Women's Tennis....... - A Pirate Aground In The City - pilot's Blog - Victoria Advocate

I am not much of a tennis player, and really not much on watching it either.......except for the big tournaments. There's just something about watching atheletes at the top of their game.......I even tuned in to the last Tiger Woods sudden death playoff against that unknown......to be honest, I was pulling for the underdog, but that's my nature. To be honest, I wasn't particularly happy to see an all Williams final, but whatever......it was an ok match. Would much rather have been watching Sharapova........don't say it! The one thing I have been wondering about womens' tennis, as obviously I don't watch it a lot, and have missed apparently the start of a new trend. Since when did each ane every shot they make have to be accompanied by a high decibel, orgasmic quality grunt or yell?

I was watching the men's doubles today at the gym. The match I saw was in a constant tiebreaker. As soon as one team gained a point, the other caught up and gained one. Then the other did the same. Finally, the cameras went to commercial and cut to a recap of the Junior women's finals. The English girl who won that was so cute! She told the Williams sisters get ready, cause she's gunna take them down!

didn't see the Junior womens' match you mentioned......will be nice though to see someone take the Williams sisters off their high horses.....especially an English player. Seems once the women attain that elite ranking, so many of them get attitudes(and Canon and cosmetics contracts). Don't know why that is........ I enjoy watching tennis, it's a thinkers game, like baseball where power serves one well, but finessee can overcome the power. Maybe that's just an old guy - raquetballer talking......

I certainly hope I am not regarded as sexist.......though my tendency to take note of a particularly attractive female tennis player probably more belies my age and eye than my true knowledge of the game. Between you and me, I am old enough to remember the Dome shootout between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King, and I will tell you i was pulling for Billie Jean. That alone, should tell you that I am neither sexist nor homophobic. If yoou are good at your sport, and can bring a game to the table that is worthy of broadcast media money, I will be in the crowd watching. If there is anything about it all that is a travesty, it is that the purses for the LPGA, and WTA tourneys, are less funded than the men's game. In the co-ed events, the money is there for anyone to take.......which despite her drop dead looks, is why I pull for Danica in the Indy Car racing league. Yeah, I may be a pig of sorts for accepting my buddy Deb's challenge to racquetball games, initially for the purpose of seeing her in shorts, but bottom line is that we had a few years run of some heated matches, and while I still think Deb is a cutie and a true pal, when in that glass room, she probably had the edge on me. In fact she was the one who taught me the old fart tactic of finessee beats power, if age is to triumph over youth (and beauty). And I do not read you as a feminazi either just a player. Funny time to be discussing this, as I am going through some spinal/sciatic nerve issues at the moment - all the while praying that it is a correctible thing. I have ten and twelve year old sons, some young biking pals and ski buds, a wife who at 46 looks half her age, and a house full of mountain bikes, snow skis, watersports equipment for my boat and two kayaks and canoe. At 57-1/2, I want the pain to cease and the playing to resume.........and girls are welcome in my club.
