either drive home slowly, or meet up with my like minded friend to watch the returns someplace that has a liquor license.  Definately will need a distraction.

As far as my husbands "assets"....lets just say he has a rather large "portfolio".  LOL

I was inquiring about buying land across the border recently, don't think I'm eligible as their immigration laws are pretty strict.  I'm thinking Costa Rica is looking pretty good these days.

VBB: Put up that baseball bat! No need in taking radical action. Yet anyway.

Should we ask about the "assets" of your husband that you a TexMom discussed regarding Mary Matlin and James Carville? Nah, let's leave that one alone.

So, you will spending the evening of November 4th at Chippendales....Where are you banishing him to?

I think I'll spend that evening on the Mexican border and get ready to make living arrangements south of the Rio Bravo if the results go the wrong way. Estados Unidos de Mexico, anyone?

Rolling on floor laughing.  Am glad our house is somewhat similar. If anyone can believe mine is much deeper into the radios and TV which belies age.  I am computer and reading.  We are surrounded by neighbors of every opinion in the world--there are signs plastered everywhere, our nearest neighbors are exact polars so we don't speak from September until after the election.  The same goes for my husband and two of his sisters.  The other four swear they were not born from the same family.  But then again both had husbands that took care of them and they never worked a day in their lives.  A much different view from hungry farmers and people that get kicked around in the corporate world or own a business -- now and in the future.

I am surprised when I find a view point were we differ and it is usually a doozy.  We have cancelled each other at the ballot box before but try not to.  My problem this year -- I am the outcast and my whole family appears to have fallen on their head or something from my point of view.  So, I am trying to avoid family for now, don't want button pushed.  Tell me why Catholics who abhor abortion and such are choosing to cross lines.  Don't get it.

Oh well, we had group here tonight -- with many opinions and a few of each type liberal, conservative, and just plain don't give a darn. Made for lively discussion.  I do know if I was married to a liberal -- we would have an interesting time.  As you say.  Am not sure how James Carvell does it.  Have tried to imagine their house at times.
