Space shuttle Atlantis undocked from the International Space Station Monday morning, promising to provide sky watchers an interesting view of the two.
The two spacecraft will appear as a tight pair of lights gliding across the night sky Monday and Tuesday.
For the Victoria area, the two will appear in tandem low in the west-southwest sky on Feb. 18 at 7:56 p.m. They'll be about 10 degrees above the horizon and visible for about a minute before disappearing to the southwest.
The pair will be brighter and higher in the sky on Feb. 19.
They will come into view at 6:41 p.m. to the northwest. The space station and shuttle will be about 50 degrees above the southwest horizon at 6:44 p.m.
Let me know what you see.

Mar 20, 2008 at 09:03 AM : I missed it this time...

I missed it this time around but have seen it several times in the past. What is really exciting is the station is getting bigger all the time. As we add more and more modules we will have a better view of the station.

In about three years when the station is "fully build" by the current design standards it should be quit visible and an awesome sight.

I hadn't thought about it getting bigger (and brighter) as they continue to build on it. That's interesting.

Mar 20, 2008 at 01:03 PM : We will continue...

We will continue building it until around 2010, then the shuttle will be retired and our capibility to expand the station will be deminished. At that point it will be about as big as it will get, unless we come up with a new way to attach items to the station.
