Truth is, Jaynes has Ethical Dilemma on Voting - Tami Keeling for School Board - TamiKeeling's Blog - Victoria Advocate

Truth is, that when it comes to voting on salaries and benefits for District employees, Dr. Jaynes has a conflict of interest and faces an ethical dilemma.

Truth is, my opponent can’t vote unless he wants to change the existing practice observed by board members who have family members employed by the District.

TASB senior attorney Holly Klaghorn agrees that Jaynes would be able to vote, but says whether he does or not is an ethical decision he’d have to make for himself.

I applaud the ethical choice made by other members to refrain from voting on issues that put public funds in their own pockets. I would make the same choice were I in their position. What choice will Jaynes make?

This campaign is about effective and ethical leadership for the future of VISD. I have been an effective and impartial voice for District 5. No hidden agendas, no special interests.
I’m Tami Keeling and I want to continue to work for you on the VISD board.

Dr. Jaynes WIFE has held her position in VISD for many years without her husbands help. I dont think she needs it now. Dr. Jaynes agenda is to help steer VISD on the right track. You know there are other seats up for election. They are managing to campaign without all the drama Keeling has had to use.

This morning I was dropping my child off at school and happened to pass Mrs. Jaynes. Her personalized licensed plate is "V-dores", and she has a decal in the back window "Victoriadores: The Jaynes Gang". She also had a "Vote for Charlie Jaynes" magnetic sign attached to her car.
There are a few problems with what I saw. First, she was told that the drill team could not be called the "Victoriadores", yet she has continued to call them that as evidenced from her car and the digital sign in the gym. Does she have a problem with rulings from the board----like the name of the school's organization or, say the decision for MTV not to film??? If so, what better way to make sure that she isn't told "no" than to have her husband on the board? Special interest???
The other problem with the signage on her car---why can she, during school time, advertise for her husband?
Come on people! No one can believe that Charlie Jaynes doesn't have a special interest---his wife!

The Truth is ...Charlie Jaynes CAN vote on 100% of issues according to VISD Policy.
Truth is...Tami Keeling said he could only vote on 20% of the Budget..... a "MisImpression"
Truth is ..Tami Keeling misrepresented the truth.
Truth is...Charlie Jaynes CAN decide if he wants to vote on salaries ...
Truth is...It is Charlie's decision to make
Truth is....VISD policy supercedes what has been practiced. Ignorance is no excuse.
Truth is.....Current Board Members thought they could not vote because of a "Phantom" policy that was not understood until May 7, 2008.
Truth is....Charlie Jaynes can vote on 100% of the budget
Truth is....Charlie Jaynes has a choice....not a dilemma.....
Truth is.....VISD's policy says that Charlie Jaynes Can VOTE on Salaries
Truth is....Tami Keeling chose this ludicrous issue to diminish Jaynes qualifications
Truth is....Tami Keeling knew that her commercials were a "misimpression" but she continued to let them run
Truth is....Tami and her supporters are grasping at straws when they cloud the issue with "ethics"....lets tackle one issue at a time
Truth is...Charle Jaynes is an ethical man who can vote 100% of the time if he chooses.

roberttx, I agree. Unfortunately, I think he's addressed it, going by the ad in the paper this morning and by Warmore's comment. I think its disappointing that he doesn't see a conflict here. I think the voters appreciate the fact that others on the board have held themselves to a higher ethical standard, and it's too bad that Jaynes won't do that.

Just because it's legal don't make it right.

As to those who think this would only be a conflict if he needed the money...well, I don't quite know what to say about that. By that logic, the fox could be in charge of the henhouse as long as he wasn't hungry. That's ridiculous.
