Who Really Loves Him? - Reading This Will Better Your Life - FroySilva's Blog - Victoria Advocate

So, one night I was having a late snack as my mother babysat my nephew. He wanted to watch his favorite "Thomas the Tank Engine," DVD that he had brought; my mother put it on for him. As the DVD reached the disc menu and clicked play, a new screen popped up. It was something I had never seen before on any DVD. The screen had 2 options: Play Once or Play Repeatedly. Can you believe that?!
Does anyone else see what is wrong here? Don't you understand? Somebody has to kill the babysitter (Jim Carrey in The Cable Guy- overly underrated movie). It occurred to me that some parents use the repeat feature to entertain their children for an enumerous amount of time. I bet some parents wake their children up and put the dang thing on and turn it off at bed time. Talk about ruining and dumbifying the future!
Whatever happen to the good old days when parents would take the time to play with, read with, and communicate with their children, and not be so self-involved.
This really worries and saddens me; think about it. Also, it is really late and I wish I had time to write more on this because it is a good topic. My apologies!
I hope this has made you a better person.

OMG, I never realized this either? Maybe its because I don't watch childrens' movies but I can see your point. This isn't a good sign.

Mar 20, 2008 at 09:03 AM : I have a six-year-old...

I have a six-year-old and a one-year-old, and believe me, this feature is popping up in all the children's movies. It really is sad that someone would think it's a good idea to give parents this option. I try to limit how much time my children spend in front of the TV or computer screen. With my oldest, this can be somewhat of a challenge, he's a homebody like my husband, but my baby is all about activity, he hates sitting in one place for too long. I have a niece who is one as well, she can watch TV all day if we let her. I couldn't believe my eyes when I walked into her room one day and her parents had bought her a TV and they told me it stays on all day! I can't see myself spending money on a TV for a baby! Why can't kids be like back in the days, when we spent all day outdoors, running a muck around the neighborhood........good times.

Oh My GOD! I can't believe that. They are really tearing our children down. I can not believe they would even think of giving an option like this. When my children were growing up, that feature was not available, but obviously it was in the plans.

I am glad your nephew never has to worry about you sitting him in front of a TV and leaving him there for hours on in to turn into a BIG BLOB of nothing.

Come on people... get a grip.

Mar 29, 2008 at 05:03 PM : Many times, I will...

Many times, I will start a movie for my grandkids, but they have found so many other things to do that they move on quickly to what they consider "bigger and better" things to do. I really try to spend time with them outdoors. This is a special treat as they do not have a large yard to spend time in at their home. Also, we took a 6x8 closet upstairs and turned it into an adorable playhouse for the grandkids. It's built under the eaves so the ceiling is about 6 ft. when you step in it, but it goes down to about 3 1/2 feet on the back wall. The door is 4 feet tall.
