I think the whole world is waiting to see if we can act CORRECTLY for a change.  Please don't ask me to explain, I think we all know what I mean by that.  What's with the applause for Palin? http://community.victoriaadvocate.com/home/Blog/Triangle/8837 http://community.victoriaadvocate.com/home/Blog/Triangle/8837 I'll admit up front that I'm not a big fan of republicans, but I can be objective if necessary.  However, I gotta tell ya, I just don't see the big deal with Sarah Palin.    When Palin speaks her voice tears through my head like a chainsaw.  And she points her finger at people.  I don't like that either.  Yes, I'm a bit shallow and that's why I must say somebody has got to get up to Alaska and let them know it's 2008 and that hairdo has got to go!!! They picked on Hillary, but Hillary's experience far outweighs Palin's, and yet I don't hear the same kind of criticism of this woman.  What's up with republicans anyway?  No sense of humor?  It's okay to go after democrats but don't go negative on republicans.  Tina Fey did an extraordinary portrayal of Ms. Palin on SNL, and the republicans were highly offended.  The truth hurts.  Just what we need, another four years of being told who to like or dislike. I don't like Sarah Palin, she rubs me the wrong way, and I believe deep in my bones that she would be dangerous for this country.  We need real change, not a side show.  Remember, if McCain gets in and he dies in office, Palin will be running the country.  Ouch! But if there's someone out there who can explain all the crowds and applause around that woman, please try to convince me. Where's B.J. I saw a bumper sticker today that reads:  "If God said it, I believe it.  And that settles that."   How do you know God said it?  Because the Bible told you so?  The Bible was written by men roaming in the desert.  They may or may not have been hallucinating. If I told you that I had a vision and God told me "this" or "that", would you believe me?  Would that settle that?  Not these days, such things like that don't happen anymore.  Unless you're George W. Bush who has run his government according to what God has told him.  And that settles that. The Old Testament was sacrosanct (hope I spelled that right) until Jesus came along and edited it.  "An eye for an eye" became "turn the other cheek."  Do you believe in Jesus?  If God gave Jesus literary license to change His Bible, then that settles that.  This is just food for thought.  I was raised a Christian, and as an adult I have come to terms with the idea that organized religion has too many prohibitions in the real world and asks to take way too much on faith alone.  Don't feel sorry for me and please don't pray for me.  This is just my opinion.  I'm sure if I'm wrong, God will let me know. The Advocate's Daily Puzzle http://community.victoriaadvocate.com/home/Blog/Triangle/8028 http://community.victoriaadvocate.com/home/Blog/Triangle/8028 I subscribe to the Advocate only because my dad likes to read it.  He's not into the whole computer thing.  I visit the Advocate's website often to catch up on local news, but when I want to read the comics I go straight for the hard copy of the newspaper delivered to my door.  As of today, I will no longer attempt to locate the comics.  Every single day the comics are in a different section of the newspaper.  If the Advocate believes that by placing them in different sections we'll read more of the paper, they are wrong.  The comics are the only thing I search for and this morning I just got fed up with trying to locate them after searching three sections.  It's bad  enough that the comics have been sliced in half and placed on two separate pages, now I can't even find them. What's the deal with that anyway? PICK UP THE TRASH! http://community.victoriaadvocate.com/home/Blog/Triangle/7464 http://community.victoriaadvocate.com/home/Blog/Triangle/7464 To the City of Victoria, if you want to keep Victoria beautiful, how about starting by picking up the trash on the days it is scheduled to be picked up?  My area's scheduled pickups are on Tuesday and Friday.  Last Tuesday you did not pick up the trash.  It wasn't picked up until Wednesday afternoon.  We all put our trash out again on Friday and it's all still sitting there.  Been out there all weekend.  We've been adding to it and now you've got twice as much to pick up.  I suppose you'll wait for the scheduled pickup day of Tuesday. How can you think that going to once-a-week pickup will make Victoria beautiful?  Two days a week aren't even enough, especially when you don't pick it up. By the way, if you have changed our scheduled days for pickup, it might be a good idea to let us know! Religion is personal http://community.victoriaadvocate.com/home/Blog/Triangle/7294 http://community.victoriaadvocate.com/home/Blog/Triangle/7294 I'm so tired of listening to the media persecute Barack Obama because of his pastor's preaching methods and/or what his pastor has to say.  In fact, I believe that Rev. Wright is no longer his pastor.  But that's not the point.  Religion is personal.  There was a time people didn't ask each other what religion they were.  I was raised Catholic, but by the time I had reached my mid-30s, that religion was changing and I did not care for the changes at all.  What made me make that decision was when I received envelopes in the mail from my church with the amount of my Sunday contribution written on them.  The sermons were becoming financial reports instead of insightful spiritual lessons.  I didn't appreciate the church actually telling me how much money to give them.  That should be my choice.  I turned away from the Catholic church, and twenty years later I do not call myself a Catholic or a Christian.   I consider myself a person with spiritual values based on what I've read in the Bible, including the old and new testaments.  The Bible offers great advice, and I don't need someone standing in the pulpit to tell me so. But to condemn someone, politician or not, because of what's being said in the church they attend is just wrong.  I just wish the media would drop the whole thing and let Obama campaign as a politician and not as a man who has to defend his former pastor.  Besides, until the media calls out McCain on the endorsement he got from that neo-nazi preacher, John Hegee, who openly condemns other churches, I don't think any of this should matter to voters.  That being said, I'm personally sick of this whole presidential campaign and how the media has twisted it into a puzzle almost impossible to piece together.  Not one of them deserve my vote and I'm not so sure I'll just give it away this time.  They can thank the media for that. Bring in the magicians! http://community.victoriaadvocate.com/home/Blog/Triangle/6730 http://community.victoriaadvocate.com/home/Blog/Triangle/6730 Over the last three days I've received three phone calls on behalf of the Hillary Clinton Campaign.  The first call was a recording that repeated itself over and over, reminding me that early voting has begun and they would like my support.  The second phone call was a recorded message by Hillary herself, again asking for my support.  The third phone call was from a live person who insisted on my support for Hillary.  She began by reminding me, again, that early voting has begun.  I told her I like both democratic candidates.  The tone of her voice was raised and she said that Hillary was the best candidate and they need me to vote for her.  I remained calm and told her there's still time for me to make my decision.  She continued insisting that I make a commitment over the phone to support Hillary.  Once again, I told her I liked them both and thought Obama was just as good a choice as Hillary (just to shut her up).  Her tone of voice turned ugly as she told me, "But Obama is an illusionist."   And I told her that a magician is just what we need right now.  She did her job, I made my decision. These phone calls smell of desperation and that's sad.
