Regarding Jaynes, a letter the Advocate wouldn't print because it was received Sunday... It is SO COMICAL and sad that people are so convinced of Charlie Jaynes' motives and ethical fabric - only those that do NOT know him, of course.
At the tender age of 52 I am occasionally reminded exactly how naive I am. I wholeheartedly support Charlie Jaynes in his bid for a seat on the VISD School Board. His character, intellect, honesty, and integrity have no equal. His passion for the children of Victoria and the welfare of those attending its schools is unmatched. During the process of discussing my respect and support for Dr. Jaynes, I have heard, and read in this paper, allegations insinuating ulterior motives. I guess the presumption is that every candidate or office holder MUST have a hidden agenda. I was shocked to hear a few feeling so certain they understand Charlie Jaynes’ mind and heart enough to confidently announce his hidden agenda, while keeping the agenda of his incumbent opponent quite hidden. Let me clue Victoria voters into something: Dr. Jaynes is fervently independent and principled. To sully his character by artificially supporting another’s cause would be insanely out of the question. What is my source for this opinion? Watching him, both as his supporter AND opponent, for eighteen years on the Board of Directors of the Victoria Womens Clinic. My mother was my worst nightmare when she substituted for my teachers in grade school. Favoritism? Yea, right. She was TWICE AS HARD on me as any of my classmates. She was relentless. Charlie Jaynes will be DJ’s worst nightmare on the VISD Board as well. Charlie will be likewise TWICE AS HARD on DJ than any other Board member would consider. There is little doubt that our school district is in desperate need of change. The status quo will continue to produce a preponderance of “graduates” that have little chance of competing. The students of Victoria must be provided an environment that not only is safe, but one that applauds and encourages true education. The days of disruption in the classroom as the norm and utter contempt for teachers and their “authority” must be ushered out if we are to save our children’s education. True and aggressive alterations in district-wide policy must occur. This job is not one for the faint of heart. Charlie Jaynes, without question, is the ideal candidate for this position. Status quo can no longer be tolerated. posted by

To PSuarez Do your children go to public schools? Are you involved in committees in our public schools? Do you think it is right for his wife to make her students feel that if they don't go stand on Navarro, yes that is right this past Friday and hold up signs for her husband - they will fall out of favor with her. And by the way that is NOT a good thing at all. Do you realize that it takes a few years to implememt change and that Mr. Moore is doing just that. Have you ever thought that maybe just maybe Dr. Jaynes should be running, if he lived in Mr. Klimist district for his spot. That Tami is not the problem here! By the way have you ever talked with her? No one is saying he is not a good person, I know he is. But face it he has a true conflict of interest his wife!. She has campained for him during school time, had the Victoriadore Booster Club hold a luncheon for teachers, and there is a rumor out there that monies have been given to his campaign from the booster club. Shame on them if they did that if they are 501 c 3 they can get alot of people in trouble and the IRS is not nice to mess with. You know it isn't him it is her she is SCARY to alot of people. No one seems to want to challenge her, what does she hold over people? She is a person just like everyone else, and I think some where in there lies some good just waiting to come out. IT IS NOT GOOD TO USE INFLUNCE FOR PERSONAL GAIN!!!! I wish to God this election had ended yesterday but it did not.

I think that the nastiness and the zeal that the Dance and Drill team girls and booster club have shown about how important having Dr. JAynes on the school board is to them speaks volumes about his motives. I also have a lot of respect for him, but have been sorely dissappointed in what I've seen during his campaign. The blatant disregard for rules, campaigning during school sponsored activities, using booster club funds...having kids and parents whom his wife has such obvious power over standing on the streets with signs and campaigning for him? Shame on the both of them! I think he and those who support him have shown great disregard for our community in the methods they have used. I am very very dissappointed and extremely concerned for our school system if he should end up being elected. It's a sad sad day for Victoria, his campaign has been an embarrassment to our community.
